Essen, Germany - 1st February 2009

By: BlackCat

This is one shop in the city of Essen. We found it when we were just walking around there. Doesn’t it look nice?

Essen, Germany - 3rd February 2009

By: BlackCat

Today we made some cookies for the budgies of BlackCat. She found a recipe online how she can make cookies for her birds herself and wanted to try it. So we went with her in the kitchen and helped her as good as we could.

The cookies are ready =)!

Essen, Germany - 9th February 2009

By: BlackCat

Today we wanted to welcome a friend of BlackCat that will visit us with the bus. We were all really excited. I was allowed to go with her to the bus station and welcome her friend. So I was happy.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/1.jpg

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/2.jpg

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/4.jpg

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/8.jpg
As you can see I saw a lot nice places on the way to the bus stop.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/3.jpg
This is for the traffic light. When you press it the lights for the cars will turn red and your lights will turn green so that you can go over the street.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/5.jpg
That’s the sign of the bus stop.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/6.jpg
As we had still some time BlackCat showed me the emblem of Essen on the backside of the timetable.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/7.jpg
That is the map of all bus and trains in Essen. Such a chaos on it, isn’t it?

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/10.jpg

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/11.jpg
Waiting for the bus is really comfortable.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/09/13.jpg
And there the bus arrives.

Essen, Germany - 16th February 2009

By: BlackCat

Today we made a short stop at the main station of Essen. They are working at it at the moment, so that it is nicer for 2010, when Essen is the cultural capital of Europe for one year.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/16/26.jpg
Here you can see them working.

http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/toyvoyagerfriend/2009/February/16/27.jpg
And that is the “Handelshof” a hotel on the other side of the street. It had the emblem of Essen on it. Can you see them?

Today we went shopping into the Limbecker Platz. It is a new shopping centre in Essen with lots of nice shops. They are still building a part of it, but one part is ready for shopping already. It is really nice there and we had a lot of fun.

Essen, Germany - 4th March 2009

By: BlackCat

I had to go today. My next stop will be Munich and I am excited. But I am a little bit sad, too. Leaving my new friends here isn’t so nice. So I decided to wave them and go away fast then.

Today the weather was cold and rainy - so I refused to get out of the nice and comfy backpack and get a photo taken at the Stachus (Karlsplatz).

As usual I went for a walk with Maggy, our host's dog. We were very surprised when the meadows along the Isar river was suddenly dug up. Later we heard that this part of the Isar close to the German Museum is "under renaturation". In the seventies many rivers were put straigth, now they are put back into the previous natural state.

I accompanied my host to her home town. Sulzbach-Rosenberg is a small town in the North-East of Bavaria. Pandamao showed me the town centre, a former cloister, the castle and town-hall.

Soon I'll be leaving Munich and my host said that I have to see at least Marienplatz in the city centre before moving to a new location. I especially liked the glockenspiel in the town hall's tower.

Munich, Germany - 20th March 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,

today here we planned to walk through the old town and than to visit Westpark.

We started at Sendlinger Tor, which is a city gate at the southern extremity of the historic old town area of Munich.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3419/3379083528_9e14798d6f.jpg?v=0

From here we walked along Sedlinger Straße to do some shoppings.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3645/3379083478_ce6d238929.jpg?v=0

Of course we also visited Marienplatz with the famous new town hall. On the next photo you can see the Mariensäule (Marian column) and also the towers of the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of our blessed lady).

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3449/3379083416_f9c8110f69.jpg?v=0

From here we went to Westpark by metro.

Westpark is a large urban public park in Munich. It was completed in 1983. It hosted the fourth International Garden Show (IGA 83) that same year.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3444/3379083168_f7e8e144d6.jpg?v=0

I saw this statue, displaying a bear.

They have an area here which is called Little Asia which consists of a Chinese garden, a Japanese garden, a Thai sala and a pagoda.

Unfortunately the part with the Chinese garden was closed for visitors at the moment.

So let me show you the Japanese garden.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3475/3379089314_7076c89dc1.jpg?v=0

This is the beautiful Thai sala.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3466/3378265033_ed92687552.jpg?v=0

We took a long walk in the park and went back to the town centre than.

This is Karolinenplatz, an important intersection here.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3379083034_107e37c683.jpg?v=0

From here we walked to Königsplatz. The square is framed with the "Ionic" Glyptothek and the "Doric" Propylaea (Propyläen) and the "Corinthian" State Museum of Classical Art.

That's enough for today, my little feet are aching.

Bye
Bruni

Munich, Tierpark Hellabrunn, Germany - 22nd March 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,

we visited Tierpark Hellabrunn today.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3574/3379082766_c285390409.jpg?v=0

We saw lots of interesting animals.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3569/3379082522_f2a0cedb3a.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/3378264235_aa732b9c4a.jpg?v=0

A bear!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3466/3378264361_86eb013c8a.jpg?v=0

Have a look at those giant turtles.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3567/3378264075_f90570b70b.jpg?v=0

We also watched a show with raptors. They showed a barn owl, a peregrine falcon and a golden eagle.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3140/3379088852_987236c7a4.jpg?v=0

The girl is showing the peregrine falcon here.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3626/3379088512_7e209940e7.jpg?v=0

They let the birds fly and they came back after performing how to kill their prey.

This is the golden eagle.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3469/3379088746_12ce6d1c0d.jpg?v=0

We had to leave to zoo than to get back to the airport. Here we are on our way back home. My last journey does not happen in an envelope, but in a plane!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3591/3378264021_8f6c9ebcbc.jpg?v=0

I had a fantastic time in Munich!

See you soon
Bruni
