Anchorage, Alaska, USA - 14th September 2013

By: AbbeyV

Today was my first day out on the town!  We went shopping for groceries, shopping for birthday gifts, and went to the post office.  It was pretty exciting, but tomorrow there are bigger plans.  Today I was just getting the feel of my wings while I was out and about.  Tonight I'm going out to dinner at my parents favorite restaurant, Aladdins!  Pictures to follow! :)

Well, I am STUFFED!  Not literally, but I had SUCH a good dinner at Aladdins, my parents favorite restaurant.  They have such good Mediterranean food, I always leave smelling like curry and spices and I LOVE that.  I had arabic mint tea, halibut muniere, artichoke dip, and then they made me pay the bill.  The food was well worth it though!  Such a great night out!

I met my brothers and sister beagles tonight.  Molly, Buckley and Hammie were very interested in playing with me.  I got a little drooly, but I seem no worse for the wear.

I went to visit Airport Park.  It was a clear day so I could see Denali, the tallest mountain in North America! 1 mountain down, 5 mountains to go.  I wish I could see a mountain in Antarctica, but I don't think there are any hosts in Antarctica.  From the other end of the park you can see my hometown of Anchorage!  It's a great town.  I love it here, but I can't wait to see the rest of the world!

I also found a letterbox that is owned by my parents!  My parents dug it up so that I could say I have found a letterbox.  If you want to learn about letterboxing, go to Atlas Quest!  It is my parents other hobby.  It's so much fun!!

I had to go with mom to take a trigonometry test today.  Thankfully it wasn't too terrible.  I think mom did okay.  But, thankfully, I was in her pocket the whole time so I didn't have to think too hard about angles and sines and cosines.

Today I went to Anatomy and Physiology class.  It was learning about the heart physiology and circuitry today.  It was terribly boring, even mom thought so.  Up next, studying for the Anatomy and Physiology test on Monday.

Anchorage, Alaska, USA - 23rd September 2013

Today was the first day it snowed where my mom lives.  It is COLD and unusual that it snowed in September.  But, it's winter now, so here we are. Mom also has an anatomy test today.  She's not terribly excited about it, so this is a short update.  Oh well.

Anchorage, Alaska, USA - 24th September 2013

Well, today was Anatomy and Physiology lab.  Friends are not allowed in anatomy lab so I wasn't allowed to take any pictures IN lab, but I took a picture outside my lab room.  It's a very pretty, modern building.  I was also looking at a model of a flower.  Unfortunately, I'm not that kind of bird, so I'm not interested in pistils and pollen and stuff like that.  But, it was cool to look at the inside of a flower anyway.

It was a really rough day for mom.  She was not feeling well and very stressed out.  So, generally when that happens, we stop at the local Dutch baker, The Flying Dutchman and get some delicious treats!  Boy, they were delightful!  If you're ever in Anchorage, Alaska, make sure you visit that bakery.  It's as close as you come to European pastries.  The baker is Dutch, so it works out.  :)

Today mom had to do her medication, so I helped her and held her hand while she had to do her infusions.  Which I learned, means she had to put needles in and put medication in through tubes.  But, she said it really helps her feel good, so I'm glad she's doing it.  I am planning on leaving my home on Saturday.  So, I think I'm on my way to Germany for a couple of months.  I think I'll stay there through Christmas and then I'm headed to someone else's house, who really likes birds!  That will be a real treat!  I guess this will be my last update from Alaska, home, for awhile!

Bruchsal, Germany - 30th October 2013

By: fam-united

I just arrived in time to leave Bruchsal to drive to my host's aunt and uncle, who live in Mannheim. I'm curious to get to know this city or at least a part of it. Right now we still are in Bruchsal and this is the largest traffic roundabout here.

Stuttgart, Germany - 31st October 2013

By: fam-united

The next day we thought it would be a good idea, to go on another trip. The weather was nice, but we didn't think of the short holiday break many people had, so there was a lot of traffic on the road and we didn't get far within an hour. So the only thing we did was driving and standing in the traffic jam and taking a photo now and then. I really hope to see more of Stuttgart one day. Stuttgart is the main city of the federal state Baden-Württemberg.

We came past the Porsche Museum.

on the road, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

Today we were allowed to travel with our host and her husband. We were really curious, because we didn't know the destination. We had a nice place in the car, though, so we had been able to take a look at the surrounding area.

Calw, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

It was a really nice day with beautiful weather, so we decided to stop in Calw and take a walk there and also visit the Herrmann Hesse Museum.
Calw is located in the northern Black Forest and is approximately 18 kilometers south of Pforzheim and 33 kilometers west of Stuttgart. It was first mentioned in records in 1075.
There are many nice halftimbered houses as you can see in our photos.

We saw parts of the original fortifications constructed before 1500 - it was really a small part of it.

This is a part of the market place. Some of the photos we already showed above.

Then we visited the museum. Hermann Hesse (German: [ˈhɛɐ̯man ˈhɛsə]; 2 July 1877 – 9 August 1962) was a German poet, novelist, and painter. His best-known works include Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and The Glass Bead Game, each of which explores an individual's search for authenticity, self-knowledge and spirituality. In 1946, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
