Travelog for: Sylphide

Jardin des Plantes Toulouse, France - 18th June 2007

By: Mistigree

Hello !! Youhou !!
I'm Sylphide, a young elf !! I'm new to the site and very impatient to travel ! Let me tell you how I discovered how to become a ToyVoyager...
Some weeks ago, I was in the "Jardin des plantes" in Toulouse, a beautiful garden, where I like to spend my time... I was playing leapfrog with Philéas and Monsieur Kicks, 2 friends of mine, when suddenly a kind of blue moose approached us and entered into conversation with us. He told us he was not a moose, but a "bramaboula", whose name was Sébastien. He was looking for his likes, but didn't know how and where to find them. According to Philéas who knows much about animals specimens, he had no chance to find some of them here in France. Then, Philéas told us there was a website, ToyVoyagers.com, where humans are hosting toys in different countries. He thought it could be a good way for Sébastien to travel without having to seek for food or sleeping, and that he will maybe meet others "bramaboula" during his trips abroad...
We talked a lot, seated in one of the Jardin des Plantes little train carriage.
It gave me an idea : why couldn't I travel around the world too ? It's now a long time since I've been living here in Toulouse, and I would like to meet others fantastic creatures as me !! So I went to the CyberCafé, I registered myself on the site and here I am !
Here, you can see Sébastien, Philéas, Monsieur Kicks and me in the train carriage.

After Sébastien left us, I released a book on the carriage seat. It was a children's book about gnomes. I like to scatter books here and there ! It is called Bookcrossing and it's very funny and friendly ! On 23rd June, there is a big meeting in Nice (you know, on the French Riviera !) that many French Bookcrossers will attend... and guess what ??? I'll be there too !!! KanaPoutz who lives there kindly offered to host me !! When you'll read this, I will probably be on my way to Nice !

I hope there will be some games in Nice... I can not spend a day without playing !! I'm fond of toboggans and child's swings !! My dream is to visit amusement parks, to go on carousels, ghost trains, roller coasters and much more !

I like gardens, statues and fountains... This one is in the Jardin des Plantes, it seems to represent 4 nymphs... I wish I had a fountain with my effigy too !! Is there a sculptor among the ToyVoyagers hosts ready to create one ?? ... Well... I'm not sure I'll be patient enough to pose during hours (or maybe Alpina could teach me as she's a famous model !)

I like flowers... they smell so sweet !!! Sometimes I discreetly enter into people's garden at night, just to admire their flowers... I wish I could meet the Queen of the Bees so that she teaches me how to gather pollen and make honey !

Botanic, Jardiland, Toulouse, France - 18th June 2007

By: Mistigree

Sometimes, when the weather is too bad or when it rains, I find shelter in Botanic or Jardiland. These are shops where humans can buy flowers, seeds, green plants, trees... I've got some friends working there and I like to visit them... They were so happy for me when I told us about my aim to become a ToyVoyager !

Nice, France - 21st June 2007

By: KanaPoutz

Hello! Finally I get some time to tell you all about my first stop!
I arrived in Nice in this really small box, thankfully I had a book to read to pass the time! Mistigree sent some sweets for KanaPoutz, and I really had to control myself not to eat them, and I didn't!

It was nice to stretch my legs and my wings after the trip.

Nice, France - 22nd June 2007

By: KanaPoutz

I arrived in Nice just in time for the MBC (MegaBookCrossing), a gathering of bookcrosser from all around France, and even a couple from Germany!
I was really excited to get to meet so many people, and to get to attend this big release event!
KanaPoutz had 14 books of her own to release, and she also received some from Spain and Italy, so there was quite a pile!

There was this book in Italian I started reading (yes, I can read Italian!), it looked interesting.

Nice, France - 23rd June 2007

By: KanaPoutz

There we are! The big day!
In the morning when it was still quiet, I got to meet Pookie! He's BCer EnigmaGryphon's friend, and also the mascot in Nice!
We swapped lots of BC stories. I was really glad to meet him, and already sad that we would only spend 1 day together, but that's what being a voyager means! Pookie was moving to Brittany a few days after the MBC, maybe I'll get the chance to visit him there?

Then it was time to go, and i was ready!

Nice, France - 23rd June 2007

By: KanaPoutz

After a walk around the old town and meeting everyone in various places, we went to have our lunch. It was a very nice restaurant in a small street, it's called Lou Fran Calin and serves typical food from Nice!
Look at the plate of starters!
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1134/651206397_0ef7fcc7b9.jpg?v=0
And those things that look like chips : they're not! They're made with chickpea flour, like the traditionnal Socca.
It was all delicious.
This is a photo with me and a plate of Socca, that was the day after the MBC :

Here is me and the BCers I had lunch with!

After lunch we had an other walk around the old town, and then we made our way to the castle hill, where we were going to release all our books!
Here I am in front of the artificial waterfalls, it was very refreshing on this hot day!

I was looking for a nice place to release my book, and I found this great spot overlooking the sea.

After 2 hours on the hill, we were all happy to meet at the top and sit down to get a nice cold drink!
Not everyone had arrived yet when we took this photo :

The BCers are all so friendly, I'm glad I'm part of this and I hope I will meet more of them all around the world.
This is CurlyClochette, she lives in Nice and is a good friend of kana's.

I also got to meet Tigrou, he is also travelling around, but always with Toflabeuze, this is all 3 of us :

This fantastic day ended with a picnic on the beach in the evening : takeaway pizzas and lots of drinks.
It was a bit cold because of the wind, but we were all happy to be together!

The day after the MBC, besides eating lots of Socca, we walked around for a bit, and everyone was really tired.
So we went to the beach, and I kind of fell asleep while the others were in the sea...

It was windy again, my wings were flapping around!

Well, that was a great week-end, and it took us a few days to recover...!

Ardèche, France - 30th June 2007

By: KanaPoutz

Hi here I am again, ready to tell you more about the things I've been doing!
On the 30th June, I went on a trip with Kana and some friends of hers! We went to the Euro Jeep Camp : it's a European gathering of Jeep owners, for 3 days. This year it was taking place in the Ardèche.
So off we went, travelling with this big Jeep! This is taken on the motorway (it took us 4 hours to get there)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1026/753150253_be8577a271_m.jpg

Then as we were getting closer, we were on smaller roads, and there were lots of sunflower fields! I just love flowers and these are really wonderful!

Ardèche, France - 1st July 2007

It was quite hot there, I was glad that I got this Jeep cap to protect me from the sun
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1198/753150479_a33f53a7e7.jpg?v=0

During the week-end, we went on several trips with the car, going through the forest or the hills. Lots of Jeep cars!

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1074/753150493_7779a920fb_m.jpg

Kana and here friends did some kayak down the Ardèche river for a short time, but I didn't go with them, I'm not that fond of water...
The scenery was amazing, here is the Pont de l'Arc, a very famous landmark
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1189/754023526_de1b6c000e.jpg?v=0

We saw a few signs in the area advertising honey sales, but unfortunately we did not have time to stop, si I could not check it out to find out more about honey making and all that...
