Nagoya, Japan - 6th February 2009
By: kiskis
Hi Mom! I visited Nagoya last week.
I met Super Mario! I was so excited
And I met Obama!! Just kidding:P Those are Obamasks
Nagoya has a unique food culture and it is called Nagoya-Meshi. I couldn't try all the Nagoya-Meshi but I liked everything I tried there!!
Those are Tebasaki, fried chicken wings with unique spicy sauce. Nagoya is famous for its chickens; Nagoya Cochin and Mikawa Dori.
This is Dote-Ni. Beef guts and Konnyaku stewed with Hacchou Miso, a special Miso in Nagoya. It sounds a bit gross but it was so good!
This is Hitsumabushi. Hitsumabushi is usually eel Hitsumabushi but this one is chicken Hitsumabushi. First, you eat it without anything. Second, you eat it with spices. Third, you eat it with the soup. Finally, you eat it the way you liked most. I liked it with the soup
I visited Nagoya-Joh castle!
The map of the castle and the garden. It's huge!
The moat.
The east gate where we bought ourselves tickets.
The statue of the man who was in charge of building the moat.
You can see the castle and the ruins.
Nagoya Joh castle is one of the 3 best castles in Japan.
First, there was 那古野城(Nagoya-Joh), where Oda Nobunaga was born. (You might have heard his name in some video games.) On the ruins of 那古野城, Tokugawa Ieyasu built 名古屋城(Nagoya-Joh, the same pronunciation.) for his 9th son.
The castle was burnt down in WWII but they started re-builting it in 1959. And it is still underconstruction.
The castle you can see is now a museum.
This is the famous Kin no Shachihoko, the golden shachihoko. Shachihoko is the end tiles in the sape of a shachihoko, an imaginary sea animal with the head of a tiger and the body of a fish. It's a symbol of Nagoya-Joh.
Kago, a palanquin. You can see Tokugawa family crest on it.
Those are Shachihoko that were found in the ruins of Edo Joh castle in Tokyo. Not known which roof they were on.
The armor. Scary, isn't it?
I had a good time there in Nagoya.
On our way home, we could see Mt.Fuji!
The picture was taken from the bullet train but I was so happy to see the mountain!
Well, see you soon, mom. Hope you are having a wonderful day
