Iquique, Chile - 8th February 2014

By: Leslie

Hello all!

After waiting for a whole night at the airport we took our flight to the city of Iquique in the desert by the sea. After spending a few hours walking around we took a bus to the north... to Peru! :D The highway goes through the Atacama desert.

See you all!

Arequipa, Peru - 13th February 2014

By: Leslie

We are in Arequipa, Peru!

Fun fact: The very same day we crossed the border was the day that an international court decided whether Chile or Peru would win in a sea territory dispute. So that day was a pretty tense day internationally speaking and very little people crossed the border, except for us, of course. Actually we were the first chileans to cross to Peru that morning! We were even interviewed in the newspaper :D Many people back in Chile were calling us "crazy" for daring to go to Peru on that day... Of course in the end nothing happened to us, everybody we have met on our trip has been friendly and helpful :) Traveling is the best way to discover that people (and plushies) are all siblings and no nationalism or racism should ever change that!

Pato has spoken!

And well, now photos.

Arequipa, Peru - 14th February 2014

By: Leslie

Today we visited the old Santa Catalina monastery. Cloistered nuns would spend their entire lives here in the past, and some young women were sent by their parents who wished to keep them protected from the sin of the world. What a life that must have been

Lake Titicaca, Puno, Peru - 15th February 2014

By: Leslie

We are in Puno, a town by the shore of Lake Titicaca. From here we took a tour to the floating islands of the Uros, an indigenous people of Peru. They live in reed houses on artificial floating islands in the lake.

The way the build the islands is by first making the base with reed root cubes and anchoring them to the bottom of the lake, and then covering the whole thing with 1m of reed. They have to replace everything every 6 months because it rots. :o

We ended our stay in Puno in the Chucuito Fertility Temple. A place full of stone penises. Well...
