Remscheid, Germany - 11th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
I arrived in Remscheid today. This was a rather short trip! I am not the only ToyVoyager here. There are also Emma Squirrel, HolgiHH, MiniMarshmallow and MuhKuh. My host Katja and all TVs gave me a warm welcome.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8460/7976981146_a2c47bc993_o.jpg

My host was happy about the present I brought with me, the "Sandmaennchen Wine Gums". She loves stuff like this :D She said she had never seen them before in a shop here.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8311/7976981276_a3760ff0b4_o.jpg

She promised that tomorrow we will taste them. When I toldmy new friends about me and Mrs. Magpie, Emma Squirrel promised to help me find Mrs. Magpie. While I will search under the trees, she will climb into the trees and have a look. There is a park just in front of my current home, maybe Mrs. Magpie is hiding there.

Remscheid, at home, Germany - 12th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
the weather here is rather bad, so my host decided to decorate the walls in the living room. She moved to this apartment in July and did not finish all the painting works. Today was the perfect day to do it :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8038/7981891934_0faa5708a8_o.jpg

With the help of o stencil we painted roses onto the wall.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8302/7981887923_813170e77a_o.jpg

Have a look at the result!

Gelsenkirchen, ZOOM Erlebniswelt, Germany - 14th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
today we made a fantastic trip to Gelsenkirchen in the Ruhr area. We visited a zoo there, the ZOOM-Erlebniswelt.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7987750996_4aee3804c4_o.jpg

This zoo is specialized in animals from Alaska, Africa and Asia. The whole area is divided into three parts. We started our adventure in Alaska.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8036/7987751062_eafdb2e785_o.jpg

We found a hut like the one of a trapper.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8454/7987745169_e92ec2f05b_o.jpg

My host could have spent hours here with the raccoons :D They are extremely cute.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7987745251_52de1e1f0a_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8296/7987745333_80c0bd98b7_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8451/7987749334_4cc9049a48_o.jpg

Nobody has to starve here.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8033/7987743497_6fe9169ecf_o.jpg

We saw several bears here: Grizzly bears, Kodiak bears and polar bears. Can you also see what I saw in the bear enclosure?

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8039/7987751294_6b6147a7b5_o.jpg

Magpies!!!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8437/7987751370_746b9a1c97_o.jpg

They must have been completely insane to get so close to the bear! I hope my girlfriend would not be so careless. (Indeed the bear did  not care about them at all.)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8171/7987751450_8a4d4a1c7f_o.jpg

The bear was separated from the visitors only by a thick glass panel.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8455/7987751502_1517e89d59_o.jpg

We entered Africa  than!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8319/7987745685_4e6dc975a2_o.jpg

It is so cold today that I prefer the comfort of a heated apartment to those huts :D

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8448/7987745771_467122999c_o.jpg

The lion was very lazy behind his glass panel.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8436/7987745815_c003bd7fce_o.jpg

Zebras and antilopes were much more agil than the dozing lion...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8438/7987743957_f3203edb7c_o.jpg

... as well the giraffes.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8322/7987749920_f8bcf301f0_o.jpg

Those monkeys were living free on a small island.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7987745871_a4ddbd0808_o.jpg

We entered Asia than.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8451/7987745939_0fc040d311_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8448/7987746009_d22410ed0a_o.jpg

Here we also found a typical hut.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8300/7987750104_15316f397a_o.jpg

Those cute quailes were also living free in a large enclosure like a greenhouse. They are the smallest galliformes in Europa.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8442/7987746061_45f61cfe32_o.jpg

We had a lot of fun with those monkeys, gray langurs. They were playing endlessly in their enclosure, chasing each other and climbing and jumping from their ropes and nets.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8457/7987746131_0c870db20a_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8298/7987752074_97eaabc875_o.jpg

What a fantastic trip! And I even met friends of Mrs. Magpie.

Remscheid, Germany - 16th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
after attending a birthday party and eating far too much we felt an urge to take a walk in the late afternoon. First we went to the municipal park, only a few minutes to get there. On our way there we came along those nice dwellings.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8295/7995627331_28266620aa_o.jpg

This is the police headquarter with a little park in front of it.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7995627503_32286a7404_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8302/7995634684_69b974f9b2_o.jpg

We went to the municipal park than. In the entrance area you can find the observatory.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8298/7995627607_6b7df3ab74_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8032/7995627695_7e655df516_o.jpg

We enjoyed the lovely weather.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8295/7995635156_2bfbdfe019_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8321/7995635220_5f19168cfe_o.jpg

We left the park to reach the historical district Hasten. Here many lovely old houses remained after large parts of the city centre of Remscheid were destroyed in WW II.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8451/7995628083_ef46715bba_o.jpg

There are calm streets to live in .

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8443/7995628175_a1b6ff97e3_o.jpg

I like those traditional houses with their green shutters.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8458/7995628273_d3bf01af5b_o.jpg

This Patrician villa was built in the late 1790 years. Nowadays a museum is situated in the building.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/7995628359_f26fb65c9f_o.jpg

The German Tool Museum (Deutsches Werkzeugmuseum) is also situated on this estate. Here you can see some of severeal outdoor facilities.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8439/7995628717_4787497366_o.jpg

This looks like some kind of weird instrument of torture :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8311/7995635974_d0072fe609_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8445/7995628867_78b87d0eeb_o.jpg

Another calm residental area ...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8182/7995636202_c0526eac63_o.jpg

From here we had a good overlook to the green surroundings of Remscheid.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8322/7995636312_e0c30a09ec_o.jpg

Remscheid is an old industrial city. You can often find industrial complexes - often historical ones - among dwellings. This is a famous producer of car seats.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8454/7995629167_853520cdd4_o.jpg

We decided to take a longer way home, through another park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8312/7995636490_7dcc275d22_o.jpg

My current home is in the house just beyond the park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8441/7995636622_3a69e9e629_o.jpg

Now I am hungry!

Remscheid, Germany - 19th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
we took a short walk in the late afternoon in the surrounding forests, most of them are nature protection areas.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8454/8005454771_b71d7ebba3_o.jpg

Summer is over now, have a look at the fruits of a plane tree.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8042/8005457554_4679d697f2_o.jpg

The path was following a railway track for some time.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8299/8005457656_d90e7115a0_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8305/8005454983_c852f95be1_o.jpg

Once more we walked through a housing area with those lovely houses.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8322/8005455039_c7a4d819b9_o.jpg

We had to hurry home than, it started to rain again.

Remscheid, Germany - 20th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
today we visited friends in another district of Remscheid, it is called "Luettringhausen". We could have taken the bus, but we preferred to get there on foot, through a valley and a forest.

We left home.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8031/8008575162_b0646bed66_o.jpg

We walked through a housing area. In the background there are already the green surroundings visible.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8295/8008457721_6b06481620_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8032/8008457783_3aa4ab9f62_o.jpg

The city centre of Remscheid is situated on top of a hill. The slopes of this hill are rather steep. Of course there were houses built, but also lots of allotment garden areas, like this one.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/8008457839_ce6b222a4f_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8460/8008463554_97e1220ced_o.jpg

We reached the valley than. Along the creek which formed this valley industrialization began in  middle ages. Even nowadays you can still find industrial sites here, here a steel works.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8317/8008463606_6900b5a323_o.jpg

We left the streets to follow another creek.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8305/8008458065_ec792d9df1_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8169/8008458131_da4c4f6913_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8312/8008458209_4448305ae4_o.jpg

When we reached a forest we only had  15 minutes more to walk. Can you see the encircled "R" on the tree? This sign is marking a walking train which is running along the border of the municipal area of Remscheid, about 64 km long.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8041/8008463870_4966ba4e82_o.jpg

We reached our destination. This motor-bike belongs to the husband of Katja's friend.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8304/8008458323_b0dc4572f8_o.jpg

Next time I must show you the ferrets. They are so cute and hoggish :) They often share their food with me.

Remscheid, Germany - 27th September 2012

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
we had almost two weeks with really ugly weather. It was cold als also raining the whole day. Today it was a bit better, so we took a walk in the city centre when our host had her lunch break.

First stop was the city hall, originally built in 1906, than partly destroyed in WW II and rebuilt afterwards in a more modern style.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8033/8029439798_c768d6f9a4_o.jpg

There is a pillar on the large place in front of it, showing a lion, the heraldic animal of Remscheid.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8042/8029439572_390cb55797_o.jpg

The shopping  mall ...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8453/8029439996_aae10a679e_o.jpg

This is the theatre,

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8453/8029440176_381d71a82c_o.jpg

The shopping street ...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8180/8029444775_96c9a644c6_o.jpg

... and the central bus station.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8174/8029440818_c53be75d14_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8029/8029441018_d73b3c9e02_o.jpg

I saw a wall which was covered with lovely read leafes.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8031/8029441202_f88335c38a_o.jpg

We went towards the central station, here several larger buildings were built in the last ten years.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8314/8029445623_b7956525e1_o.jpg

The whole station area was rebuilt from 2007 until about 2010.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8041/8029441662_87fb71296f_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8316/8029441952_e9e13a6591_o.jpg

Back in the city centre Katja showed us this funny fountain.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8318/8029442130_56e51f5ff8_o.jpg

This is the main entrance of the shopping mall with the tower of the city hall in the background.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8035/8029442436_6c91db6d17_o.jpg

At the end of the pedestrian area you can find this statue, two large forceps. They are a symbol for the tool producing industry here.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8310/8029442598_5846e11e40_o.jpg

There is a water tower close to the city hall. The silhouette of Remscheid with those two towers close together is visible from all the surrounding cities.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8171/8029442900_8c4a843ca6_o.jpg

On the right side of the next photo you can see the parking and loading zone of the shopping mall.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8036/8029447285_fb16bf5521_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8038/8029447625_02ae122e96_o.jpg

We had to return to the work place than.
