Travelog for: Jan

Ishikawa, Japan - 15th September 2007

By: yumi

This is my dinner for tonight.

I had red rice, boiled vegetable, sliced beef, and raw fish.

The red rice is prepared by red beans and glutinous rice.
We have red rice for festivals and felicitous occasions with our family.
A small festival was held at the area where yumi lives today.
Yumi's grandma made the red rice.

Takaoka, Japan - 20th September 2007

By: yumi

Today I went to Takaoka where is the 2nd biggest city of Toyama prefecture. Toyama is next to Ishikawa Yumi lives in.

When I was walking, I found a shrine ( I forgot the name though...)

Then, I went to Yamachosuzi. 42 mud-walled houses in Meiji era (1868-1912) are conserved along a 600m street.

Then, I found statue of Doraemon and other charactoers at a park. Have you ever heard of Doraemon? It is a very popular comic(manga) and cartoon! Doraemon is a cat robbot made in 22nd century.

Amaharashi, Japan - 20th September 2007

By: yumi

I went to the beach called Amaharashi.
Amaharashi means 'rain clears'
Both the sky and sea were very blue. The waves were calm.

I wanted to see the sunset at the beach, but I couldn't...because it was opposite. Fortunately I could see beautiful sunset in a train when I go back home.

Nara ,was the capital from 710 to 784, is a historical city.
Nara has 9 shrines/temples which are registered as UNESCO world heritage.
We visited three of them.

First, we visited Kofuku-ji temple.
The temple has a pagoda
The pagoda was first built in 730, but it was burned down again and again.
It is about 50m tall, the sedond tallest in Japan.

Next, we visited Todai-ji temple.
I saw some deer at the temple.

The temple has a huge statue of Buddha which was made in 752.
The statue looks powerful and has a dignity.

I saw many high school students with school uniforms who visit the temple as a school trip.

Nara, Japan - 25th September 2007

By: yumi

Then, we visited Kasuga Taisha(Shrine).

Kasuga Taisha is the biggest shrine in Nara city.
The shrine was founded about 1200 years ago at the time when the capital was moved to Nara.

I was taken the first photo in front of the entrance gate, Nan-mon.
The gate was built in Heian era(794-1185)

At the shrine, I found many lanterns.
The shrine has about 3000 lanterns.

Ishikawa, Japan - 13th October 2007

By: yumi

I was really excited today, because I finally ate SUSHI!!

I tried two kinds of sushi.
One was Inari zushi(sushi). The yellow staff was made from soybeans.
Another was Saba zushi(sushi). Saba means mackerel. Have you ever heard of the fish? Mackeral(Saba) is eaten very often by Japanese people.

One mission has completed!! Yay.

From Japan, To Slovenia - 2nd November 2007

By: yumi

Today I was sent to Slovenia.

Yumi and I were surprised at a post office, because a man staff asked us 'Where is Slovenia?'
She immediately answered 'Slovenia is Europe!'
We were a little bit anxious about Jan's journey...
I hope I will arrive at the next host's home in Slovenia safely
