Borgarfjörður, Iceland - 23rd May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
After crossing a pass on an unpaved road we reached this little fjord in the north east of Iceland.
There were lots of puffins nisting in the harbour and a nice pink "sunset" sky at around 1 a.m.

Hengifoss, Iceland - 24th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
Hengifoss is the fourth highest waterfall in Iceland at 118m.
There are several smaller falls further down that I passed by on the way up.
What a nice walk! I actually forgot to take pictures of myself at the top.

Seyðisfjörður, Iceland - 24th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
Seyðisfjörður is a pretty little fishing village. Here, the only car ferry between Iceland and continental Europe departs, going to Denmark.

Höfn, Iceland - 24th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
I spent the night in a guest house near Höfn in the south west of Iceland. Seemingly every valley here has an outlet glacier of the huge Vatnajökull glacier.
(reindeer ona farm in front of the glacier)

Eldhraun lava field , Iceland - 25th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
The Eldhraun lava field was couased by eruptios from 1783 to 1784 which had massive impact on the climate and thus also socioeconomic events in the agricultural societies of Europe. Now, many years later, it still is a very special landscape. Close to here is the huge Katla volcano which is due an eruption one of these days. (Historically it erupts every 40-95 years and the last significant eruption was in 1918.)

Skógafoss, Iceland - 27th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
After terrific weather conditions on the previous days, this one was about to get really wet.
Skógafoss, 60m high, 25m wide, there's a legend about Viking treasure that was hidden behind the waterfall and the boy who found it could only grab one handle before it vanished, The handle is now in a museum. I could not verify this story, but whoever found treasure behind this waterfall deserved it. That thing looks strong!

Seljalandsfoss , Iceland - 27th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
There are other waterfalls right next to Seljalandsfoss, like this one:
But the special thing about Seljalandsfoss is that, with a bit of climbing, one can get behind it.

Gulfoss, Iceland - 27th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
Gulfoss isn't sich a high waterfall, 11m and then 21m, but it falls into a steep gorge with a lot of power.

Haukadalur, Iceland - 27th May 2016
By: Apperveilchen
This a an active volcanic area with the Strokkur, the big geysir that regularly erupts. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture of the eruption.
Lunch was in a hot house for tomatoes with great tomato soup and homemade bread. It was nice and warm, heated with naturally hot water from a hot spring.
