Elmshorn, Germany - 8th February 2014

By: Miss-Cynical

Hi Mom,

we're at the MOVIES again! :-)
Wow, we are going to see The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug in 3D!

YumYum ... Popcorn!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/movies1.jpg

This 3D glasses are way too big for me!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/movies2.jpg

Look, it's Gandalf and the Dwarfs! And me on hostmums knees ...

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/movies3.jpg

The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug the dragon. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring and then ... oops, hostmum tells me not to spoil the entire story ... Sorry Mum, will tell you later!

Good night!

Hi Mum,

how are you? We just did a short trip today and we passed a sculpture made of bicycles - this is a campaign by the local citizens for a cycle track. Looks nice, doesn't it?

St. Margarethen, Germany - 10th February 2014

By: Miss-Cynical

Hi Mum!

Today hostmum took me to grammar school in St. Margarethen and we met Celine.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/school1.jpg

Celine is 10 years old and I really liked her (and she liked me, too)! Hostmum helps her to improve her reading skills. She meets Celine at her classroom once a week and they read books together, play word games and other nice things. And today I joined in!

I could listen to a mysterious story about a secret garden!

Here are more pictures from my "school day":

Wilster, Germany - 10th February 2014

By: Miss-Cynical

After school we drove to Wilster - here you can see me in front of the old Wilster Townhall.
This half-timber house was built in 1585 - today it is a museum.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/rathaus1.jpg

On our way to Heiligenstedten we stopped to visit the "Honigflether Schöpfmühle" - a small mill that was build around 1850.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/hf5.jpg

Hundreds of these special mills have been built in this region in the past - they didn't grind corn but transport water from the lower levels up to the fields. This is one of the few mills that still exists - and full functioning!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/hf4.jpg

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/hf6.jpg

Here I'm sitting on one of the vanes ...

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/hf3.jpg

Here's some information on the mill - you can read everything about the mill here.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/hf2.jpg

Bye for today!
Hugs

Glückstadt, Germany - 12th February 2014

By: Miss-Cynical

Hi Mum,

today we made a short trip to Glückstadt. Here you see me overlooking the river Elbe.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/wisch.jpg

On the other side cars queue up for the ferry from Glückstadt to Wischhafen - the ferry crosses the Elbe and connects Schleswig-Holstein to Niedersachsen.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/wisch2.jpg

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/map.jpg

Here's one of the lighthouses in Glückstadt (Oberfeuer), this one is located more than 1 km away from the lighthouse on the coastline (Unterfeuer).

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/oberfeuer.jpg

Then we passed an advertisement for a new shop in Wilster - very "wolfish"! It's a shop for children's clothing.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/woelflein.jpg

At home I found a postcard with the Schleswig-Holstein song and tried my best to sing it ...
Hostmum was not amused ;)

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/song.jpg

Good-bye for today!
Hugs, Hemming

Beidenfleth, Germany - 14th February 2014

By: Miss-Cynical

Hi Mum,

Happy Valentines Day!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/VD.jpg

Today we went down to the river ...

Here's some information about Beidenfleth. The village was first mentioned in the year 809 when a meeting between Karl der Große and Danish King Göttrik took place here! That's impressive!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf2.jpg

Here's a memorial stone that informs us that the first ferry connection between Beidenfleth (here) and Bahrenfleth (on the other side of the river) exists since 1620!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf1.jpg

The ferry's name is ELSE and she's back in service after all the cold and ice for two weeks.
ELSE is on her way to pick us up - you can see the ferry behind me.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf3.jpg

On the ferry - overlooking the River Stör

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf4.jpg

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf7.jpg

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf6.jpg

Tina, the ferry(wo)man, is hostmum's neighbour - so we are allowed to visit her in the drivers cabin, where I can examine the controls of the ferry.

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf5.jpg

Me - having fun on ELSE!

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf8.jpg

http://www.spidercity.de/div/hemming/bf9.jpg

Bye - love you!

Stuttgart, Germany - 15th March 2014

By: blubb

Hello Mum,

Today host mum and I started early into the day. We slept until 8 a.m. (it is not so long for a saturday) and then we drove a few miles to Stuttgart fair grounds. Today there was the "Retro Classic" fair. There you can see lots of old vintage cars and tractors.  Host mum loves those things and the Retro Classic is the biggest fair for vintage cars.
It was crowded. I have never seen such so many people. But on the other side I saw such nice cars and tractors. Even the big old tractors I liked it most.

Yours,
Hemming

Denkendorf, Germany - 20th March 2014

By: blubb

Hi Mum,

Today we started into spring and the weather was great outside. The first time with short sleeves!! We had 24 degrees and that's amazing for the end of March.
Because of the weather, host mum decided to colorate wool by herself. She showed me and Bella Blue how it's gonna work. It was exciting. After she colorated the wool she went it into microwave to fix the color on the wool and then, she brought it outside for drying. Look at those colors!

Have a nice weekend,
Hemming

Plochingen, Germany - 15th April 2014

By: blubb

Hello Mum,

Host mum and I went to Plochingen yesterday. It is located at the confluence of Fils and Neckar, 19 km southeast of Stuttgart and the Neckar is navigable from here on. Plochingen is a nice little town, and the town hall is famous in the surrounding area. Maybe you have heard about Plochingen because Friedensreich Hundertwasser has build the "Hundertwasserhaus". I did not see it this time, but host mum promissed, that we will come back soon and then I will see the Hundertwasserhaus.

I saw the old town hall and the nice mermaid fountain, the library and finally I had to smell the spring flowers. Mhhhhh.

Yours
Hemming

St.Gallen, Switzerland - 8th March 2015

By: Jasper

Hello everybody
Today I visited St. Gallen.
St. Gallen is the capital of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It evolved from the hermitage of Saint Gall, founded in the 7th century. Today, it is a large urban agglomeration (with around 160,000 inhabitants) and represents the center of eastern Switzerland. The town mainly relies on the service sector for its economic base.
The main tourist attraction is the Abbey of Saint Gall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its renowned library contains books which date back to the 9th century.

This is the Town Hall - located next to the train station.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers%2015%20006_zpsjs6q1sdb.jpg

From there we walked to the "City Lounge" or as people call it - Red Square.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers%2015%20011_zps1u1qvzn3.jpg

Around the new building of Raiffeisen Bank, the outer region has been redesigned by two artists.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers%2015%20012_zpsftfiaseq.jpg

The lounge is a kind of public living room.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers%2015%20021_zpszm22ki1y.jpg
