Travelog for: Freya

Balingen, Germany - 15th October 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mommy,

I've arrived at my new host mom's home! Actually I thought I could make it the whole way, but my wings were a little too weak, so I checked in at the post office. It was much more comfortable to travel in a travelope, no cold wind, no rain, no hungry birds on their way south...!

The first thing I heard when I arrived was a weird sound. I've never heard something like this before. It was a low voice, and it sounded like neighing. And then I knew! This must be Hotte Hü! And I was right. He released me from my travelope and gave me a big hug! We immediately liked each other, I think we'll become very good friends :-)!

Then I had to explore my surroundings. I found a wonderful little palm tree. Hotte wanted to come with me, but he's not able to fly,so he had some problems to get on top of the palm... I waited patiently for him!

But now it's time to relax - the lamp is a wonderful place for that ;-)!

See you!
Freya

Balingen, Germany - 24th October 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mom,

we had such wonderful weather today, so we decided to go for a walk in Balingen. There a some very old buildings, such as the Zollernschloss. It was originally built around 1430 by the Earls of Zollern-Schalksburg, but completely reconstructed in 1935/36. Today it is a museum for scales and weight and a youth hostel. But some spooky stairs going down are still there -  I can feel that halloween is approaching...

The Zollernschloss is located at a small confluence of the river Neckar, called Eyach. Of course I had to take some pictures there :-)!

Yours, Freya

Cologne, Germany - 31st October 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mom,

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! We went to Cologne for the weekend, as we were invited to a wedding there. Therefore we did not have a lot of time to do sightseeing, but we managed to take at least a few pictures.
We went by underground, saw the Cologne Cathedral and also had some Halloween costumes. I think Hotte and me looked quite funny, didn't we?

Spooky Halloween kisses to you!

Saarbrücken, Germany - 6th November 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mom,

this evening we went to an Italian restaurant called Fellini. On our way we passed Saarbrücken’s town hall, a really impressive building.
The food in the restaurant was sooo good, and this is also the reason why I missed to take a photo with it. I ate so fast because I was so hungry…!

After that we went to the cinema. We had ordered the tickets before, so we did not have to hurry to get there. We watched the new James Bond movie, Spectre! Oh it was such an exciting and thrilling movie, it was really good! You also have to watch it, mommy!

Bye for now!
Your Freya

Albstadt, Germany - 12th November 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mommy,

today was a big day for me! I was allowed to attend host mom to her school. She's a teacher and she's already explained a lot of things to me. We went there very early in the morning and could therefore watch a wonderful sunrise.

When we arrived at school, host mom showed me different biological structures and models:

I learned the structure of a flowering plant and a honeybee. Then I was shown some exhibits of insects - there I also saw some dragonflies - this was sooo spooky! Please mommy promise that you never do this to me!!!

Then I did some funny stuff! I crawled into a seashell, borrowed the shell of a tortoise, got caught in shark's teeth and analyzed a humans skeleton - but no worries, it was a fake one  :)!

Afterwards I did some research with the microscope and read some interesting facts about insects. Did you know that dragonflies are called "flying artists"? I was very proud of my kind  B)!

After school I was very tired - sooo many facts to learn today! So I enjoyed the nice, warm weather and relaxed!

Love you mom!

In the forest - Swabian Alb, Germany - 15th November 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mom,

what a wonderful weather today! We decided to go for a looong walk into the forest. It was pretty cold, but I played around with my dog-friend Aris a lot, so I got warm again :). Aris showed me his favourite places, such as the little birdhouse. Unfortunately there was nobody at home...
Then I climbed a raised hide, it was exhausting, but the view up there was definitely worth it. When I walked on, I passed an anthill, however my insect-friends did not show up - what a pity...! I think they're already sleeping!

Host mom says that winter is about to come as the wind is freezing cold, so I enjoyed the sunshine to the fullest and was sooo happy when I found some last autumn flowers. They were so beautiful, but most of them were faded and brown  :(. I'm already looking forward to spring B)!

Bye mommy! Your Freya

Blieskastel, Germany - 23rd November 2015

By: Phiva

Hello mummy!

Watch me, today I'm a happy, little Freya in big business, because I went to the office with host dad. There, I was allowed to support host dad in a lot of very important actions. First I had to organize a lot of meetings and call a lot of persons with my new headset :). Moreover I created some Excel calculations and sent it to the big bosses. Then I was sooooo tired and, after drinking a cup of coffee,  I had to relax a little bit in chill out area. All in all, it was a very exciting and hard day, and now I enjoy the evening with host dad in Saarbrücken.

Ischgl, Austria - 28th November 2015

By: Phiva

Hello mum,

jiihaa, I was allowed to go with host dad to the Ski Opening weekend in Ischgl in Austria. Such a nice place with a lot of snow, sun and so many party people. I enjoyed this weekend very much and was a full member of the party group. Moreover host dad told me that we will come back to this beautiful place at the end of December to celebrate New Year's Eve :)! Here are some first impressions from the Ischgl Ski Opening weekend :)

Balingen, Germany - 1st December 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mommy,

a small parcel arrived today! Hotte and me were sooo curious, we couldn't wait to open it! So we looked for big scissors to open it properly and as fast as possible!
I caught a glimpse into it first and realized that it wasn't just a parcel - it was a travelope! Then our TV guest crawled out and we got to know Karakolak, a dog from Russia. Hotte and me asked him a lot of questions and he was very friendly and told many stories from his home country.

Later host mom gave us some caps, because it's getting cooler and cooler every day! We look so good with our caps, don't we?
So now we're ready for winter, St. Nicholas and Christmas :-)!

Yours,
Freya

Balingen, Germany - 19th December 2015

By: Phiva

Heyhey mommy!

I guess spring is about to come! When we woke up this morning we heard the birds singing and felt the warm air! The budgies also felt this spring feeling and therefore were very lively and chatty. So I flew over to their cage and had a chat with them, too.

Then I saw this beautiful blooming orchid and I had to take a deep breath with its wonderful flavour.

Of course we had to go outside into the sunshine. Host mom gave us some sunglasses to protect our sensitive eyes. We also went up to the Christmas tree - and it looked so mistimed there! It only looks nice when it's dark outside...

I can hardly believe that it's still winter!!! But very very soon we'll set of for winter-wonderland ;-)...!

Yours, Freya

In the forest - Swabian Alb, Germany - 20th December 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mommy,

woooow I couldn't believe the thermometer when I saw how warm it was! Okay, the sun was somehow shining on it , but HELLO it's December! And therefore it's winter – or that’s what I thought until now...

Yes is was a very warm day although it's the fourth Advent today. So we decided to go for a sunny walk into the forest. Our dog friend Aris was with us and showed us around. He knows the woods like nobody else!
He showed us some hidden tracks and wonderful clearings, where you could actually put a sunbed and relax with a lovely little cocktail ;)! Then we played around and played a game of fetch. Aris is incredibly fast and agile, so it was very exhausting for a small dragonfly like me :D!

As the weather is so warm these days, we even found some blooming flowers and mushrooms. Aris told us that he had never seen blooming flowers or mushrooms in December before!
When we passed a deers’ feeding ground we saw that it was empty. Of course it was, they can still get some fresh food!

The sun was already setting when we went home, we still had some work to do ;)! We wanted to make some Christmas decorations. We designed some tealight holders with a hot-melt gun. As you can see we did it very well and host mom was very happy with the result. Do you also like it?
After that we had to take a little nap, we very sooo tired. So we cuddled up to Aris – he’s a wonderful heating machine ;)!

In the evening we sat together and relaxed around the Advent wreath!

Love you mom!

Phiva's home, Germany - 23rd December 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mommy,

today is the day of decorating the Christmas tree. A tree without any trimmings and tinsel is just a boring creature, so we had to change that immediately.
We took the candels first and put them onto the tree. Thus we got a bit closer to our perfect Christmas tree. But there were still some parts missing! So we looked for the Christmas tree balls – they were silver and glittering and wonderful. Aris supervised this whole action and also helped to put the balls in the right place.
When we were done with our Christmas tree project, we were very proud of ourselves. Don’t you think we succeeded?

Love, Freya

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOMMY!

After a wonderful day of doing absolutely nothing but relax, and a wonderful Christmas dinner, it was Christmas Eve and therefore time for gift giving. Hotte brought a big parcel wrapped in gift wrapping paper. He said this was the present for Karakolak and me from our whole host family. We were sooo curious about it, we hardly couldn’t wait to open it. As we had unwrapped it, we saw a big white box – it looked very expensive… And even when we opened the box, we could not see what it truely was.
But then we saw it! We were given some pendants for our necklaces! They are heart-shaped and red, so lovely! Of course we put them on right away!
Hotte also said that these pendants will always remind us of him and our host family. What a lovely present!

I hope your Christmas Eve was as awesome as ours!

Hugs & kisses

On the way to Ischgl, Austria - 26th December 2015

By: Phiva

Hi mom,

we’re going on holiday – yay! Ischgl here we come! Host mom said that we should take off our pendants for this holiday, because it’s gonna be both a sportive and a party trip, and therefore we could easily lose it there…!

We started very early in the morning, as we had heard that it will be a day of arrival for many people at the skiing regions. Fortunately we didn’t get into any traffic jams and arrived in Ischgl quite fit and relaxed after about three hours of driving.

Having checked in at our hotel, we enjoyed the wonderful view out of the window. We had a perfect view on the party locations and the slopes of the valley run. In order to bring us into the right mood, host dad opened a nice bottle of champagne  - oh wooow this tasted so good! I don’t think this was the last bottle we opened ;)…!

Now I’m very confident that this holiday will be very funny ;)!

Love, Freya
