Remscheid, Strunkis Garden, Germany - 23rd July 2013

By: Strunki

Hi Mum,

safely together with HelmutBluepant, Charlotte, Mefito and the little Oink I reached Remscheid yesterday evening.

Today, after a huge rain-shower, Helmut showed me the first impressions of his garden.
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6258_zps9989461f.jpg
At first we sat in his favourite flower, the potted poppy-blossom

Then we walked through the garden
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6261_zpseb733781.jpg
Here he showed me the ox-eye (daisy) [Buphthalmum salicifolium]
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6277_zpsab7c22d4.jpg
Lots of blooming at the moment

At another place stand the Hemerocallis (in German Taglilien)
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6262_zpsb91d56bc.jpg
Very dark red, I think
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6272_zps2e6d5fdc.jpg

Then we made a little stop at the bank in front of the gardenpond
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6259_zpsa9369730.jpg
A lot of waterplants are there
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6260_zpsc094b4b4.jpg
The main plant at the moment is the water soldier [Stratiotes aloides], Helmut told me, that the larvas of the dragonfly use it for coming out of the water after some years of growing and hang themselfs at the leaf tips to hatch out

The next station was at the summer lilac [Buddleja davidii]
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6264_zps98f3d4f8.jpg
Woow, the fragrance is..wooow :p
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6269_zps2a031adc.jpg
Even a rare yellow one I find here
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6265_zpsec321695.jpg

Helmut is also very proud about his Agapanthus
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6266_zpsc58f1b4a.jpg
He told me that this plant would not bloom every year without the right hibernation
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6268_zps8d269f17.jpg

He also showed me the nice rose-bushes
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6274_zps12322b35.jpg
this one has even a nice fragrance
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6273_zps29a8e00a.jpg

Here we sit in one of the appletrees
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6263_zpsbe548e73.jpg
Helmut likes plants with eatable fruit :cyclops: ...me, too :p

This is the reason why we find a lot of red raspberry bushes [Rubus idaeus]
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6275_zps8d784ec5.jpg
We nibbled a lot of them
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/23-07-13%20Gozer%20und%20Helmut/Foto6276_zpse58f364b.jpg

That was my day in the garden here
See and hug You, Mum

Wuppertal-Barmen, Germany - 27th July 2013

By: Strunki

today we made a little walk through the pedestrian zone of Wuppertal-Barmen
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6323_zps52b9eb49.jpg
Here we start at the beginning. Behind me You can see a station in old style of the suspension railway (Schwebebahn), but in the holidays it doesnīt drive, because of the huge renovation that lasts almost 10 years for the whole railway...

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6316_zpsa6c89fee.jpg
One of the nicer pre-war buildings there. A lot of houses were destroyed in WWII and the houses they built up after it, are only functional, but not very nice...

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6311_zps36cd6f99.jpg
This is the formerly "Hall of fame" , built at the end of the 19th. century. Now its "the house of the youth" and sometimes bands playing there.

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6324_zpsbaa8cb9a.jpg
Here we play with 3 huge bronce turtles. They have their home in the pedestrian zone and are very popular, almost by the kids who want to sit on them.
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6327_zps695a2d57.jpg

This is the town-hall of barmen, built in the late 20ths of the 20th century
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6291_zps5b8e7fc4.jpg

And bronce-animals again, but much older, here as colums of large lanterns
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6292_zpsbb1d0f9f.jpg

Here we sit on the basic of one of them
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6297_zps106a6596.jpg

And we met "Tuffi"
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6285_zps07c0bce0.jpg
He is very famous here, in the 50ths he jumped out of the suspension railway and fell into the Wupper. Nothing seriously happend to him
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/26-07-13%20TVS%20in%20Barmen/Foto6286_zpsa30687a3.jpg

That was our little walk

Love and hugs to You, Mum
Yours

Remscheid, Strunkis Garden, Germany - 1st August 2013

By: Strunki

Hi Mum,

today we were witness of a very rare spactacle: Another selenicereus grandiflorus opens his blossom tonight and we watched it in the garden
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6335_zps63518af5.jpg
This is the half open blossom at about 21:00
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6332_zps161f5c84.jpg

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6339_zps74ebdca6.jpg
And here half an hour later
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6341_zpse75a20f3.jpg

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6344_zps812f7640.jpg
The blossom is almost open at about 22:00
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6347_zpsc89cbba7.jpg

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6352_zpsa1ccc79d.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6357_zpsb16495ab.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6363_zps591db169.jpg
Now at about 23:00 the blossom is fully open
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6349_zps96cfb8ef.jpg

What a great event
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6362_zps97950a3e.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6370_zps06637fac.jpg

And this is the closed and faded blossom in the next morning.
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/01-08-13%20Seli/Foto6376_zps2c15ac72.jpg

See and love You mum,
bye for now
Yours

Remscheid, Strunkis Home, Germany - 9th August 2013

By: Strunki

Hi Mum,

today we made a contest who of us is able to do the ballet split with the most elegance :cyclops:
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6447_zpsd74aecea.jpg
I can tell You, Lotte didnīt win the contest :cyclops:
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6445_zpsde9d520e.jpg
Helmut did brave his best, but his legs are too short for doing it elegantly...
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6446_zps62f7391d.jpg
I was surprised, the plushies choosed me as the winner, I would do it in a very accurate manner B)
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6448_zps008133d1.jpg

Then suddenly an envelope arrived us
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6449_zpsb2a60bf4.jpg

We expect Laika, who was sent by mcdaniels
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6450_zps74a0811f.jpg
Helmut cut the envelope very carefully with his garden shears

We heard a thin voice tellling us, that her name is Laika
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6451_zps9bddb26f.jpg

What a cute and friendly looking doggie
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6455_zps2e0aa311.jpg

Then she came out of her envelope
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6456_zps1d9f3167.jpg

And we gave her a warm welcome and hugged her
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6457_zps6d4a4daf.jpg

And she showed us the postcard Mefitos Mum wrote
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6458_zps38bb7880.jpg

Then we sat together, enjoying the yummy gumbears mcdaniels gave Laika with her for us
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6459_zps47299e2b.jpg
And we had a nice evening with listening to Laikas adventures
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6460_zpsfd7dcee6.jpg
Mefito was asking her a lot about his home and she told him that almost is all right at home
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/09-08-13%20Laika%20Ankunft/Foto6461_zpsff29eb14.jpg

What a wonderful meeting with the little Laika
See You soon, Mum

By: Emjay

Wow, Gozer, who would have known you are such a talented ballet dancer! Such a macho man as you are! Well, ballet is not for softies, as you know. It is a heavy sport. So you don't need to be embarressed  ;)

I'm proud of you! Your mum Emjay

Weert, Netherlands - 10th August 2013

By: Strunki

Hello Mum,

You never guess where we have been today: We went to Weert in Limburg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6472_zps4de35b43.jpg

They have some very old canons standing there
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6496_zps940fe13e.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6498_zpsec34fd4d.jpg
And we liked playing in and on them

Nice houses I saw in the pedestrian area
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6523_zps6a25d897.jpg

And a tavern called „De oude Munt“ in the passage
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6528_zpsb719a94a.jpg

Nice shops like a shoemaker
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6518_zps97e66b5c.jpg
They even have shoes in plushie-size :cyclops:

A water pump for horses perhaps and nice old buildings again
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6545_zps26e75d47.jpg

Here is even a purveyor to the Royal Household
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6549_zpsac41b3fc.jpg

Later on we had fun on a slide
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6475_zps22cfa664.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6476_zpse3f8d920.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6477_zps206c19b6.jpg

And like this little Fiat Bambino very much
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6535_zps80e9e1fd.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6533_zps10aced77.jpg

Then we looked for something to drink
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6465_zpse265165b.jpg
And to eat
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6491_zps73e44973.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6492_zps8a9a3fba.jpg
French fries perhaps?

O.K., we looked for something other, much more typical for the region
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6499_zpsb73d5482.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6500_zps6735633c.jpg
A trappist beer and the famous bitterbollen with mustard
It was very yummy :p
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6510_zps131d2f82.jpg
And I liked the beer very much
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6513_zps202ac41d.jpg
Ouups
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6514_zpsbd85badf.jpg

What a nice town, Weert
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6539_zps292f208e.jpg

On our way back we visited the old Windmill „Aurora Molen" near Baexem
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6554_zpsf3c4ea3a.jpg
Very nice, built in 1845 and restored a few years ago
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6559_zps2a3725f5.jpg
But there was no beer or something to eat and we went back to Remscheid
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/10-08-13%20Weert/Foto6564_zps7fc7c852.jpg

Wuppertal, Botanical Garden, Germany - 18th August 2013

By: Strunki

Hi Mum,

today we went to Wuppertal and visited the Botanical Garden there
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6628_zps478a04f0.jpg

Today and on Sunday they celebrate a colourful summer fair around the Elisentower
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6639_zps27ac0fc7.jpg

And this is the Elisentower itsself
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6645_zpse9f6ee90.jpg
Formerly built as a windmill in the 18th century, a rich industrial magnate bought the area around the mill and built up his villa there in the 19th century. And he upsized the windmill tower to have a better view on the landscape of the valley of the river Wupper.

First we started our tour and looked at the booths with handcrafted objects
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6634_zps6bb2e93e.jpg

Then we visited the botanical garden itself
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6670_zps351b2d34.jpg
Here parts of the old villa used as orangerie
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6671_zps1a979e15.jpg

Look at the wonderful Lotos flower
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6660_zps42914704.jpg

Here are some more impressions of the garden
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6736_zps5ff05382.jpg

One of the two ponds with nice water lilies
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6741_zps443fc81a.jpg

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6738_zps16b13168.jpg

Even bananas they have in the warmhouse
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6748_zps85034248.jpg

Here You can see the tower again
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6737_zps0349af93.jpg

And here I am on the tower :cyclops:
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6651_zps5e4cf66a.jpg

O.K. this is not the real tower, but a good size for us plushies :D
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6655_zps537c6dcc.jpg
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6656_zpsab720874.jpg

Now we are in the real tower
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6690_zpsbf73e81c.jpg

What a nice wooden ornament on the floor
http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6688_zps5ca53d09.jpg

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y436/strunki/17-08-13%20Elisenturmfest/Foto6689_zps95cf81b8.jpg

So letīs see what us expect outside

Mettmann, Neanderthal-Museum, Germany - 1st September 2013

By: Strunki

Hello Mum,

today we made a trip into prehistoric times and went to a famous place near Düsseldorf called Neandertal. There for about more than 150 years Dr. Carl Fuhlrott found relicts of a prehistoric human and he called him "Neanderthaler"
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/01-09-13%20Neanderthalmuseum/Foto7042_zpsb2d9b0f9.jpg

Here he welcomes us very friendly
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/01-09-13%20Neanderthalmuseum/Foto7093_zpsae7e766f.jpg

A small scene how they perhaps lived?
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/01-09-13%20Neanderthalmuseum/Foto7059_zps7370d0ad.jpg

But letīs see what we can learn from the prehistoric humans outside
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/Achims/01-09-13%20Neanderthalmuseum/Foto7118_zps7e67343f.jpg
Here a reconstruction of an oven from the late stone age
