Eisenach, Wartburg Castle, Germany - 2nd June 2012

By: iloveletters

Hello mommy!

Today I visited one of the landmarks in Thuringia: Wartburg Castle.
We went there because my host took part in a choir concert in the castle palace.

Since 1999 Wartburg Castle has been an UNESCO world heritage site.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020244.jpg

But before I show you some pics of the castle here is the view of
Eisenach city on our way up.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020250.jpg

And here I am, in front of Wartburg castle.
It was founded in the 11th century, so it is pretty old.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020249.jpg

When we entered the castle grounds we saw a poster for the concert.
There were many people with colorful T-Shirts, the singers.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020260.jpg

The concert took place in the Palace, a romanesque site.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020263.jpg

The chairs are still empty but in an hour over 200 visitors will listen
to the concert - me too!

Mechterstädt, kitchen, Germany - 5th June 2012

By: iloveletters

I tried something special for dinner today
- a recipe from a South African cook book: Peanut soup with
coconut.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020340.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020307.jpg

Here are all the ingredients I need to cook it.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020305.jpg

First I need to chop the carrots and leek and  dice the onion.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020308.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020312.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020323.jpg

Everything goes into the pot.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020317.jpg

Next it's 75ml of dry white wine.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020320.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020328.jpg

Now it already looks like a soup. I have to add the peanuts and the coconut though.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020331.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020336.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020334.jpg

After some more time for simmering the soup is ready. Yummy!

Enjoy the meal!

Mechterstädt, Germany - 6th June 2012

By: iloveletters

Even though I have been in Mechterstädt for quite a while I have not had time to see the village.
Today I took a little tour - a very little tour since there is not much to see and it was raining.
Only 1000 people live here.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020348.jpg

There are 2 restaurants:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020347.jpg

and a fire station:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020350.jpg

There even is a small supermarket.

Frankfurt Main, Germany - 9th June 2012

By: iloveletters

This weekend we went to Frankfurt/Main for the German Choir Festival.

But first we got ready for our trip and packed our bag.
Or rather we were packed into the bag :)

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020358.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020359.jpg

It was a 3 hours coach ride but time went fast and we also had
enough to eat because we brought a 'SingerSurvivalPackedLunch'.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020367.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020361.jpg

We did not see much of Frankfurt except the 'Jahrhunderthalle'
where my host and the choir had rehearsals and where the big
concert on Saturday evening took place.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020372.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020375.jpg

The concert hall was built in 1963 and is pretty large with space for up to 4800 people.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020379.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020389.jpg

We spent almost all our time there except for one concert. Then we went to the Heiliggeist Church.

Mechterstädt, Germany - 10th June 2012

By: iloveletters

I visited a little summer party in Mechterstädt at the 'Bodelschwingh Hof' , a center for disabled people. I listened to the music on the stage and had a look in the garden center. The cucumbers are growing!

We went to the Victuals Market (Viktualienmarkt) to do our shopping for the week-end. The Victuals Market is right in the city center, you can buy all kind of food and other stuff like flowers there.

Suddenly I felt like being in a different country - I had entered the "Marrakesch" tent. It was little bit like in a bazar .....

München, Germany - 6th July 2012

By: Pandamao

I did some sight-seeing today and passed the Odeonsplatz. My host was astonished - the Odeonsplatz was closed to the publlic. When we passed we saw an orchestra playing - it semed to be the big rehearsal for the concerts of "Klassik am Odeonsplatz" that will take place tomorrow and on Sunday, too.

Besides the concerts I enjoyed looking at the Bavarian King's residence and the Theatiner Church. I rubbed some lions' noses that were sitting in front of the residence - I was told that it should bring luck to rub the noses.
