Frankfurt a.M., Germany - 10th February 2008

By: fam-united

Today is my last day with my host family in Bruchsal. Because we still had beautiful weather and Petra felt much better again, we decided to make a trip to Frankfurt a.M., which is about one hour away from Bruchsal.
At first we thought, that we could visit the zoo, but then we decided to visit the airport. Everyone was really excited, but unhappily we had no chance to join the family while the had a bus sightseeing tour there.
Hasi, Sabrina's own toyvoyager, took some photos for me, so I hadn't been to sad, that I had to wait in the rucksack in a bus on the parking place.

Now I know, that Frankfurt a.M. has the third biggest airport in Europe after London and Paris. Nearly 70 000 people work at this airport. Due to more than 51 Mio passengers, nearly 480 000 flights and 1.75 mio tons of air cargo this airport belongs to the biggest international airports.

We all were hungry and of course we toyvoyagers wanted to talk about that airport, because Hasi and Mister Snow had been allowed to go into the visitor bus. So we had a rest at a resting place of the freeway.

Darmstadt, Germany - 10th February 2008

By: fam-united

Petra told us, that there is a house created by Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Darmstadt. We still had some time, so we drove there and found this house. I just can tell you, that it is very very beautiful and interesting.
It is called "Waldspirale", what means something like wood spiral. It was created between 1998 and 2000 and seems to be like a fairy-tale castle. No window is like the other.
It has space for 105 appartments.
There are lime trees, beeches and maple trees on top of the roof. A playground and a similated river are part of the garden in the inner part of the spiral. In the tower on the southeast corner is a restaurant with cocktailbar and in the opposite tower a café.
Sadly Hundertwasser died in February 2000 short before the building was completed.

Münster, Germany - 15th February 2008

By: Mizzery

Hello!

Today Yuri and I arrived at Martinas place in Greven, a very little town close to Münster. And we arrived just in time to accompanie Martina and a few other toyvoyagers on a little tour through Münster!

Münster is a relatively big town in North Rhine-Westphalia. The town is famous for it's huge university. As most students travel by bike they have nearly more bikes than inhabitants here!

We wanted to started our trip in the late afternoon so the town isn't  that crowded and we can see all the places we wanted to go to. We had to go by train, that was really exciting!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2006/2269181079_43da974434.jpg

The first thing Martina told us about Münster is that they have many many churches here. There are so many that the people always say "In Münster, either the church bells are ringing or it's raining." Furtunately, the bells were ringing and we had wonderful sunshine.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2015/2269177389_d55399be14.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2328/2269182923_830784ec0e.jpg

The city is very amazing. They have very very old buildings here and they are next to the modern ones and the shopping streets. So, you can see wonderful architecture in nearly every street.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2071/2269972664_723fd23353.jpg

This, in the middle of the city, is the city hall. Isn't it a cool building?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2179/2269185401_22a7f8f2bf.jpg

Wow, everywhere you go you find a church...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2080/2269185737_ecf787c150.jpg

After some time of walking we were very tired. It's such a huge town and so long ways to go. So we decided to make a little break at a fountain.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2269/2269967462_d77475dcdd.jpg

Afterwards we wanted to visit "Das blaue Haus" (The Blue House) a famous restaurant in Münster.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2084/2269974012_72dbeec0ec.jpg

Our last stop was next to the university. Here is a very huge castle with a huge garden around and amazing architecture. It's already very very old but sooooo cool!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2077/2269970190_aac1998e4b.jpg

As you can see mommy, my first day in Greven/Münster was really cool and I'm so happy to be here!

Greetings to you all!

Ollie

Greven, Germany - 17th February 2008

By: Mizzery

This week the weather is very bad so we had to stay at home.

But that shouldn't be a problem there are so many funny things to do at home.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2297/2289047304_d78c5a9c72.jpg

At first we played a little hide and seek....

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2328/2288262545_b5c26c3028.jpg

It was really hard for our host to find us!

And I was really surprised that they have sooo  many dragons here in Germany...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2075/2288265363_f8ef08ecf1.jpg

Afterwards we had to do some housework... but fortunately, we were all very good in finding pairs of single socks...

Greven, Germany - 20th February 2008

By: Mizzery

Today it kept on raining and we thought about what to do...

We decided to draw a few paintings. It was really funny and we needed a few hours to finish...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3186/2289063224_94ab159519.jpg

Then our host decided to teach us a little German.
And with the help of the dictionarys we learned a few sentences.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2325/2288267617_04105de18b.jpg

I'm on holidays in Germany - Ich mache Urlaub in Deutschland
I'm a Toyvoyager - Ich bin ein Toyvoyager
I travel around the whole world - Ich reise um die ganze Welt

But to study the whole day is to boring and I wanted to listen to some German music to see how much I can understand.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2408/2289064244_62432d4610.jpg

In the evening we wanted to watch a DVD but it was really hard to decide on ONE movie. Unfortunately there are no movies with aliens, dogs, marmots and bears all in one...

Greven, Germany - 22nd February 2008

By: Mizzery

Now, we are well acquainted with our hosts cats and we are even allowed to share the bed with them!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2178/2289050200_ffb8825710.jpg

We are good friends now!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2402/2289053446_1ab47c1689.jpg

But you can't stay in bed all day. So we made a toyvoyagers battle on playstation.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2302/2288263673_914a5bfded.jpg

To sad, Auggie isn't good in playing such games... his armes are toooo short.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3092/2288270719_8a625d5264.jpg

That's why we decided to do something everyone can do: we started to read for a little while.

Greven, Germany - 24th February 2008

By: Mizzery

As it's the last day Auggie and Alred are spending with us, our host wanted to show us part of their postcrossing collection because we wanted to know where they are going next. We were so fascinated by the cards that we started to build a card house. We started with a small one...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3065/2288271461_eb9bd42757.jpg

and then we made it higher and higher...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3080/2289062530_dc3d302e68.jpg

but it's not easy to build a card house when a little cat is around...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3170/2288268493_00c66d58a3.jpg

So, unfortunately all broke down before we achieved to build a house of all cards..

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3149/2288261019_dd3de3913d.jpg

But then it was time to say goodbye for Auggie and Alfred, so we made one last visit with them to Siggi who's a huge Viking worrior living in our hosts apartment.

Münster, Germany - 25th February 2008

By: Mizzery

Hello again!

Today we had the chance to accompany our host to work!
Martina has to learn for her exams at the chamber of commerce and industry next week so we decided to go with her.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2399/2302778382_78d63cb918.jpg

There are a lot of books and papers to go through and we helped Martina to learn all thats necessary.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3257/2302769010_1acd1db4c4.jpg

It's pretty boring to learn all day so we took the chance to play with the Laptop and watched a few toyvoyagers blogs to see what other toyvoyagers are doing. There are so many places we want to see!

Greven, Germany - 27th February 2008

By: Mizzery

The food here in Germany is very good! But I have to stay in shape to keep postage cheap and so we decided to go to the gym.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3258/2302763198_2be577234f.jpg

Unfortunately it's a bit difficult as all the training machines are sooooo huge (or our arms are just to short...)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2043/2301968605_a9baf54fbf.jpg

but when you are creative and do teamwork you can have a lot of fun!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2164/2301976053_0e68ac7230.jpg

Finally we found some exercises we can do that fit to our size!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2137/2301966319_1aefdea91d.jpg

I think this one is a bit tooooo heavy to start with...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3046/2301972539_383ab0316b.jpg

Afterwards we were really tired and in need of some rest.

Ibbenbüren, Germany - 28th February 2008

By: Mizzery

Today we visited Martina's parents-in-law in Ibbenbüren!
We arrived in the afternoon and ready for some cake and coffee.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2092/2302777800_35034b0c8e.jpg

Unfortunately, coffee wasn't my taste so we decided to search the house and play a little.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2335/2301984353_c531c380c4.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2302782286_ff95217321.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3222/2302783932_666dfc725f.jpg

Wow, this picture on the wall is a handcraft made by Martina's father-in-law. It must have taken hours to finish!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2196/2302782664_5456a1508b.jpg

Look! I'm sitting on a really really huge bird! And I'm not scared!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3184/2301985547_89dc27a8cc.jpg

And we found this huge egg! First, I though it belongs to the huge bird I was sitting on but Martina told me that it's a souvenir from a trip to Africa.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2006/2301987261_293d1f24b7.jpg

And more birds...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3222/2302785708_39217d8421.jpg

Tomorrow is my birthday!!!! I'm so nervous and curious!
I think I won't sleep tonight.....
