somewhere on the way to Bavaria, Germany - 1st September 2007

By: fam-united

Finally we are on the trip to the Bavarian Forest. We will stay in a hotel for two nights and I hope to see as much as possible.
Right now I'm playing with Sabrina and the other toyvoyagers, which are going with us on this trip.

We had a little break with dinking coffee and eating a "snowball" and Kari and I had been allowed to go with my hosts and their family :)

Walhalla, Germany - 1st September 2007

By: fam-united

After a long long while we left the freeway to have lunch at the Walhalla. Because I was so tired after my "snowball", Kari wanted to show you, where my hosts were with the other toyvoyagers ;) I prefered to sleep under Sabrina's jacket.

It was an idea of Crown Prince Ludwig I. of Bavaria in 1807. It was meant as a place for the commemoration of great figures and events in ethnic German history, at a time covering 1800 years, beginning with the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (9AD).

Kollnburg, Germany - 1st September 2007

By: fam-united

Wow, we were so tired and happy to see these beds in our room. We jumped out of the bag and on the beds. I'm not sure, whether you see me. I'm on the last bed in front of the window.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1057/1416654020_c38e75480c.jpg?v=0

Unhappily our hosts meant, that they would sleep in the beds and we should sit and sleep on the windowsills :(

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1240/1416660258_b1ef6d7678.jpg?v=0

While Petra and Sabrina went swimming, we cuddled together, because it wasn't that warm so close to the window

Arnbruck, Germany - 2nd September 2007

By: fam-united

After a very tasty breakfast we started off to visit the "Weinfurtner Glasdorf".

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/1427593797_5444d6eccd.jpg?v=1190556852

In the park was a water wheel. I saw Tux, who wanted to jump into the water, but brrrr - water is wet and I don't like that.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1167/1427751707_9af3163aec.jpg?v=0

Then we went into the shop. Alfie Langer found that ball and we thought we could play a match, but Petra told us, that this only is a lantern made of glass :(

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1131/1427751713_34f7dad0dc.jpg?v=0

Upstairs in the store we found this crib. I'm sorry, that you can't see it very good :( It stood in a room, that was more a room for meditation than for shopping.

Arbersee, Germany - 2nd September 2007

By: fam-united

In the afternoon we visited the Great Arbersee (lake). This lake is one of three lakes in the Bavarian Forest. On the Czech site of this big forest is the Bohemian Forest with five more lakes. The Great Arber is the highest peak of the Bavarian-Bohemian-mountain rigde, with an elevation of 1456 metres, while we were on 935 metres. We unhappily couldn't see the Arber, because the weather was too foggy.

Since 1939 the area around the Arbersee is nature reserve area. Each year 1/2 million of visitors come to see the lake.

Bad Kötzting, Germany - 2nd September 2007

By: fam-united

On the way back to the hotel, my hosts and other members of their family visited a house, while we had to stay in the car. We didn't know, why we weren't allowed to go with them, but when they came back, they carried "big" boxes and seemed to have a lot of fun. We had to realize, that they were in a distillary shop and tried some of the bottles, before they bought some. (of course they only sipped, because they didn't want to have problems with their heads - whatever they wanted to tell us by saying this).

Regensburg, Germany - 3rd September 2007

By: fam-united

We all are a little sad, that it is time to say good-bye and drive home again.
At last we want to visit Regensburg.
Regensburg is located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers. To the east lies the Bavarian Forest. The old town of Regensburg is Unesco World Heritage.

The first settlements in Regensburg date to the Stone Age.

Bruchsal, Germany - 21st September 2007

By: fam-united

Finally my host Petra showed me the palace and the Belvedere.

Here you see a part of the rosegarden, which belongs to the palace.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2131/1505442597_4f1136640d.jpg?v=0

Here you see the backfront of the palace. It was destroyed during the second world war and rebuilt during the 70th.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2094/1505442607_796766c78f.jpg?v=0

This is one of the statues in the palace garden. There are four statues showing the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. And four other statues show the four elements: water, fire, air and earth.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2267/1505442621_e5f026f716.jpg?v=1192044953

Here is a pond with many ducks. Especially kids love this place.

Here is the beginning point for a guided tour through Bruchsal.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2091/1505442635_67a2a4cd17.jpg?v=0

This building is called "Belvedere". It was a former hunting lodge and now it is a place for open air theatre.

Untergrombach, Germany - 21st September 2007

By: fam-united

Untergrombach is one of the suburbs of Bruchsal. Here we are on the "Michaelsberg" (hill) and have a wonderful view over the Rhine valley. On the first photo you see a part of Bruchsal in the background. Petra's parents live close to the wood.
As young girl she loved to swim in that quarry pond, but since she is married and has kids, she prefers to go to the swimming pool of Bruchsal. In the background you see the hills of the Palatinate.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2351/1506313110_713204eeeb.jpg?v=0

This chapel stands on the top of the Michaelsberg and it is called Michaelsbergkapelle (chapel)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2058/1506430850_264b9c9866.jpg?v=1192044904

On this photo you see a part of the Kraichgau hill country. Bruchsal lies at the border to the Kraichgau and Rhine Valley.

Bruchsal, Germany - 21st September 2007

By: fam-united

Here we are back in Bruchsal. The building you see here is the old slaughterhouse. Nowadays a part of it is a restaurant and a place for comedy shows. Ralf and Petra, my hosts, like to go there. Funny!
Also you see on the photo, that Bruchsal has parts belonging to the Kraichgau. The first photo with the view to Bruchsal (in Untergrombach) showed a part that belongs to the Rhine valley.

Bruchsal, Germany - 30th September 2007

By: fam-united

Today we played soccer. It's not so easy to play "sit-soccer" (that's how my hosts call it).

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1123/1463061741_1023efd9dd.jpg?v=1191166967
At first everyone sat on the place, where he or she was supposed to be. You only had been allowed to move on the place by turning around, but without walking. Alfie Langer was the referee. He was the only one with a real soccer shirt.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1255/1463064659_6fbbf699b9.jpg?v=1191167182
At once Tamalyn tried to score, but Elisabeth did a good work and

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1310/1463064663_36fc18506a.jpg?v=0
just jumped to the right place and caught the ball. But then her punt was bad and luckily Bongo got the ball. He tried to score, but I was just at the right place to defend in front of Tux, who was our goalkeeper.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1349/1463064673_21c62a8532.jpg?v=0
At the end of the first half we still played 0:0, but of course we had some chances for the first goal.

Start of the second half
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1362/1463064683_1277b6b608.jpg?v=0

Somehow Glory fell. I know, that I didn't hit her or something.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1313/1463064685_df6b83fb81.jpg?v=0

Small Fry nearly shot a goal after that, but Tux was such a good goalkeeper and caught the ball. Glory fell again, maybe she already was very tired, she is so tiny.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1392/1463068187_33c99dfe1f.jpg?v=0

Here Tamalyn got the ball and tried to play to Glory.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1006/1463068197_97ff3b211d.jpg?v=0

Small Fry got the ball to play, but had no chance to score.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1055/1463068205_7c86177024.jpg?v=0

After a while Alfie Langer had to talk to Dottie Grace, who complained about something I didn't understand.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1144/1463068217_acbfa8d6a4.jpg?v=0

1:0 against my team!!! Thanks to Dottie Grace!!
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1090/1463068227_0f7cc022cb.jpg?v=0

And then a silly thing happened, but this was a big luck for my side. Bongo and Small Fry tried to catch the ball with their bodies, but they had no luck.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1408/1463068233_5959692d64.jpg?v=0

Elisabeth jumped to the right side of her goal, but the ball rolled into the goal on the left side. :)
So at the end the result was 1:1
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1080/1463926086_ffc74b1225.jpg?v=0

After the match we danced around the ball, because we were happy that nobody had lost in this match.

Vienna, Austria - 10th October 2007

By: ChristinaB

Decker safely arrived in Vienna, Austria today. He had a warm welcome from Daisy the little cow from Hungary and from Kleo, the italian doggie-girl and he was happy to find another lion here: Leonhard, a 6-year-old boy living here.

Vienna, Austria - 13th October 2007

By: ChristinaB

Decker went sightseeing in Vienna for the first time today. Unfortunately the weather was rainy so we only had a short walk in the park of Schönbrunn castle. Decker was very impressed by the castle and all the fountains and statues he found in the park. He was very excited to hear that there are real lions living in the zoo of Schönbrunn but since it was rainy we decided to go there an other day. We had a look from Gloriette (which is the point of view in the park situated on a hill) down to the city - the view was amazing! ;)

Decker also saw a "Fiaker" in front of the castle - something very new for him. But he liked these horses with their carbage alot!
