Jyväskylä, Finland - 12th July 2012

Hello!

I was walking outside today. I saw a nice small park. And there I saw this statue of Uno Cygnaeus (1810-1888). He is considered the father of the Finnish public school system.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4Km0UIZKZYA/T_8e44j41PI/AAAAAAAAOMA/WM1tHq0_xjw/s640/023.JPG

And because the boy in the statue is reading, I feel like I want to read something. Kurnau show me the local library building.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n5MWooSnqkc/T_8ezDfAMFI/AAAAAAAAOKo/CFBZsX1KUXk/s640/012.JPG

There's so many books!!!  :o
Even more books are outside the photo.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7sYpkMYrCbs/T_8gaj4Rb9I/AAAAAAAAOTE/nAddhe6p3Ho/s640/100.JPG

There's an art statue in the library building. This one is called "Tiedonpuu" ("A tree of knowledge"). It has made in 1980.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uEEd0Z7FApY/T_8giBnbtuI/AAAAAAAAOUM/zr-ZkuMXlNk/s512/111.JPG

And there's also a nice exhibition about the history of Jyväskylä-city, the dolls are showing things about this town's developement.

In 1850's Jyväskylä was a small town with many craftsmen.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jvKmsFhAsjo/T_8fzenpcUI/AAAAAAAAOW0/E-EN-hvGpXA/s507/077.JPG

In 1860's Jyväskylä was important city in the civilization and education in Finnish language.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-1htcFrm8Y8M/T_8fz59SiTI/AAAAAAAAOW4/kYuPYMqRnUU/s593/078.JPG

In 1900's came first railways, and it helped making connections to the World.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XfEQPotbs6M/T_8gQJsStpI/AAAAAAAAOXA/rDnyVwb8PO0/s512/084.JPG

In 1910's industrialization grows and became more and more important.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-f9rQDksRs5k/T_8gQHZgP7I/AAAAAAAAOXM/hPGgFKInZss/s512/088.JPG

In 1940's Jyväskylä was important supporting hometown during wars.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--_vi2XVN34I/T_8gP_sTTdI/AAAAAAAAOXU/MRqg8uBIFk0/s609/091.JPG

In 1970's trafic grows fast, and it was necessary to build bigger and better streets.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LRNlPVvy7bQ/T_8gRsCxRRI/AAAAAAAAOXg/toDbFEw8JDw/s512/093.JPG

In 1980-1990's the activities of free-time got more popularity.
(And by the way, ice hockey is very popular activity in Finland, and Jyväskylä is the current Champion in Finnish ice hockey.)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MURwZmOEkCk/T_8gRd-6DTI/AAAAAAAAOXo/8S_mjkN5mBo/s512/094.JPG

In 2000's Jyväskylä became a bigger town, because some federations of municipalities has made (smaller cities joined together to became one bigger city).

Jyväskylä, Finland - 15th July 2012

By: mmm105

Hei! Hello!

Today I saw some public art works outside. They are all so unique. :)

This one is called as "Elämän koulu - vastuu, luottamus, luovuus"
In English it might be something like "A school of life - responsibility, trust, creativity"
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mhlRVua8SKs/UAMPuVCqxRI/AAAAAAAAOfg/XqJkAJzEMwg/s640/002.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZxZZ2oKi3Bw/UAMVJgJa0eI/AAAAAAAAOi0/9VpCxpaX4gg/s640/010.JPG

This one is "Karhu" ("A Bear"). The artist's name is Oskari Raja-aho, and the statue has made in the year 1930.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Dr6U-KtYc7Q/UAMPvoCdDNI/AAAAAAAAOf4/tRKwWOlLnfg/s640/013.JPG

Look, we all are riding on the bear!  ;)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d1AUl0I-rFc/UAMVWnJFyLI/AAAAAAAAOl0/i6seyKJLVlA/s640/038.JPG

This one is "Keinumieli-Tyhjämieli-Häkkimieli" and the artist is Juhani Petäjäniemi, and it has made in 1989.
The name is difficult to translate into English, but it might be something like "a mind of swing - a mind of emptyness - a mind of cage".
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TMFXw3q_oq0/UAMPwFWYikI/AAAAAAAAOfw/9AFAdBUW3Qg/s512/025.JPG

I like this statue. It looks like there's two people flying. :)
The name of the statue is "Elinehto-ajatus-liiketoiminta" and the artist is Heikki Häiväoja, and it has made in 1979.
The translation of the statue's name is "Lifeline-idea-business".
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nAvsvllOSF0/UAMPwBkrdNI/AAAAAAAAOf0/ckwmx3YCZKg/s640/034.JPG

And there's a statue "Kauppias ja apulainen" ("A Merchant and his assistant). The artist is Pauli Koskinen, and it has made in 1959.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-eTzV1JHWC0Q/UAMPxugeelI/AAAAAAAAOgM/ln7xIRJAUsM/s512/044.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-lF3ekCTUY08/UAMVZ_nLJEI/AAAAAAAAOmw/y84sh4JLR1E/s512/047.JPG

And this one has made the same artist, Pauli Koskinen, in the year 1957. It is art in the outside wall of the building. And it's name is "Reliefi"
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TLn4A38rJhg/UAMPyO2wm0I/AAAAAAAAOgU/4xCd9gN7q1w/s640/052.JPG

After walking a little there started to be dark clouds in the sky, so we turned walking back, and we hoped to arrive 'home' before it's raining...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xmYGwRAK6WU/UAMPytqZO5I/AAAAAAAAOgc/sNcCJtOQq2Q/s640/064.JPG

...But we didn't managed. It started raining so quickly.
And the  rain, it was HARD, we got totally wet within one minute.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7iBc81LV2FI/UAMP0EBM2FI/AAAAAAAAOg0/x6A7V3fGUUE/s640/078.JPG

We run back 'home', and inside it was time to get dry again, aww... :)

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Qa6GfZghvTI/UAMP0ewjxHI/AAAAAAAAOhI/BCBJQauGMHs/s512/082.JPG

What an adventure!!!

Hei! Hello!

Today I went outside to walk and look around this surroundings. And almost immediately I saw the beautiful nature of Finland, so many green coloured trees, the fresh air, and so on. Oh, it's so nice to be here!

And this is an orthodox church of Jyväskylä.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tPSm11P2uHk/UAkPOdB7dqI/AAAAAAAAOt0/nYbPWWivwOg/s512/015.JPG

And this is an evankelic lutherian church of Jyväskylä. The church has buildt in 1929, and the architect was Elsi Borg. This church has called also "the church of angels".

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5UGq71jplFI/UAkPOuSZhvI/AAAAAAAAOt4/2y5wVc29iPk/s640/029.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zLkNovmUPFg/UAkPPxcesVI/AAAAAAAAOuE/e7Jwln-FhtQ/s512/036.JPG

Then I continued my walking, and I found a river named Tourujoki. This river goes through the city of Jyväskylä. It's about 2 kilometres long river, and it goes from the lake Palokkajärvi to the lake Jyväsjärvi.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JyCYee_pccI/UAkPQ_3FqiI/AAAAAAAAOuQ/HRtYCzyuszU/s640/049.JPG

Hello!

I visited in the natural park of Jyväskylä.
It's so cool forest area just next to the river Tourujoki. It's a nature conservation area in the middle of Jyväskylä.

At first, we need to go down to the long wooden old stairs. It was exiting!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Kaseo0WlMD8/UAkuAqwGTRI/AAAAAAAAO8E/d2ABS7szjbo/s640/065.JPG

Look, how beautiful nature there is!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_W288crriQ8/UAkuAvTt9TI/AAAAAAAAO8I/B0e2RBUm3Ws/s640/068.JPG

Can you see those weird things in the tree? They are "kääpä" in Finnish, they are some kind of mushrooms growing in old trees. How cool!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LSkT_s3JMyU/UAkuAnNxkdI/AAAAAAAAO8A/XhzTl9N6jBU/s512/083.JPG

It's time to have a little brake, and just relax. :)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6qYxH5Ot-uk/UAkuCobj6EI/AAAAAAAAO8Y/M2xkJdN7nRo/s640/097.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QaKkiei7_XY/UAkuCYxEweI/AAAAAAAAO8g/7E_AfxMFqAk/s640/096.JPG

Then it's time to walk forward.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ljXAdqJxXSw/UAkuC_qSdZI/AAAAAAAAO8c/TLaR3A5izHU/s640/098.JPG

We walked on the "pitkospuut", the wooden path on the ground. There must be this wooden path, because the ground is so wet.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Anok_WdkQ2I/UAkuEcityfI/AAAAAAAAO8w/4rNGn36uh60/s512/111.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-v64AReIOR3Q/UAkuEfrqLsI/AAAAAAAAO80/ScL20NwdeW8/s640/112.JPG

It was a nice place, this small natural park! :)
