Travelog for: Serge

Hello!
My name is Serge and I'm a handsome pelican from Mexico. I'm originally from a beautiful beach in the Gulf of Mexico but after the horrible 2010 oil spill I had to relocate and now I'm living in Mexico city.
I absolutely love it here! But after thinking about it for a while I'm ready to see the world!

I'm about 8.5 cm tall


I miss the sea sometimes and the sink is the closest thing I've got!

My neighborhood is very nice and because of the time period it was built in there's a lot of Art Nouveau, let me show you a little bit:

One of the main landmarks of the neighborhood is the Kiosko Morisco (a beautiful kiosk with arabic influence)






Near the kiosk we can find the geology institute and museum

The other main landmark is the Museo Universitario del Chopo, it's one of the most famous museums in Mexico city because of it's structure and it currently hosts mainly contemporary art shows and exhibitions


And I think that's good for now, I'll try to go out as much as I can before I begin my trip... I wonder what countries I'll get to visit!

I'm still on the process of looking for a host, hopefully I can find one soon! In the meanwhile I'm enjoying my city so I don't get homesick when I leave. Yesterday we went dowtonwn to San Ildefonso museum, a very important landmark since it's believed the mexican muralism movement started in its walls. You can read more here if you are curious

We went there to see La maleta mexicana (the mexican suitcase) an exhibition of photos of the Spanish Civil War that got lost for many years and were found in 2007 in Mexico city








San Ildefonso is full of murals made by famous mexican artists




And stained glass windows too...


There's even a cinema inside!

San Ildefonso is definitely a beautiful place! And since it's located in the city centre we got to see some other things...

We stopped to get some lunch in a cool pizza place, here I am posing with the menu

We ran into Maman a famous sculpture by Louis Bourgeois that has travelled all around the world! Kind of like a giant Toyvoyager :P

As the sun was setting we passed by El Caballito (the little horse) a modern sculpture that is located in one of the main avenues of the city


And finally we walked by the monument to the mexican revolution


It was a really fun day but I got really tired so today I will stay at home and relax in my nest while looking for a host!

Today it was a lazy day, we stayed at home and made some waffles for breakfast...

Waffle flour, egg, milk and butter...


We mix everything and add chocolate chips so they melt inside and we don't have to put anything on top when they're done


Then we pour the mix in the waffle maker, close it and wait for a few minutes...


And then we have some yummy waffles!


On the other hand I'm really excited because I know where I'll start my journey!!! I wanted to travel right away but since the holidays are coming and I don't want to spend those days inside an envelope my trip will begin in january and the first place I'm visiting is...

Madrid!!! I got so excited I went online to read a little bit


And after that I'm going to Vienna!!!


I really can't wait for january to arrive!

Today we went to another museum and I had a wonderful time, this museum is very special, it's called Museo del Objeto del Objeto which translates to museum of the object of the object (which is a game of words to refer to the purpose of the objects).
The museum borrows objects from people who have a collection that has something to do with the theme they are displaying and then give the things back to their owners when the display changes so other collectors can show their stuff in the museum.

The theme they are displaying now is the Rock and roll movement in Mexico so there's a lot of memorabilia from mexican bands and some stuff from foreign artists that have influenced mexican music
















U2 is our favorite band!


Some artists have very interesting stuff, specially costumes...








On this super cool vintage TV they were showing a documentary about Avándaro, a music festival that is considered "The mexican Woodstock"


This place was super fun! And after the museum we had lunch at Wendy's


The holidays are just around the corner so the next days will be hectic and for sure I'll have some more adventures!

These days around Christmas were hectic specially with gift shopping...


And after buying we wrapped and wrapped, first we choose the paper we like the most

I even decorated my nest with some Christmas lights!


We also saw the tree and the lights downtown, it was beautiful! But I couldn't snap a lot of pictures because it was very crowded

So after lots of waiting I'm finally on my way to adventure!!!

And I got to chat with Sidney L. who is visiting my home and has already travelled to other countries

Hi mom, today i go to the centre of Madrid.

Here, with the statue of "El oso y el madroño"

here, in front of "Puerta del sol". This is the place when people comes the noght of december 31 to eat the 12 grapes at midnight. The clock is very famous





and here, front of the metro. The real name was SOL, but this yea r changed the name to VODAFONE SOL. Vodafone is the name of telephone company and put that name to SOL was a horrible thing.



finally, i go to the shopping center, but i  can take only 1 photograph. Other day i take more, i promise.

hi mom, sorry, but my host is very bussy this weeks. Today, we go to a garden center.
