Borodino, Moscow region, Russia - 16th September 2010
By: owedder
As i promised yesterday, here are some photos from Borodino.
Quote: | The Battle of Borodino, fought on September 7, 1812, was the largest and bloodiest single-day action of the French invasion of Russia, involving more than 250,000 troops and resulting in at least 70,000 casualties. The French Grande Armée under Emperor Napoleon I attacked the Imperial Russian Army of General Mikhail Kutuzov near the village of Borodino, west of the town of Mozhaysk, and eventually captured the main positions on the battlefield, but failed to destroy the Russian army. About a third of Napoleon's soldiers were killed or wounded; Russian losses, while heavier, could be replaced due to Russia's large population, since Napoleon's campaign took place on Russian soil. |
There was a true September weather, we walked a lot and took a lot of photos. The territory of this let say culture preserve is very vast and on that day there were not a soul. But all two souvenir stores were open and that was all we need. Also this place is famous with many obelisks that had been erected on different important places of that battle. Enjoy my pics!
oh, sorry lady! i was wrong when said that there was not a living soul on a whole field! of course, you and your moo-friends pastured there in abundance! peace!
We jumped again in our car and drove hard back to Moscow. We hurried to the club where one cool Byelorussian band had been acting... to be continued
With love,
Pyatno

Gogol club, Moscow, Russia - 16th September 2010
By: owedder
After a long long day we arrived to the Gogol club. We were a little bit late and the Byelorussian band Gurzuf had been already acting. The club security was very kind and let us enter the club without tickets.
Gurzuf is a band of two musicians: accordionist Egor Zabelov and drummer Artyom Zalessky. They play very unusual instrumental music. We love them very much!
So we took a lemonade which was very tasty and bucked us up (thank to vitamin C and little bubbles)
Yay!!! The concert was good, and when our glasses were empty i put a club's promo bracelet on the head and took some photos, shouting: ''ROOOOCK!!! ENCORE ENCORE!!!'' But my mentor calmed me down and drove me home.
It was very eventful day!
Yours,
Pyatno

club 16 tons, Moscow, Russia - 22nd September 2010
By: owedder
Hello again! Today i was in '16 Tons' club. As you could know '16 Tons' is a song about the life of a coal miner, first recorded in 1946 by American country singer Merle Travis. But the most popular is a 1955 version recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford. All concerts in this club begin with this song. So today there was a concert of our best musical friends - SBP4 band ( the abbreviation for russian "the largest known prime number" ). They are band of three musicians: Kirill Ivanov (vocal, xylophone), Sasha Zaitsev (guitar, keyboard) and Ilya Baramia (bass). Today they played with a guest drummer. I really don't know how to describe their music, so you could check their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/sbp4
Before the concert i was sitting in the bar and took some pics
my mentor doestn't allow me to drink alcohol, sorry guys, paper bottles only
guys rock! yes, i know, too dark for photos, but here i am
photo with a star. me and Kirill Ivanov
Well, as usual after the show we had a chat with guys, they invited me and my mentor Olya to Saint Petersburg to have some fun. And then we drove home. Sorry for the bad pictures, i'll improve in the next post!
Keep in touch!

bookstore, Moscow, Russia - 26th September 2010
By: owedder
Hey guys! It was very nice September day, and my mentor Olya decided to look for some book stuff. You know, she's a kind of bookworm, very sweet and pretty bookworm. She was looking for a present for her Finnish penpal, he learnt russian language for some years is university of Kouvola.. And Olya made up her mind to surprise him with a russian book. Errrr... very special present from the bookworm, isn't it? Okay, so we drove to the central bookstore
a bait for postcrossers
well, well, well... where is my fave cooking magazine..?
me and books be Leonid Parfyonov
(very popular russian news anchor, journalist and an author of some TV shows)
trendy stuff, no comment
the real pleasure for my mentor's eyes
I need to say that after several hours of choosing, re-choosing and re-re-re-choosing we found the perfect book for our foreign friend. We didn't take a photo of it, because it is a secret.
Of course we got hungry.. but i'll tell you about it in the next post.
Yours,
Pyatno

Ikra club, Moscow, Russia - 30th September 2010
By: owedder
My dear friends! I'm very sorry for the delay, but i have some news for you. The first one is the Festival of Finnish Music 'News from Helsinki', which took place in Ikra club. Every year different record labels and its promoters from Finland bring little known bands to Moscow. It isn't such a big compaign like a 'year of France in Russia', it is ussually only two days of Finland in Moscow, but for music addicts it is a really big event. As for my mentor likes music and all this stuf .. err, btw, i need to say that the preceding party was of no small importance of our coming to this gig ... sh! don't tell my mentor about it (it was a sort of secret, you know). Nevermind! Catch my photos!
here is The Capital Beat - they play something like jazz, ska and reggae - very cool and full of energy guys!
here is me and Aatu. you may saw his funny hat on previous pic. he is a saxophonist and a very good dancer. we were chatting and i gave him my pin. hope it will bring him luck or at least will arrive to Finland
here i am on the main stage after the event. yeah, it is too cool to be truth! don't think that i'm that one who has a finger in every pie, but i really enjoy to be in a heart of what is going on
*Real Music is a russian web site where young musicians upload their songs and other music stuff
Actually there were five bands acting on two stages: ~The Capital Beat; ~Lau Nau [acid folk singer-songwriter]; ~French Film [surf pop]; ~Vuk [experimental rock] and Sistol aka Vladislav Delay [electonic experimentations].
We returned home late at night and were ready to drop. Maybe you could think that i'm a 24-hours party-toy, yes, there is some truth in it. But i really think that it is better to show you some not so popular places than make photos only on the Red Square or to have these billions of russian churches as a background of my pictures.
So stay tuned!
Hugs,
Pyatno
