Huskisson, NSW, Australia - 18th July 2013
By: sararingham
Today was an amazing day! I did things I never thought I would ever be able to do as a little toy frog... I was the lucky toyvoyager chosen, along with Toothy Walrus to go on a whale watch inside (and outside) Jervis Bay... it was amazing!
Just outside of Huskisson Wharf we saw some dolphins... they were far off in the distance, but then came kind close. They played a bit of hide and seek with us so it was hard to get photos of me and the dolphins together as they were so quick! We had a dolphin come right up to the boat and look straight at us before getting back together with their pod. There was even a little calf! See the fin size difference?
We continued on... we were after some bigger fish (so to speak)... we had a long journey to the mouth of the bay - where one of the most spectacular sights of the New South Wales coast is... Point Perpendicular. It's very iconic to New South Wales because of the sharp and steep cliff face with the lighthouse. The lighthouse isn't fully operational at all times, but they light it up again once every year. The lighthouse was actually them fixing a problem... there's another lighthouse that I'll probably go to called the Ruined Lighthouse... it was placed in the wrong spot and called a lot more shipwrecks and a lot of mysterious deaths. Pretty crazy... but that was destroyed and the Point Perpendicular lighthouse was built in it's place... saved quite a few more lives that's for sure!
If you see opposite Point Perpendicular, there's an island just before the other side of the bay... that is called Bowen Island. Bowen Island isn't habited by humans... we can't go on the island actually - as it's a breeding ground for Fairy Penguins (also known as Little Penguins)... you can occasionally see them in the bay - as well as a lot of seals... and apparently marlins as well if you're into big game fishing... there's a lot of it in Jervis Bay... crazy!
Just outside of the mouth of the bay we started seeing them off in the distance... what is it we were seeing? Humpback whales! On their migration route North to give birth to young... they go up North to give birth and then they go back South with them later in the year (September-November)... some are still heading North. These guys were on their way with nothing stopping them as they didn't decide to come close to us unfortunately... but we saw a lot of spouts and a lot of dorsal fins... I'd love to see one breach... wouldn't that be cool?!
While we were waiting for the whales to make a sign we watched as about 20 albatrosses circled the boat. They were HUGE birds! Our host actually caught a photo of them taking off... they actually have to run on top of the water to get enough speed to make flight! Crazy! They were amazingly graceful!
Finally we had to turn back around - so we got a few more pictures of Point Perpendicular as we sat down for the long ride back to Huskisson Wharf! What an amazing day!

Pebbly Beach, NSW, Australia - 17th August 2013
By: sararingham
We took a trip to Pebbly Beach... which is about 90 minutes drive down the coast from where we live. It's a beach which regularly has some kangaroos, which are quite friendly and happy to get a nice scratch behind the ear. We parked and started to walk down to the beach and saw a little wallaby sitting nearby some bush - he wasn't too friendly though and was frightened, so we were only able to get one photo before he bounced off... none the less, we continued down to the beach to see what else we could find...
Jackpot! We found a momma kangaroo who was slightly startled by us, but allowed us a few photos... but didn't want us to get too close. Nearby there was another, smaller kangaroo. After a few more photos we noticed a little joey sticking his head out of his mommas pouch - so we figured that it must have been last years joey which has recently been kicked out to make room for the new baby... especially with how she reacted to him in this video...
Just as that video was taken we noticed there was another kangaroo, behind the bush. We walked up to him, giving him some space, and he actually came up to us from there. He was really interested in getting a scratch behind the ears and quite enjoyed us giving him a friendly pat while he had his dinner. He even came down to smell us, but thankfully we didn't smell like his food, so he didn't go in for a bite. He was incredibly friendly!
Unfortunately because of the sun going down, quite quickly, we couldn't stay very long. This was so cool though, so I hope to come back again in the future... maybe even see more kangaroos! Write again soon mum, I promise!

Goulburn, NSW, Australia - 19th August 2013
By: sararingham
Today we took another drive and visited Goulburn... it's a bit of a halfway stop for people in the country to drive to Canberra, which is the capital of Australia... and located about an hour to 90 minutes from Goulburn... and about 2-3 hours West of where I'm staying in Nowra.
We didn't stay long in Goulburn though - just got a few photos and had to continue on as we had quite the drive ahead of us... however, Goulburn has one very interesting thing. The Big Merino, which is just a big sheep... if you were to visit it, they have a gift shop on the inside of it and to the side of it... as well as some steps, where you can walk up to the head and look out the eyes. The eyes even glow a green colour at night... which is kinda weird looking - but doesn't make for good photos when visiting at night.
So here's one of Australia's \"big\" things... there's quite a few more - but this is the one that we drive past more frequently than the others! I'll update again soon!

Hyams Beach, NSW, Australia - 3rd September 2013
By: sararingham
Today we decided was a good day to visit the beach... and even more of a good day as it's not tourist season yet, so the beaches aren't (as) full of people as they can be in the Summer months... we visited the world's whitest sand beach... Hyams Beach!
What is hard to take a picture of is how fine the sand actually is... it's so fine that when you walk in it, it squeaks under your feet and is nice and cool throughout much of the year... until you hit the Summer months then it's hot like any other sand is... it's surrounded by gorgeous blue water, and the bay which houses 90 resident dolphins... so you can see dolphins from the beach sometimes when you're sitting and relaxing in the beautiful atmosphere...
We stayed only for about 2 hours before having to head back - but man, it's a good place to really just lay down and not think about anything at all! When we got home to Nowra... Sara looked out in her bird feeder and spotted a very colourful bird - a king parrot. They're gorgeous aren't they? Write again soon!

Seven Mile Beach, Australia - 22nd September 2013
By: sararingham
We woke up super early this morning... as Sara had a family member, who at the moment is lucky enough to be studying in Sydney (from Boston) came down to Gerroa for a surf school... which is about 30 minutes North of Nowra... so we decided to meet up with her to go get some breakfast. No real photos for us during that event... but afterwards, we visited for the first time in so many years - Seven Mile Beach.
It's a very gorgeous beach, and all but deserted for the amount of space and sand the beach covers... we were able to sit and relax in the sun for a little bit before realising we needed to head back. Fun fact - this is actually the first beach Sara visited after coming to Australia... so it was definitely nice to be back! However, not visited as often as it is more of a surf beach, which means the water is a lot colder than it is in places like Jervis Bay, where it does tend to be much warmer...
Write again soon Mum!

Nowra Post Office, Australia - 14th April 2014
By: sararingham
Hi mum! I'm sorry I haven't updated in a long time... in between my host getting a job and her camera breaking (while on location to do another update) we just haven't had the time to go out as much as we would like to... however, I was glad I got to see some of the things I've been able to see here and I'm ready to travel onto my new location. I'm being sent off in a black padded bag all the way across the world and hope I'll get there soon! Write again when I arrive! Miss you!
Oh, Sara also was reminded of the water lilies task... although it's not wild water lilies, here they are... they have some in their fish tank so decided to take a photo with me with them as a farewell present before I was sent off. See you soon!

TABRIZ - KANDOVAN, Iran - 23rd August 2014
By: ipuenktchen
uiuiuiuiiiiiiiii... after a flight during the night with a stop in istanbul we reached in the very early morning at 4.30 tabriz and ipuenktchen was waiting for us at the airport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how exciting!!!! the two ladies has to wait for their visa, but I was still in the bag and nobody understood I was there.. and this was ok for me!!!
arriving at ipue's she let me have a walk in the garden, coz it was long time I hadn't any fresh air and living outside....
the same day when after a power nap at ipue's we had a nice breakfast, and after a small walk downtown we went in the afternoon about 60 - 70 km to the amazing village KANDOVAN, a place were ppl are living really in the mountains, they built their houses from the tuff-stone-mountains.. a bit like in goereme in TR.. but here ppl are still living there!! even recently they built a *****hotel there... this seems a bit silly in ipue's opinion, but tourists like it, and so the 2 ladies asked for a night in this hotel, and so we did for them!!
first of all we entered a cave in front of kandovan, where ppl got hidden in olden times when jangizkhan and his men made ppl afraid for.... in kandovan itself we had a nice walk in the crazy area!!!!!!!! but in the late afternoon after a break ipue and me we returned to tabriz!!! kandovan is far from every citylife a very lonely place!!!!

KANDOVAN - Isl. Island - Urmia Lake, Iran - 24th August 2014
By: ipuenktchen
in the morning our driver picked us up at ipue's and we went again to kandovan to bring the two ladies to the islamic island, a peninsula of urmia-lake, a salt-lake, similar to the dead sea!!! as well as it is a very sad theme, the lake got dried more and more during the last years... ipue told us even it was a resting place for thousands of flamingos in former time, but now - nearly no water... and they built a bridge - too late... but the landscape is beautiful as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pls have a look!!!!!
I had a great day, too, coz my TV-buddies had been with us!!!!!!!!!!
