Midsummer

We are celebrating the midsummer with family, blue & white flowers and delicious strawberries 

The sun will set tonight at 23.15 and it will rise again at 03.23. The twilight (actually very light) will last only for 2 hours. We call this time of the year "nightless night" or "the white nights". My host's favorite time of the year

Old Church of Petäjävesi

One Unesco WHS is located only 30 kilometers from this home. Today we visited this beautiful wooden church of Petäjävesi. http://www.petajavesi.fi/kirkko/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7&Itemid=4&lang=en

Visiting grandparents

Today we also visited the grandparents somewhere on the countryside. They live in a beautiful house in the middle of the forest, near the lake ans surrounded by birdsong. They are very camera shy but I can tell you that grandfather talks a lot ( jokes, politics, just name it) and grandmother is a great cook!

Concrete crafts

Two days ago me and my host participated a concrete crafts course. Today we went to take home what we had done. I am surprised how nice plant pots and tea light cups we made

"First Day of the Summer Holiday!"
said host and took me to Jyväskylä ridge (lots of stais  ) and to a lovely, old restaurant for lunch. We had smoked reindeer-cheese soup 
We stayed there long because we had lots of postcrossing cards to write

On a country road

Today we took a walk on a beautiful country road. We went there to take birthday photos of the family's 13 years old daughter

Two weeks break...

My host will travel with her family to somewhere for two weeks. Somebody needs to stay at home, water the flowers and collect the mail. Together with Bisma we volunteered to stay at home. On one condition: we want to have ice cream every day! It's a deal 

So, you will hear of me again after 2-3 weeks!

Meeting pandas

I met two pandas of this town. First one is a shop called MoiPanda! = HelloPanda!

Then I met the chocolate factory panda. He is a real GIANT panda!

3 churches

Now that my host is back home we wanted to go out to see some churches  On the way we saw a new street name that did not exist bebore and some unknown traffic siggns. It was funny! And a piece of art  In the beginning it was raining a little so we took out our umbrella.

Town Church
Jyväskylä's Town church was completed in 1880. It was designed by architect L.I. Lindqvist. The Town church was the first in Central Finland to be built of stone. The church was originally built next to a market; nowadays it is surrounded by a park, Kirkkopuisto.

Taulumäki Church - church of angels
Taulumäki Church is the principal church of Jyväskylä city parish. The church was completed in 1929 according to plans drawn up by architect Elsi Borg. The church is known as the church of angels due to the many depictions of angels found there. The church, built in neoclassicist style, is a long church with a west tower over 30 metres in height. Taulumäki Church can hold approximately 700 people.

After running from church to church we wanted to rest our feet and taught it was a good time to go to a library. I found books of pandas

Walk and coffee break

What a beautiful day it was today! We took a walk once again on the beautiful island of Naissaari. And had a cup of coffee. This time with some salty pie

In the forest

With the whole family we decided to take a walk in the forest. After rain it was so fresh and green  We saw many kinds of flowers and plants and even some bugs. We picked mushrooms and ate blueberries. We walked along many kind of paths and finally came to a lake. What a nice walk it was

We went to the movies

Today we wanted to see a new film. We went to the cinema to watch "Despicable me 2". Take a look how great time we had! Such a fun movie

Cycling, longboarding and mini-golfing

Today was sunny and warm so we decided to spend the whole day outdoors. We found many interesting things to do. And we saw a man flyboarding -how cool was that! This is the beginning of today...
