Mechterstädt, Germany - 29th February 2012

By: iloveletters

It is time to say goodbye to Thuringia.
So I crawled into my box.
I was told my next stop is Bavaria. I am looking forward to it!

CU mommy and daddy!

München, Germany - 1st March 2012

By: Pandamao

I have arrived in München, Bavaria. Well, my transport box did not survived the journey with the German post. It was flattened and the sides broken, so I guess I have to look for a new one. but luckily, no broken ribs or bones, I'm alive and kicking, and looking forward visiting Bavaria  :D

My host told me that every morning I have to take a walk along the Isar river with the dog. Here I show you how it looks like.

Starnberg, Germany - 3rd March 2012

By: Pandamao

I am lucky - just during my first few days my host is doing a little hike close to Starnberg. The sun was out and I enjoyed a sun-bath at the Starnberger See (lake of Starnberg). The photo does not show the beautiful sunshine we had.

Waldschmidtschlucht, Germany - 3rd March 2012

By: Pandamao

From Starnberg we started to hike out of the city towards the Waldschmidtschlucht. In the sun it was very warm, but inside the valley we met areas where there still was snow.

Pullach, Germany - 16th March 2012

By: Pandamao

Today we took the S-Bahn down South to Pullach. Pullach is a small city along the Isar. We took a path down to the Isar river and started walking back towards Munich. There a paths all along the river and you can hike for hours along the river in the green. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine  B)

München, Germany - 17th March 2012

By: Pandamao

Took a look at the German Museum today. It is just 5 minutes walking distance from my hosts apartment.

The Deutsches Museum possesses over 100 000 objects from the fields of science and technology. The large number of valuable original exhibits makes the Deutsches Museum one of the most important museums of science and technology anywhere in the world. The collections are not restricted to any specialized range of topics: they include objects from mining to atomic physics, from the Altamira cave to a magnified model of a human cell. They extend from the Stone Age to the present time. Collecting historically significant objects is still one of the Museum’s central tasks, so that the stock is constantly growing.

About a quarter of the objects are on exhibition – in the main museum on the island in the river, at the transport museum on the Theresienhöhe, in the hangar at Schleißheim airfield, and in the Deutsches Museum Bonn. These illustrate important developments in science and technology, right down to current research.

Among the particular highlights (besides many others!) are the first motorized aircraft built by the Wright brothers, the U1 submarine, the first program-controlled computer (Conrad Zuse’s Z3), and Diesel’s original engine on the island; the first motorcar by Karl Benz in the transport museum; the Douglas DC3 at Schleißheim; and the first Fischer wall plug in Bonn.

After the German Museum I continued the walk with the dog in the park besides the Isar. Few days ago there were some crocus out but today - the lawn has turned into a crocus carpet - amazing  :D

München, Germany - 19th March 2012

I helped my host with the shopping. We went to the Victuals market, it is one of the old market places in the city and right next to the city center (Marienplatz). there are lots of stands with food, flowers and others. There are several fountains all over the market and in the middle you can sit in a beer garden.

Had a "mass" of beer (one litre) in the Hofbräuhaus. It is a huge beerhall and a must for tourists to visit.

After my drink I walked around the place - Orlando house and Platzlgassn - small alleyways in between the houses. I nearly overlooked them.

We went out to the country-side, to a small village called Papferding. It is not special but was nice for a walk in the woods.
