Laufen, Switzerland - 29th July 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

My name is NicePeter and I'm a small monkey from Switzerland!

I'm usually very nice and easy going, as my name suggests ;)

One of my great passions is music, as my mum plays a few instruments which are great to listen to!

I am looking forward to my travel around the world to complete my missions and to see many friendly people!

Love,
NicePeter

Laufen, Switzerland - 31st July 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we're in Laufen. Here the whole old town has been decorated and lots of booths where you can eat, drink and dance for the Swiss National Day fireworks. The Swiss National Day is the national holiday of Switzerland, set on August 1. It is an official national holiday since 1994, although the day had been suggested for the celebration of the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy as early as 1889.

I'm not on the picutre, because then we would have had to use the flash and it would've ruined the pictures.

Étang de la Gruère, Jura, Switzerland - 1st August 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we went to the étang de la Gruère, a small lake in the Jura range near Saignelégier. The lake and the surrounding bog is a nature preserve. The lake was formed in the 17th century, when a dam was built for a mill.

We sat down relaxing at the shore and feed ducks, which came really close.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8152/7692249650_0f092cb2c0.jpg

The view was just fantastic and I enjoyed to lay in the shade.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7250/7692270248_445f1094a4.jpg

Even tho the lake is a nature preserve you can swimm in it, which at this day many people did. In winter, it usually freezes and you are able to skate on it as well :)

Basel, Switzerland - 3rd August 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today I accompanied my mum to work. She works in an office you can pretty much compare to an employment agency, but the people which get hired are all doctors and scientists. They people at the office all came to say hi to me (that is the ones who were there, as almost half is on holidays at the moment), but they were too busy to pose for a picture with me.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8285/7702719322_212a343f39.jpg

"Hello, you're talking to NicePeter, how can I help you?" ;)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7263/7702721696_1943b32731.jpg

And this is the view from the office.

In the back you can see the Basler Münster and the Floos.

The Basel Münster is one of the main landmarks and tourist attractions of the Swiss city of Basel. It was built between 1019 and 1500 in Romanesque and Gothic styles. The late Romanesque building was destroyed by the 1356 Basel earthquake and rebuilt by Johannes Gmünd, who was at the same time employed for building the Freiburg Münster.

The Floos is a stage floating on the Rhine which attracts many spectators for more than 7 years now. For a few weeks every night from 8.30pm or 9.00pm onwards you are able to see various bands and singers from Switzerland and abroad.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8282/7702713176_b396c6636a.jpg

On the other side of the Rhine you can see the "Les Trois Rois" (engl. "the tree kings" as the tree wise men are called in German and French). It's probably the most elegant and most expensive hotel you can find in all of Basel and around. Compared to it, the Hilton looks like a youth hostel  :p

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8150/7702715698_566857fde2.jpg

Until next time!

Love,
NicePeter

Grindelwald, Switzerland - 7th August 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we got up really early. We packed our bags but weren't told where we're going to.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8286/7738422908_9d2f279a55.jpg

First we stopped in a coffee shop for breakfast. Lovely croissants with jam, hot chocolate and orange juice, yum!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8285/7738418758_413713045e.jpg
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8144/7738415554_f7dee0c4df.jpg

Then it was back on the road again.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8427/7738412446_caa70878f1.jpg

After a while we could see mountains in the distance..

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7129/7738407182_9b34a9b19d.jpg

And then we arrived: in Grindelwald, where it was really warm :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8426/7738404718_090cdbf9a2.jpg

We were going up a mountain called Männlichen with the cable car.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8430/7738401404_1c9573b6fa.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8431/7738398100_f836f24c56.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7132/7738384382_d748729bc0.jpg

On top we had a great view onto the mountains.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7113/7738380692_54a81284ca.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8425/7738374060_956f18b630.jpg

It was a long way down..

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8286/7738377812_da64aeae54.jpg

And then we started the hike to Kleine Scheidegg. It takes about one hour to get there and it's a very comfortable hike considering we're on top of a mountain. No steep descents or ascents. We even met some cows along the way.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8427/7738370808_975ff95ccc.jpg

After the hike we arrived at the Kleine Scheidegg. We could've continued up with a cog railway all the way up Jungfrau but we decided not to, as it was very cloudy up there and we wouldn't have seen anything. So after a hearty "Holzfäller Znüni" (swiss = lumberjack lunch) we took the railway down and went back home.

We played a little hide and seek in the flowers...

Laufen, Switzerland - 23rd August 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we were able to help PieksiHH with one of his missions: to eat cheese in Switzerland.

There are many different kinds of Swiss cheese. I've learned that the next time I am talking about Swiss cheese, I have to think about which Swiss cheese I actually mean.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8282/7845284038_54d1fd869c.jpg

But I still love bananas better!

Augusta Raurica, Switzerland - 26th August 2012

By: melik90

Dear all,

Today we've been in the old Roman town Augusta Raurica. It's actually called Augst now, and a small town not too far from Basel. It's known best for its Roman archaeological site and an open-air museum. We went to a Roman sitting room, where we played a small version of Nine Men's Morris. My host mum won most times, but she says it was just dumb luck.

Marktplatz, Basel, Switzerland - 28th August 2012

By: melik90

When one enters this impressive piazza, the first thing that catches the eye is the colourful Town Hall (Rathaus). However this piazza still plays a key role in the lives of Basel's inhabitants today. The market that takes place here every day of the week is a welcome addition to the grocer's and greengrocer's shops elsewhere in the city centre. Lovers of good food can find delicious local produce on the market stalls, as well as many specialities from the region, Switzerland and the entire world.

Laufen, Switzerland - 1st September 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we stayed at home because it was horrible weather outside. It rained all day and we even had flashes of lighning now and then.

My host mum showed me something very interesting: to knit! At first I thought it very complicating, because she uses very strange wool,  but soon I got the hang of it. Within a few hours work we made a lovely scarf.  :D Everyone helped a little:

First Finfin...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8182/7931132342_8721e20517.jpg

...then PieksiHH...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8304/7931141272_ef43704369.jpg

... and then me.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8178/7931148944_65a2a6abe3.jpg

In the evening we sat at the window watching the rain.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8170/7905073606_a160234d96.jpg

Then we read a good night story and called it a day.

Laufen, Switzerland - 11th September 2012

By: melik90

This evening a strange parcel arrived. We heard something nibbling inside...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8450/7984699960_6334873ef1.jpg

It was Tokki! He's a Canadian bunny who came to visit us from his last destination in Germany with beelicious.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8446/7984692979_890a34cdd7.jpg

We gave him a big welcome hug and showed him our pace for the night, as it was already very late.

Lot's of love,
NicePeter

Laufen, Switzerland - 16th September 2012

Hi all,

Today we watched a movie called Changeling. It's a drama with Angelina Jolie based on a real story.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8304/7992735629_b9a59eb950.jpg

It made us a bit sad but we all got chocolate to cheer us up again! :D

Laufen, Switzerland - 18th September 2012

By: melik90

Hi all,

Today we received a new visitor, Ape Apina. He's a monkey originally from Finland and came to us from Spain.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/8002408848_1ee5a80ffc.jpg

Concidentially he's not a stranger to our Tokki, they've been together in Finland in Spring 12 already!

We all gave him a big welcome hug!

He showed us the route he took from Barcelona, where he was last.
