Kissidougou, Guinea - 14th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
I love to climb trees !
Today, I climbed the flame tree in front of my house.
It was easy to climb up, but very difficult to climb down. In the end, I jumped in my mentor's arms.

Kissidougou, Guinea - 15th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
I forgot to introduce myself : I live in Kissidougou with my mentor poissonrouge and the cat Fansidar.
My house used to be a school, but it is only a house now.
Look at the photo : yes, there is a closet outside... A friend of poissonrouge moved, and she could not take this closet with her. So she let it here, and one day it will be given to someone else. It can stay outside, because it will not rain for the next four months. And the objects inside are things poissonrouge does not want any more. She is waiting that someone says "Oh, why is this outside ? If I had one, I would put it inside !" And this person will receive the object.

I just helped poissonrouge to change the wick of her petrol fridge.
Yes, a petrol fridge ! Even if it is quite a big town, there is no electricity in Kissidougou. Poissonrouge has a solar panel, but it is enough for a computer, not for a fridge !
You need all these things to change a wick, plus a lot of patience.
Now, I smell like petrol

By: poissonrouge
Today, I went to work with poissonrouge, on her motorbike !
On Tuesday, she teaches french to adults. She made a vocabulary test today. I did not know any of the words she asked...
You can see the photo of the school house. Yes, it is a church ! There are no tables, but there is a blackboard inside, and many benches.

This morning, I helped poissonrouge wash the solar panels. During dry season, they have to be washed once a week, because although it is the season of sun, it is the season of dust, sand and ashes too. One of the two solar panels does not work any more, but poissonrouge says it will be replaced next month.

Now is the time for oranges !
In Guinea, oranges are not orange, they are green, or sometimes yellow.
Thoses oranges are ready to welcome new toy voyagers : Roary and Das Schweinchen. They should arrive here in a few hours. I can't wait to meet them !

I am not the only toy voyager any more here ! Roary and Das Schweinchen arrived yesterday, with Simba, who is not a toy voyager, but surely a great voyager anyway.
First thing in the morning : we swallowed our anti-malaria pills.
Then, we went for a walk in the bush. It was a nice day.

Today, we did a big walk. It went up and up and up and up. Finally, we discovered the town of Yendč from above. A very nice view.

Here is a pit, where you can find water for drinking (better boil it before), taking a shower, washing your clothes or your house, water the plants...

Banama, Guinea - 23rd December 2011
By: poissonrouge
Today, a very good car was needed, to go deep in the bush. There, we saw a wonderful waterfall. I did not fall in the water, but I tasted it : it was quite cold. There is a lot of water everywhere in Guinea.

I helped build a little door for the cat Fansidar. Fansidar learnt quick how to enter, but still has problems finding the way out.
Then, I cooked something in the solar oven.

Kissidougou, Guinea - 25th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
Happy Christmas !
Today, we first noticed that there was tap water ! A good thing on a celebration day.
Then, we received new clothes, like everyone for Christmas.
After that, someone told us that there was diesel oil in town. We hurried, but we were too late : the truck just before us received the last drops.
So we went to church (late...). There was a lot of singing, and then the pastor spoke about the birth of Jesus, and then we ate a lot of rice all together : that is 747 people.
Next week, I will probably not be online : we are travelling in an area without Internet. So have a happy new year !

We did not make it... the car had a breakdown after a few kilometers, and we had to head back home. It is repaired now, and we will try again tomorrow.

N'Zao, Guinea - 28th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
In the morning, we visited a hospital. I especially liked the place where protesis are made.
Then, we drove to N'Zao : another hospital, and a nice place to stay for a holiday. And very practical, because tomorrow, we are going south, to... you'll see !
