Eugene, Oregon, USA - 22nd January 2009
By: BunTraveler
Muki did a little bit of site seeing around town but the weather has been so cold and the inversion of polluted air has made it hard to take good clear photos. People burn fireplaces and use wood stoves here to keep warm in winter and it makes the sky filled with smoke on some days.
Muki did get to view part of Eugene from the top of the hill near his hosts home.

While visiting the top of the hill, Muki got to watch someone trying to climb the area just below. This part of the hill is available for climbers to try out new equipment from the business next to the hill that specializes in mountain climbing equipment.
Very interesting to watch.

While in Eugene Muki also got to visit a lake that in the summer is a viable lake for ski boats, sailing boats and fishing.
During the winter the lake water is let out of a dam so that the run off water from the spring rains and creeks that flow into the lake will not flood the area. The lake still has water in it but it is very low in the winter.

Muki will get a little bit more traveling in and site seeing before he leaves Oregon. Here he was getting a chance to see one of the spanding bridges that go over some of the rivers here. All interesting construction.

Muki was lucky enough to get out of the house today. It was still quite cold at 34*F today but it was the only day left to visit Eugene.
Downtown Eugene is the first and only place in the United States at this time to honor Rosa Parks who was the first black American to not give up her seat on a bus to a white man.
After a long hard day of work and the many exchanges on the buses to get home everyday, she refused to move when a man told her to get out of the white section of the bus and give him the seat.
To honor Rosa Parks and the situation of how she changed history, there was a statue made in her honor and the Eugene Bus station made a name change to the Rosa Parks Eugene Transit Bus Station.
Muki was very honored indeed to be able to be the first toyvoyager to sit on the statue of Rosa Parks.
We know this is not a monument that might count in his collection of life missions but we think this is a very important issue to mention and one that Muki will remember for a lifetime.
Here are a few links that tell more about the statue and it's artist and the event that day the statue was placed in downtown Eugene.

There are other famous statues in Eugene downtown area. Here is another that was made about a family that were loggers here in the great Northwest.
"Sometimes a Great Notion" a great book and a great movie.
Here the statues show the family reading of the tales of "Sometimes a Great Notion" and a plaque telling of parts of the book that is placed at the base of the artwork.
The artist did a great job of portrayal of the family.
Ken Kesey was also known for "One Flew over the CooCoo's Nest" which was great reading and an even better movie.
When visiting Eugene Oregon it is fun to see the artwork and statues that are displayed in the downtown location.
Links will be added later.

Muki was happy to stand in front of the plaque telling about a part in the book of "Sometimes A Great Notion."
I am sure that while here, Muki learned a great deal more than he planned on. That's what travel is all about.
There was also some different type of art shown here next to Muki standing near the statues. Also a fountain in downtown Eugene.
Muki will be on his way soon to his nex host.
We were happy to be his host and entertain him here in Oregon and we hope that he takes back a lot of memories with him.

Muki gathered together with friends just before leaving. He has met several of the toyvoyagers that have traveled around the world from BunTravelers and soon they will all be traveling again.
They have been taking a break at home to meet the other toyvoyagers as they come here for a visit.
Everyone said goodbye and Muki will be off to his homeland in just a few more days. He is going back to Hungary very soon.
Muki has been a great little guest and we hope that he has safe travels on his way back home.

Muki has found a new friend that would like to "Hitch A Ride" back with him to Hungary.
Before he knew what happen this little guy jumped inside the package ready to go with Muki back home. We know that Muki and our little SillyWillyBlu will have a great time traveling together and perhaps Muki can show SillyWillyBlu some landscapes and buildings and beautiful areas of Hungary.
Please let us know when they arrive and that our SillyWillyBlu is safe too.
Muki left here 2-9-09
