Tampere, Finland - 15th December 2008
By: arc-en-ciel
I heard that I now have a host to spend the Christmas with! She's from Finland, too, so my journey will have a gentle start since I won't go very far away from home yet.
I'm excited to meet my host. Now I have to get some sleep before the big day.

In the home, we ate pizza!

Wow ... a long flight to Wisconsin but I made it!!
She was so happy to see me! I even got welcomed by the guests she's been hosting. Bebanda is on her first adventure from Greece and Puppy the Cat is also traveling for the first time from Brazil!
The group of us are going with her as she goes to her sister's place kind of in the country! So more pictures later!!

We hit the highway going to her sister's this afternoon. It was a beautiful day out!
With the population, it's technically a town. It's small enough that at noon everyday, they have the "noon whistle" which is the siren in town signaling that it's noon.
I got to meet two nice dogs. The spotted one (who's part bassett hound/springer spaniel) liked me and so did the gray dog, but she didn't like the camera, so she was in the process of running from that (not me!).

We woke up to snow!! She took our pictures from the back door. Isn't it pretty? We weren't expecting a lot of snow but it ended up being quite a bit! (about 4 inches)
She then took our picture snuggling up to the dog.

We took off on a sightseeing day today!
I got to see what the area of where she lives is called. She says it's prettier when there are leaves on the trees.
Then we went to a really pretty area that overlooks the city and more that everyone who visits gets to see! The bluff's American flag is almost visible from most places in the city. Since we are high up, we had to read the signs too to be careful.

The trip down from the bluff was very twisty and we had to drive slow. It's very shady normally driving down. Despite it being almost 60F, there was still snow on the ground!
More sightseeing another day!

It was a very gorgeous day out and warm so we decided to do the last of the sightseeing I could do before the rains moved in.
First picture is of me at the official city welcome sign. It has the American flag, state flag, and city flag flying over the statue of men playing lacrosse, for which the city was named after.
We then went to a park along side the Mississippi River (known as Riverside Park). She first showed me the International Garden but since it's been still chilly, nothing is growing there, so I posed by the entrance and then the gazebo of their sister city in Dubna, Russia.
In the main part of the park, I got to see the statue of Tecumseh. She says this used to be Native American land.
On the river sides, we got to see the ducks. More will come as it warms up. People sometimes bring down bread and feed them.
There's also a big American flag. I just had to post again with it!

While in the park, I got to see the two blue bridges that connect Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The next picture is of me seeing one of the more popular "beaches' in La Crosse, called Pettibone Beach.
We saw some cute dogs being walked and asked if I could meet them, so here's a picture of me and them (they were excited so they were moving around!).
Me with a statue of the American bald eagle. (We actually did see one earlier at the city welcome sign on some ice leftover on a side river, but it flew away before I could get a picture with him).
The trees are budding... Welcome to Spring!!
A beautiful shot of me looking towards Minnesota part of the Mississippi River. The white flecks on the river are birds.
