La Crosse, WI, USA - 30th January 2009

We ventured out into the cold today (single digits above 0*F) to see what we could see.
I got to learn what the area where I've been is called and some history and posed for a picture in front of a coulee.
What the sign says:
“The Coulee Region”
Coulee is a term derived from the French verb “couler” meaning to flow. The area before you and the entire coulee region of west central Wisconsin has been dissected by water erosion into a series of narrow ridges separated by steep-sided valleys called coulees. Fertile soils are farmed on the bottom and sides of coulees. The narrow ridges, often protected by woodlands, are capped by erosion resistant dolomite bedrock which commonly overlies sandstone. During formation of the coulees, erosion cut through the dolomite and removed the underlying weaker sandstone thereby creating the valleys. To the north and south of this marker you can view several coulees and intervening ridges and note that State Highway 33 is situated on one of the dolomite-capped ridges. The Wisconsin novelist Hamlin Garland, was a native of this area and wrote about pioneer life in the coulee region.

Grandad's Bluff, La Crosse, WI, USA - 30th January 2009

Despite the cold we ventured up to the top of a bluff to overlook the city. It is pretty neat! But first we had to read some signs and took a picture with me and the American flag (the lights are from Christmas).

This is very cool! You get to see the city of La Crosse and Minnesota and a portion of Iowa (just land).
Pictures are from the south to the north.
The last picture is of the group that did the fireworks on New Years. The bluff is where they launched them.

First picture is us leaving the observation part of the bluff.
Then we went down the road that is very twisty. It's called "Bliss Road".

Today, when Sam got home from work, she decided that she wanted to bake some muffins to take to work with her tomorrow.
So that is what we did tonight.

Today, Sam stopped on the way to work to get something special for one of the people she works with. It was his 1 year anniversary of being with the company.
She bought him Tiramisu.
Tonight after work, we are leaving to go to New Jersey with one of Sam's friends.

Popcorn Park Zoo, New Jersey, USA - 21st March 2009
By: samsmith621
On Saturday, we woke up and visited a flea market in the morning. In the afternoon we went to Popcorn Park which is a zoo that has mostly injured an unwanted animals. You can feed the majority of the animals popcorn! It was a lot of fun. Here we are in front of the camel enclosure.
There were a lot of pretty peacocks just walking around. You could just walk right up to them. Here's a photo of one.
The ground where we were was very sandy. This was due to the fact that we were very close to the Pine Barrens. All the pine needles make the dirt very sandy.
