Conveyor belt Sushi, Takamatsu, Japan - 3rd November 2013

By: hanachan

fast-food style Sushi restaurant is like this
It's a very simple way to enjoy Sushi. You pick a plate of Sushi from the conveyor belt which is running beside your table.
You can also place special orders with a touch panel. It's also delivered by the conveyor belt.
I tried Ramen Noodle Soup, too. yummy!

Novosibirsk, Russia - 29th January 2014

By: Abdysh

Hellooooo, Jeneille and Eshara!
I'm writing to let you know I've just arrived to Russia!

In the post office I've met another TV, who was Dasha's previous guest - cheerful monkey Arwen from Finland. She was going to travel to Germany. It's a pity we couldn't take a photo together, but we gave a friendly hug and wished good luck to each other!

hanachan, Dasha thanks you for the nice kerchief, postcard and beatiful stamps! She finds it's all awesome :)

Anna Potapovna was really glad to meet me. Now I'm in good hands... paws :)

Novosibirsk, Russia - 2nd February 2014

By: Abdysh

Hello there! Всем привет!
I'm lucky to be here in Siberia at the coldest time of the year. It's -43C degrees outside!

Window view:

Have you ever seen the winter halo? It's the awesome phenomenon of a huge circular rainbow around the sun. In Novosibirsk it happens quite often because of frost.
But the sky is too bright to take a good photo! This one we took through the sunglasses, and still only little part of halo circle is visible.

Hot mushroom soup with sour cream and musturd helps to warm up :)

School 50, Novosibirsk, Russia - 3rd February 2014

By: Abdysh

Hi everybody!

On Saturday I went to school with Dasha. She's studying in ordinary state school "№50" in the 11th (the highest) grade.

It starts at 8 AM. Putting books in the bag...

A lot of people tie the scarf like this to protect their lips and nasal from frost. I'm in the mitten!

I've tried to take some photos outside, but the camera just doesn't work in such weather :(

The first lesson is Physics. I helped to assemble the circuit.

Yehuuu, it works! We got '5', which is the highest mark in Russian schools. :)

I made friends with Dasha's classmates. They are all a bit crazy, but nice and funny :)

Next lesson is History of Siberia. See the building in the black-and-white picture? It's the large theatre, the main attraction in NSK. Dasha has promised me that we will see it in person.

At 11.30 AM it's lunch time! The students seldom bring lunches with them 'cos the food in canteen is veeery tasty in this school! They get it free for food stamps.
Today we have borsch, sauerkraut, a bun with cervelat and sweet tea.

Now it's Literature. I've learned some about Russian poet Sergey Esenin and enjoyed his poems which have been spouted by students.

Reading the Wikipedia article, we suddenly discovered that Esenin and Isadora Duncan (above) look like Dasha's grandparents (under). Their faces are really similar! :D

Usually school finishes at 3 PM, but on Saturday it's two hours earlier. Lazy weekends started... I'd like to go for a walk, but it's better to wait for a warmer weather, at least -30C. :)

Much warm greetings!

Novosibirsk, Russia - 5th February 2014

By: Abdysh

Studying again. English classroom and student's projects about sport.

One of Dasha's mates Seryozha has his 18th birthday today. This means he has become an adult. Russians have a funny custom to pull birthday kid's ears as many times as many years old is he or she, to 'help him grow up'. So we pulled Seryozha's ears 18 times. :D

It's still very cold and the only way to take a photo outside is...

...from the window :)

While we can't walk, in free time my host shows me different interesting things. For example, today we viewed an old stamps collection which has been being collected by three generations. I added new colorful USSR stamp with a picture of Gena and Cheburashka.

Also I'm helping with History homework...

...and drinking hot cocoa.

Love you!

Novosibirsk, Russia - 7th February 2014

By: Abdysh

Hi everyone! Did you watch the Olympics opening?
I really liked it :) Especially the long show about Russian history and the ballet.

It's a pity that my native country, Trinidad and Tobago, doesn't participate :( So I'll be rooting for my host country.

Good luck to athletes!

Orthodox Cathedral, Novosibirsk, Russia - 8th February 2014

By: Abdysh

The frosts are gone! Now it's -20C and we finally can walk and take photos :)

This is the beautiful cathedral near my hosthouse.

Don't you think the birches perfectly match to my skin? :D

Banya, Novosibirsk, Russia - 10th February 2014

By: Abdysh

Today I relaxed in national way - in hot bath called 'banya' (баня .). Russians often go to banya on weekends: not for washing, but to spend time with friends and family or celebrate something. We had a birthday party there.

My host got a lot of presents and postcards.

It's very hot and dark in the steam-room. What a pity you can't feel the smell of a birch broom and pine oil from the photo!

Near steam-room there is a font with icy water. When you dive there immediately after steaming, this feeling is undescribable!

Yugo-Zapadniy, Novosibirsk, Russia - 15th February 2014

By: Abdysh

My host promised me to go for a walk with me and show some sights of Novosibirsk a long time ago, but she is still too busy, grr! >< I could walk alone, but who would take photos with me then?.. and... the city is very big and I'm afraid to get lost. So I'm waiting and go to school with Dasha everyday.
There is some pictures of the way to school.

Funny graffities in the stairwell.

The yard of my hosthouse.

Nice waxwings on the rowan.

And finally, the school :)
