Christchurch, New Zealand - 20th June 2008
By: aelina
Finally an update!
I went to New Zealand with aelina about two months ago. Heh seems like it was yesterday.
We flew to the city of Christchurch, which is the biggest city on the South Island of New Zealand, and spent a week exploring the city and its surroundings.
On the first day we went to the Christ Church Cathedral and climbed all the way up to the spire of the church. Unfortunately aelina forgot to take pictures of me climbing the stairs. They were very steep and I had to work really hard to climb them as I am a tiny echidna. After the climb, I insisted we stop for a coffee and a bagel, all that exercise makes you hungry! Anyway, here I am with my little lunch.
After a long day of walking around the city and getting oriented, we had a look at the travel guide aelina had brought with her.
One day we made a day trip to one of the suburbs on the coast, Sumner. This is me on the beach. That's the Pacific Ocean behind me! We found some shells, too, but we didn't take them with us because they would have been confiscated by Australian customs.
We decided to go visit a village called Arthur's Pass, about half way across the island. It's a small mountain village next to Arthur's Pass National Park. We went hiking in the mountains and here are the pictures. The first two were taken on the train journey to Arthur's Pass. It's called the TranzAlpine, and it has been ranked as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. And it was spectacular! The other two pictures were taken in the mountains.

Sydney, Australia - 15th August 2008
By: aelina
Aelina was supposed to send me on to my next host last week, but I'm glad she didn't! She took me to Sydney with her.
We were only there for a few days but we got to see all the important sights. Here I am at the Opera House, it was magnificent! Behind me in the second picture is the Harbour Bridge.
On Friday we took the train from Sydney to the little town of Katoomba, and visited the Blue Mountains. We went hiking again, and here's the only picture of me from that trip. You can see the rock formation known as the Three Sisters to my left. They are very important to the Aboriginal people of this area.
I'm sure I can tick off one of my life missions now, as I've had heaps of fun in NZ and Australia. My next stop is at JaymeC's.

I have decided not to travel, after all. My apologies to those who were expecting a visit from me.
Some other time, maybe!
