And now we are going to the National Stadium in Warsaw. From the Castle Square we are going down the escalator. These stairs were the first escalator in Poland and constituted one of the main attractions of the capital. They were donated by the Soviet Union and opened in July 1949. Stairs arose in connection with the construction of WZ road, in the years 1947 - 1949. The stairs are located in the tunnel linking Avenue "Solidarity" with The John's tenement located close to the Castle Square. The whole mechanism of the stairs was made by the Soviet company Metrostoj and consisted of three parts of a length of 30 meters. Stairs can be inferred on the "top" 20 thousand people per hour, during which time they can return ten thousand of people. During the decades of exploitation the stairs several times broke and in June 1997 complete closed. They opened after extensive renovations, in July 2005. Original equipment stairs partially scrapped, partly put to the Museum of Technology and the remainder retained in the basement of the building .
