Ames, Iowa, USA - 7th June 2008

By: wourpet

We finally made it to our destination but first we got a little bit of bad weather.

In Nebraska I got excited because we were coming to a Fort.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3611.jpg

It was Fort Kearny but what we were seeing was the great Platte River Road Archway in honor of the wagon trails that converged here.

Then we noticed damage where a tornado had gone through and as we drove we had storms circling all around us.

We got out for a bite to eat and watched the storm moving in.  It was very hot and very humid.  We arrived in Ames quite late.

Ames, Iowa, USA - 9th June 2008

Well the storm followed us right into Ames and it has rained and rained and rained.  Today there was a little break in the down pour so we went out for a drive on Highway 69.  Many of the highways are closed because of all the water.  It is flooding everywhere.

It looked like there was a lot of lakes here but these were supposed to be corn fields.  You could see some corn around the edges in places but mostly you could see ducks and geese swimming in the corn fields.

Little Wall Lake, Iowa, USA - 10th June 2008

By: wourpet

Yesterday wourpet was apologizing to us because everything was so wet and we said "Hey, you are talking to a frog and a duck here" so today she took us to a real lake instead of the flood.  The lake is a glacier pool called Littel Wall Lake.
Little Wall Lake is near Jewell, Iowa.

We are back at Ames and today we went to Severin Kennels where they raise goldens.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3627.jpg

The first one we met was not a golden but was very friendly.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3628.jpg

Then we met some of the dogs.  The names were Drakie, Wishes, Zoom, Lennie, Niam -- oh gosh I can't remember them all so here are some pictures.

We even met some Goldens that were like us but they said they don't get to travel quite as many places.

Des Moines, Iowa, USA - 13th June 2008

By: wourpet

Finally we are heading back to Colorado.  It looks like we might go through a few miles of wet cornfields.

The National Guard convoy was ahead of us heading into Des Moines to help with the flooding there.

Omaha, Nebraska, USA - 13th June 2008

Heading west from Des Moines we drove away from the flooded cornfields and didn't see much sign of tornado damage either. It looked like it would be a nice drive.

We drove through Omaha and Lincoln, the State Captital, as we made our way west.

I wanted to go for a balloon ride but it wasn't a real balloon.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3672.jpg

We both fell asleep and wourpet woke us when we were getting close to Ft Kearny again.

The Platte River Archway is in the Book called "1000 things to see before you die" and I saw it!!!

Wourpet says this is where the real west begins.

Of course she said she could see the mountains now too.  All we can see is cows.

As we pulled into Denver I could see the mountains.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3581.jpg

And then we started to climb them.

We stopped for supper at Georgetown.  This is a historical old Victorian town.

Grand Junction, Colorado, USA - 28th June 2008

By: wourpet

Today when we went out to play wourpet told us we had to be careful in the back yard.  Then we noticed something was happening.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3752.jpg

The grass had been rolled up into balls.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3753.jpg

We decided to investigate and found the spot where the grass used to be.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3754.jpg

Finally we found the machine that had done it and since we were so smart -- and figured this out -- we got to drive the machine.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3755.jpg

Another big machine was digging a ditch but we stayed back from this one.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3756.jpg

Then the water pipe was put in the ditch and everything was all put back again.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_3757.jpg

After such a busy day we went down and hung out at the river for awhile.

Grand Junction, CO, USA - 3rd April 2010

By: wourpet

Hi Everybody!!!  Its been a long time since I was on here and updated my travelog but you know what?  I haven't been traveling for a long time.  I have been doing lots of stuff around the house and yard and spending a lot of time reading but I stay at home.

Today a TV arrived for a visit and I got to meet Fibro-Duck and look at his travel journal.  He also told me about Fibromyalgia.
