Hamburg, Germany - 19th February 2012

By: ScillyHH

Hi mum,
today LewisHH and I explored the Hamburg airport. We sat on the viewing terrace and watched the planes.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01992.jpg

Here you can see me on the viewing terrace.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01976.jpg

To have a better view we used the big binocular.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01973.jpg

In the big airport hall there are a lot of travel agencies. Look at me checking out the places and prices. Where shall I fly to???
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01980.jpg

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01979.jpg

Then we took a look at the check-in gates. First Air Berlin, then Lufthansa.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01966.jpg

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01995.jpg

See me in front of the departure boards. So many flights to so many places.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01985.jpg

Being at the airport made me want to fly. I tried to check in at the self service machine. But there was no reservation for me :( But it was worth a try
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02000.jpg

Then we saw this lovely car at the car hire company. But they said I was to small to drive. :( Sometimes it is hard to be a small TV like me.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02002.jpg

But back at home we got a surprise! Clairchen wrote us a postcard from the isle of Amrum. See us reading the postcard.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02005.jpg

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02006.jpg

I'm sure that I will board a plane some day.

All the very best

Hi mum,

See me in front of the museum.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02056.jpg

Inside we saw,how the chocolate is being made.
Look at my friend Lewis and me sitting on a sack of cocoa beans.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02021.jpg

On this scale the cocoa beans are weighed.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02025.jpg

Here you an see some cocoa beans from Ghana. But they have a lot of different beans in the Chocoversum.

This is a small roaster for the cocoa beans.

After roasting the beans will be broken in to small pieces.

This is a rolling machine to produce a paste from the cocoa pieces.

Oh look, this machine conche the chocolate. The result is very delicous  :D

Here you can see the ingredients of the chocolate: cocoa beans, sugar and cocoa butter.
This is milk chocolate with so much sugar  :cyclops::

This is dark chocolate:

On this map you can see which countries produce cocoa.

Look at me sitting in a cocoa fruit.

These are the finished products.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02040.jpg

Here you can see some historic chocolate bars.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02055.jpg

On our way home we pasted by the Chile house, a historic office building which has the form of an ocean liner.

Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany - 3rd March 2012

By: HoBi

Hello Mum,

I arrived safely in Lower Saxony. Orpheus and Murph helped me out of my envelope and gave me a friendly welcome.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1404.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1405.jpg

The two guys showed me Bad Salzdetfurth. It is the hometown of Murph. Here you can see the emblem of the town.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1389.jpg

Then we went into the spa gardens. There exists a ‘Summstein’. If you sit in it and you are bumbling, your body prickles.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1381.jpg

Next to the Summstein there was a house for doves.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1383.jpg

There are 2 big salines here. People used it in the past to produce salt.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1387.jpg

Soon the spa gardens will be colorful – with many flowers. Unfortunately there weren’t many today.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1384.jpg

Bad Salzdetfurth has a lot of frame houses.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1388.jpg

There are many old machines from the mining time.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1390.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1391.jpg

A big pit wheel.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1397.jpg

On this sign you can read how they got the salt out of the ground.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1399.jpg

The last place was the trainstation of Bad Salzdeetfurth. I have no idea why it is called Kulturbahnhof.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1400.jpg

Bad Salzdetfurth is a beautiful small town, but there are not many interesting architectural buildings in it. Murph told me that there are two really interesting buildings in Hildesheim. Maybe we will go there.

Many greetings
Bärndt

Winzenburg, Germany - 10th March 2012

By: HoBi

Hi Mum,

Today we went into the forest and searched bear’s garlic.

On our way we saw the holy spring. The water here should help against illnesses.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1352.jpg

People found 5000 years old sacrificial offerings next to the „ Appenteichquellen“. Today people sacrifice things on the small altar next to the springs.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1356.jpg

Don’t worry, Mum! I wasn’t sacrificed.

Here you can see another photo of the spring.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1357.jpg

Next to it, there were many old trees in the forest.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1361.jpg

On our way to the ear’s garlic we found these beautiful flowers. They were spring snowflakes.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1364.jpg

The bear’s garlic was too small for collecting. Maybe I can try it? With this name it should be yummy for me as a bear.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1369.jpg

Then we climbed up a mountain. This is the ruin of the Winzenburg.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1380.jpg

In the Past donkeys carried water from the spring to the top of the mountain, because the people in the Castle needed it. The poor donkeys – the way was really steep.

many greetings
Bärndt

Sottrum, Germany - 17th March 2012

By: HoBi

Hi Mum,

today we drove to Derneburg to see the Laves-Path of Culture. On our way to Derneburg we saw an old wind wheel.  It belonged to a mill in the Past.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1406.jpg

Then Orpheus and Murph showed me this beautiful gate. It is the entrance to a Park. We had to stop and make photos.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1412.jpg

There was a funny guy in front of the Gate. He looked alive  - didn’t he?

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1413.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1414.jpg

This is the postbox of the Park.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1420.jpg

There were many funny characters on the Gate. I had problems to decide which I loved most. Then I chose the seahorse.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1417.jpg

This shark wasn’t too scary!

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1419.jpg

Then we continued our trip to Derneburg. I will write more soon.

Many greetings
Bärndt

Derneburg, Germany - 17th March 2012

By: HoBi

Hello Mum,

And here are the promised photos of Derneburg. The Laves-Pfad is a walking trail. You can see a lot of interesting architectural buildings of the architect G.L.F. Laves from Hannover.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1439.jpg

This is theCastle of Derneburg from one side – I will show it to you from the other side, too. It is really gigantic.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1425.jpg

This bridge had a special construction – it is called „Fischbauchträger“.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1426.jpg

I found  a new spring flower for you - the commun butterbur.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1431.jpg

Soon there will be a lot of rare birds at this lake.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1432.jpg

Look –this house stood in the water!

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1433.jpg

There were many fishermen houses next to the lakes.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1436.jpg

And now – there was a pyramid in the middle of lower Saxony. It is a mausoleum. The first owner of the Castle is buried there with his family.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1441.jpg

This temple was used as a tea house in the Past.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1444.jpg

Now you can see the Castle again – but from another view.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1446.jpg

On our way back we saw this wonderful Castle. It was the Castle Söder. We were not allowed to go near to it. It is in private hands.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1449.jpg

What a wonderful trip!

Many greetings
Bärndt

Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany - 18th March 2012

By: HoBi

Hello Mum,

Today it was the last day with of Orpheus here. In the morning we went into the forest and searched mushrooms and flowers.

The spring is coming! There were many blooming flowers in the forest. These small flowers didn’t bloom last week – they are kidneyworts.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1499.jpg

Daphne mezereum is a wonderful shrub, but very poisonous.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1504.jpg

These mushrooms are eatable. I didn’t find the English names – but the Latin name is Gyromitra ancilis.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1519.jpg

You know the next flower, I think. It helps with cough: it is a Coltsfoot.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1513.jpg

These small mushrooms grow on the cones of the spruce. So their name is sprucecone caps and they are eatable, too.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1524.jpg

The last thing that Murph showed me was the early purple orchis. Unfortunately it didn’t bloom now.
Unfortunately I won’t be here when it starts blooming.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1491.jpg

At home we had a look at the adventures of Orpheus and Murph.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1463.jpg

In the evening we had a farewell-party for Orpheus.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1475.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1480.jpg

But then it was time to say goodbye to Orpheus and he climbed into his envelope.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1482.jpg

I hope that Orpheus will have a great time with his next host!

Love
Bärndt

Lamspringe, Germany - 25th March 2012

By: HoBi

Hallo Mum,

Today I went to the park of the monastery Lamspringe. The monastery is really big.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1545.jpg

The Lammequelle started her life here in the park. The Lamme flows through Bad Salzdetfurth.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1529.jpg

There are two big lakes in the park.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1533.jpg

I found a very rare flower here  – the yellow star of Bethlehem.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1535.jpg

This was the other lake. Behind me you can see a part of the monastery.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1536.jpg

There was an old mill in the park with a water wheel. They repair the wheel at the moment – so it didn’t move.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1540.jpg

I found something interesting – in the past criminals got rings like this around their necks. Then they were in the pillory.

We found this funny statue next to the abbey. The man carried his head in his hands.

It is a wonderful abbey with a wonderful garden!

Irmenseul, Germany - 1st April 2012

Hello Mum,

It was my last day in lower saxony – and we went into the forest and searched bear’s garlic.

Many flowers were blooming. I saw many wood anemones.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1618.jpg

I really loved these cowslips.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1607.jpg

The whole forest was full of bear’s garlic.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1610.jpg

We started to pick the bear’s garlic. I was too small for the knife, but Murph helped me.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1612.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1615.jpg

Ui, it stunk!

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1616.jpg

Look – I found yellow wood anemones.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1624.jpg

The next flowers smelt wonderful. They were  sweet violets.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1625.jpg

Maybe you know this plant. In Germany people often use the baby’s breath for punch.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1620.jpg

I enjoyed the sunshine between the blossoms of the  hawthorn.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1630.jpg

Then it was time to say good-bye to Murph.

I had a wonderful time here in lower saxony. But not I am looking forward to my adventures in Hessen.

Many greetings
Bärndt
