Merry Christmas!

Today I will start to run my travelog because I want to travel through Germany in 2012!
Thanks to fam-united and RikeH that you make this possible!

But now to me first. I'm Bärndt and I live with my mom for a long time and have spent every Christmas with the complete family. There were quite a lot of presents and I looked for a place on the Christmas tree for the mess, but that wasn't very comfortable.
My best friend is called "Gurke" (cucumber, the lemming) and I unfortunately can't take him on my trip while we spend so much time together. I'll miss you Gurke 

But now I want to travel!

After it was celebrated extensively in the new year I was hiking with my mum in the "Ruppertsklamm"...
It was fun. It was not to cold but it has shortly rained and the sky was cloudy.
In the background is Castle Lahneck left, center is Castle Stolzenfels and right the monastery at Allerheiligenberg. You can see the river Lahn and the three mountains Taunus (left), Westerwald (right) and Hunsrück (rear center).

Today I helped to tinkering a little house for my mom. And in a scale of 1:100 or 1:200 (second one is made 12th october '11 but it's my favorit)  I'm looking gigantic! 

But now I'm looking forward to my first host!

Hello Mum,

Yesterday I arrived in Sülfeld. I met Dicker Kumpel -  he is my host here.



He introduced me to the other TVs here – wow, there were many, but Dicker Kumpel told me, that most of them will leave soon.



I saw the Christmas Tree – and decided to play in it.







I love the Christmas Time!



Then I decided to walk around Sülfeld. Look – here is the longest nature trail for fruits in Europe.



This is the old school.



The mayor works here.  And you can see the emblem of Sülfeld.



I liked this old door.



Behind me you can see the church. Sadly It was closed, because we wanted to visit it.



On the other side of the street is the pharmacy.



There is a way with many churches around Sülfeld – you can do it with the bike, but RikeH told me, that it was too cold for such a trip now.

Hello Mum,

It was a  nice day today – and I wanted to play in the garden.
First I met this funny guy. He likes to feed birds.



The birds have this house, too. Here they find yummy food.
 


Look – Mum – although we have winter, I found some flowers in the garden.







It is cold in Sülfeld now – I sat on the ice on this well.



Before I went into the house again – I made a adventurous  ride on this friendly bird.

Hello Mum,

Yesterday I played in the garden – but today I wanted to make a walk.

Can you see the little lake? Normally there is no lake, but it was very rainy during the last days.



We had lovely sunny weather again.



But it is winter – so the trees were not green.



Can you remember the nature trail I saw last week – this is another part of it.



I loved the clouds in the sky.

Hello Mum,

The weather is awful! So I decided to learn something about Schleswig-Holstein. We found some facts in the web.

Schleswig-Holstein is the northernmost of the sixteen states of Germany, comprising most of the historical duchy of Holstein and the southern part of the former Duchy of Schleswig.

Its capital city is Kiel; other notable cities are Lübeck, Flensburg and Neumünster. The former English name was Sleswick-Holsatia – this sounds funny to all of us here.



On the map you can see that it is really in the North of Germany. Schleswig-Holstein has a population of 2834259 people – no information about the number of ToyVoyagers living here. The are has a total of 15,763.18 square kilometres .



This is the coat of arms.  The coat of arms shows the symbols of the two duchies united in Schleswig-Holstein, i.e., the two lions for Schleswig and the leaf of a nettle for Holstein.

Supposedly, Otto von Bismarck decreed that the two lions were to face the nettle because of the discomfort to their bottoms which would have resulted if the lions faced away from it.



This is the flag. The blue is for the Schleswig-Part – the red and white for the Holstein-Part.



On the last photo you can see a map of Schleswig-Holstein. I live in Kreis Segeberg at the moment.

It is situated under the light of the flash that you can see on the photo.



Well – it was really interesting to learn so much about Schleswig-Holstein.

Hello Mum,

another sunny day in Sülfeld. We made another walk - and RikeH promised a nice surprise at the end of the walk.

First I studied this map. Today I wore a cap, because it was very cold.





I loved this place - I sat in the sun and had a nice view.



We crossed a little river.





You can see the river behind me now.



A wonderful tree.



I had another rest in the sun.





Then we found the big surprise. Up to now you don't know, what it is.



LOOK! All little boys love tractors!

Hello Mum,

We had snow outside, so we decided to leave our chair and made a walk around Sülfeld.

You already saw most of the buildings – but not in the wintertime.

Look – there was snow  - it looked like winter!



We are in the North of Germany and there are not many big hills here. So the children use this small mountain with their sledges.



Behind me you can see the old school. It looks nice in the snow.



The clock of the church was broken – we haven’t been there at 6 o’ clock.



Mum, I know that I have my life-mission: See the most interesting architectural buildings I can find in the city of my host. To tell the truth – I saw the buildings – the old school, the church and at the beginning of my visit here - the pharmacy. Dicker Kumpel and RikeH are sorry, but there are not more interesting architectural buildings here in Sülfeld.

Back home in the garden we wanted to do something nice in the snow. We talked a lot.



And here you can see what we created.



Then we went inside the house – and found a great place!

Hi Mum,

today was my last day in Sülfeld. I decided to play on the playground.
First I did some horseback-riding.



Then I talked with this croco.



I relaxed in the sun...



...before I used...



the slide.



Then I had fun on the swing.



I wanted to send you some flowers, but RikeH said that photos are enough. 





Then it was time to say goodbye to Dicker Kumpel. We had a lot of fun together.



Then all the others gave me a big hug!



Tomorrow RikeH will bring me to ScillyHH. I don't have to travel in an envelope - lucky me!

Hi mum,

today I arrived in Hamburg.
At home Scilly introduced me to my hosts LewisHH and Clairchen.



Look at this photo! Two bears - two sizes 


I took a look around my hosts home and found this lovely colorful woolen flowers - funny!


I even found this boat. I just had to try it out.




We are expecting sunshine and ice the next few days. So I am looking forward to taking some good photos. I think I will have a good time in Hamburg.

Hi mum,

Today we visited Hamburg harbour. We had sunshine and the the river Elbe was full of ice.
See me on Wilhelm-bridge (Speicherstadt Hamburg).


This is an old custom house in the Speicherstadt.


See me in front of the Elbphilarmonie which is currently beeing built. It is going to be a concert hall.


This is an old lighthouse ship which is now used as a café.


This is the view of the river Elbe carrying lots of ice.




We took a ride on a harbour ferry.


On our way we saw this Mississippi steamer and the old freid ship Cap San Diego.






See this wonderful view of the harbour.


After our boat trip I was asked if I wanted to see the old Elbtunnel.
I said "Yes of course" and here are the pictures.

The Elbtunnel was build more than hundred years ago for pedestrian, cyclists and cars and connects the harbour and the city of Hamburg.


You can go down by stairs... or use the elevator.


Here you can see the road in the tunnel.


This sign explains the unevenness of the Tunnel.


Cars have to go up and down by lift. Look at me taking charge of the car lift

Hi mum,

today we got a foretaste for the next weekend.
The lake Außenalster in middle of town is frozen. And there will be a great festival, the “Alstereisvergnügen” the whole weekend with thousands of people and also some ToyVoyagers.
So Scilly showed us a small lake near her home with some people which were ice-skating or playing hockey. Perhaps I can learn ice-skating?






I’m looking forward for the weekend.

Hi mum,

as promised Scilly, Richy and LewisHH took me to the frozen Alsterlake this weekend. In German they call it "Alstereisvergnügen". 500,000 people, a lot of dogs and two TV's were on the ice today. The last time they had this big party on the lake was 15 years ago. How lucky to be here at the right time

Then I sat down and tested the ice.




My hosts had a sledge for me and it was great fun to ride over the ice. See me having fun.






Then I got a little bit cold. So it was very nice to sit on the glove and see all the people.


On the way home I took this last picture from the Kennedy bridge. So many people - it's amazing!

Hi mum,

today we had some sunshine. So we take a short walk around the town centre.

Look at me in front of the Binnenalster, which is still frozen over. In the background you can see some of the white Alster boats.






Here you can see the Alsterarkaden and an Alster canal in the background. The Alsterarkaden is a small way with some shops and cafés along a Alster canal.


Look, this is the town hall of Hamburg. It`s nearly a palace, isn't it?






Then Scilly and Lewis showed me the entrance hall of the town hall.

On our way home we found this old golden letter box.
