Jyväskylä, Finland - 4th June 2012

By: mmm105

Hello mommy!

It's time to say goodbye to all my friends here, because I'm leaving today. It's little bit sad to leave here, because I'm going to miss everyone, but in the same time I'm so exited to start travelling again.

Thank you hostmom mmm105, and thank you all in Finland!
I had a great time here!

I said goodbye to all other ToyVoyagers... (TV Mi Nam is leaving today, too).

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pp2nRTx8HaU/T8x9mRrg_DI/AAAAAAAAMdc/uLfRaVucs2A/s640/003.JPG

Hostmom's cat came to say goodbye, too.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-VDNYNTvqAe4/T8x9mpTnoSI/AAAAAAAAMdk/GI0yGLL5GQk/s628/002.JPG

After all goodbyes, it's time to go inside my envelope.

Bye bye all!

Vilnius, Lithuania - 6th June 2012

By: coraline

Hey, mum!
I'm in Lithuania now :) When I came out from the envelope, I saw nature around me! That's right, I first saw Vilnius outside, not inside. And my first photo was with this gorgeous flower:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/e8008e30828439e5c20ec8b09fb0410b.jpg

I also took a picture near the house. Look who's behind me - a white cat!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/2f0c164e2dcb84453d5ea60cb4bcb601.jpg

When I came to my new home, I saw my friend Porridge! I've met her earlier, when mmm105 was hosting us. She gave me a big hug :)

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/7fcec9803c83f41f37f3e76fed3709f5.jpg

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/5f6e34e1f9984a6993334a4e869ab57a.jpg

Then I saw a nice fox Húlí hútú, he also gave me a great hug and we became friends!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/0cf13fb4638a5205c3b95abeb45bce48.jpg

My new friends and my new host mum Karolina were very happy to see me. They read my letter and I showed them a postcard and chocolate bar, which came with me from Finland. Kit-Kat told me that I'll have a great time in here - she was in Lithuania before she went to Finland. I really hope to see many beautiful places in here!

Love,
Finfin

Vilnius, Lithuania - 9th June 2012

By: coraline

Labas, mamyte!
I said 'hello, mummy" in Lithuanian! I know some words now and Karolina said that I could learn more today. Can't wait! But at first, here is what I did yesterday:

Me, Porridge and Huli went to the mall "Panorama". It was quite early, so not many people walked around.

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/08ee8e5375eea50a09142d5cd1f89a07.jpg

I was sitting on a decorated bench:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/81e5b6bb60469926003823fab8410509.jpg

Then we went to another mall VCUP where we saw a poster with a first toy musieum in Lithuania! You can read more about it here. We've seen an exhibition of some of the toys from the museum's collection. I've seen what games and toys children used to play in the last decades of the 20th century!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/8bfc38c0284e699a90f03359c02cfe25.jpg

With already vintage teddy bears:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/ba1bede3383a22cf7136fb0cc01c94d2.jpg

Look at these nice drawings which were drawn by children!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/5bf20a1cee23ff8724a66ab8c0f00648.jpg

VCUP is in the New Vilnius, so when we went outside and walked on the White Bridge, this is what I saw:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/4186c8704f6402a16db652fe1961112d.jpg

We went to the park, where I landed near the small flowers...

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/4949f380fa94dcf7df0df5dece8851ea.jpg

...and then had a walk in the Old Town. I finally saw two famous buildings in Vilnius - The Cathedral and The Bell Tower! Beautiful!!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/814199b586b2fc54dfb62a93db5b3094.jpg

We decided to rest for a while in a small park near The Presidential Palace. It is located in Vilnius Old Town, is the official office and eventual official residence of the President of Lithuania. The palace dates back to the 14th century and during its history it has undergone various reconstructions, supervised by prominent architects, including Laurynas Gucevičius and Vasily Stasov.

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/36c13cd114e40de37fbaef56285d12c3.jpg

After this journey we went back home :)
Love,
Finfin

Vilnius, Lithuania - 10th June 2012

By: coraline

Hi there!
Today our host mum showed us this chocolate in the shape of Lithuania. Isn't it great? We started to explore it right away! :D

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/f7b811977ab247c58eb784cf819a77d5.jpg

Then Karolina told us some lithuanian words. Did you know that AČIŪ means THANK YOU and ŽAISLAS means TOY? I wrote something:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/d5421a992cda57971ac0889be18af667.jpg

Yep, a LADYBUG or a LADYBIRD is BORUŽĖ in Lithuania! Other friends did the same game with their names. While me and Porridge were finishing our first lithuanian words lesson, Huli thought that he could make a prank and scare us! We didn't see him at first...

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/9ee20aa6fcb1a7c242913bc7d3344f70.jpg

Almost there to scare us...

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/8d941b434ffe7bb23a1cc1d126cfe051.jpg

BOO! Gosh, I really didn't expect this!

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/dd8270046cee1fc092f2864240726ecd.jpg

Huli said sorry for his joke, because we at first seemed to be very frightened, but we started laughing right after this. We also made a funny photo with mustaches:

http://i.picasion.com/resize54/fb9b5add595388256fbe4e5402267154.jpg

That's what I did today. I guess I'm going to watch a movie or chat with my friends. I feel a bit tired now :D

Love,
Finfin

Vilnius, Lithuania - 14th June 2012

By: coraline

Hi!
Today Karolina showed us a bit of Zirmunai (in lithuanian it's Žirmūnai). It's the most populous administrative division in Vilnius. It is also a neighbourhood in the Lithuanian capital city Vilnius, encompassing the city district of the same name, built in the 1960s.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8147/7187110301_a095cb4618_z.jpg

And you know what? We are living in Zirmunai! The house where I'm staying right now is in this administrative division :) Here I'm next to the fountain:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7073/7187105435_1b46fe8761_z.jpg

This poster which we saw at the bus stop is about a great poetry writer Maironis:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7221/7372329816_a29a2c9fc1_z.jpg

And this is a very old fountain which was built in Soviet times. It's not working now. Can you see us?

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7187091179_135d215649_z.jpg

Here, take a closer look! :D

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7084/7187094101_b4b806ddef_z.jpg

It was a short journey, but I enjoyed it. We had to go to the Old Town because our host mum had to meet her friend there, and before that we stopped to take a picture near the Pranciškonų monastery:

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5470/7372343610_98afb91036_z.jpg

And that's all for today. Miss you, mummy!

Hi!
This Sunday our host mum's aunt had her birthday. We had a picnic outside and that was very cool! We went to Swedbank terrace at first:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7099/7403695372_81e4cfa15e_z.jpg

Then we decided to be in Zirmunai, near the Neris river. We helped with the food...

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/7403658268_9ceb6f9436_z.jpg

...then we were sunbathing...

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7403688064_f6406aedda_z.jpg

...even eating sushi! It tasted really interesting to me!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7403679340_0cef209c4d_z.jpg

In the evening we went back home and we were eating the cake. Yummy!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7092/7403709394_f0a18d257b_z.jpg

That was a nice day. Karolina said that this week we can go to another country for one day. Can't wait! :)

Love you,
Finfin

At home, Lithuania - 21st June 2012

By: coraline

Hello!

Today a new toy voyager arrived - it's Zed Dog! We all gave him a super big hug :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7257/7413558186_eee303bc9c_z.jpg

We decided to see what's new outside, because Karolina felt not very good today and she stayed at home. We went to the balcony:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8144/7413552564_88c94aeb10_z.jpg

We played hide and seek! Zed Dog is looking for me... Hope he won't find me soon, haha!

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5455/7413547556_73cd92c031_z.jpg

It's cloudy outside and a bit cold, so we all decided to sleep for a while.
Hugs,
Finfin

Riga, Latvia - 23rd June 2012

By: coraline

Hi, mum!
Today we went to Latvia because Karolina with her family wanted to see some relatives. It was a great journey, though it was raining in the morning. We had so much fun in the car, too!

Here we are in our new house in Riga, Latvia:

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5159/7427785270_afc16c6416_z.jpg

After some time spent talking to all aunts and uncles (they're all very friendly :)) we went for a walk in the city.
Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the river Daugava. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture!
Here we are at the Bastion Hill park:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8158/7427638028_88dbc71949_z.jpg

And these are wedding locks on the bridge. So romantic!..

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5321/7427647432_4df2181f2d_z.jpg

What a great fountain!

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5332/7427813410_bf05cfbd2f_z.jpg

Near the Latvian monument to Freedom (for Heroes killed in action during the Latvian War of Independence) :

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8003/7427678084_d0313cedb3_z.jpg

Musicians of Bremen Monument, Riga. How cool is that?
Do you know that you have to make a wish and touch all of the 4 animals noses? Not many people touch the top of it, but everyone touches the donkey's nose. You can see it from the picture (unfortunatelly, I couldn't get the 4th musician rooster in the photo):

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8021/7427694092_5f1b2a1aab_z.jpg

I found my sister! Haha, it's a Latvian ladybug :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7266/7427682666_e274c1c2bd_z.jpg

Black cat (and the rooster) are symbols of Riga, Latvia. Here I am with the kitten!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8006/7427715982_c4f2715f48_z.jpg

And here we are all in the flowers:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7135/7427718470_9eb65635d9_z.jpg

The Old Town...

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7253/7427748200_802f129d3b_z.jpg

Near the monument with my friends:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8020/7427762656_6d6f1af1b7_z.jpg

Talking about the public transport - trams are very popular in Riga!

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5280/7427779064_3aa5363674_z.jpg

We were in Latvia when they had their public holidays. June 23rd is Līgo, a day before Jāņi. It's a Latvian festival held in the night from 23 June to 24 June to celebrate the summer solstice (Midsummer), the shortest night and longest day of the year. Many people that day were wearing a "crown" made of leaves and flowers, and the public transport was free. So, we were inside of the trams, too!

We had to go back, so I stopped to take a picture in the park:

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5320/7427788802_b2609c1df0_z.jpg

It was great to see another country, even if this journey was that short. I hope to visit Latvia again one day, I liked it! After we came back from our short trip to the Old Town, we went back home to Lithuania. I was a bit tired, so I took a nap.

Love,
Finfin

Flea festival, Lithuania - 2nd July 2012

By: coraline

Hi, mom!
Sorry for not posting anything new for a while. Now I have something to show you - on Saturday, we decided to go somewhere. Karolina showed us this little piece of paper and we decided to visit "Flea festival 2012"!

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/97c2599c7a4f42c4e94927e67704eeb2.jpg

We went to Karpiškių village, near Varėna. I was looking at the plan:

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/6de47361eecf264bd414a14f0735a152.jpg

Nature everywhere! Seems that it's going to be a fun day!

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/216bcb1401e8fcbba367f8dec0833939.jpg

Here we met a lot of interesting people and animals, saw a lot of old stuff...

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/62f774af00aeed4c3d794be7cefcac8f.jpg

...ate some vegetarian food, listened to a good music...

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/06ef06d47221f898c92b1e58fd16fe23.jpg

We found a place called "Ramybės pieva" ("Quiet meadow") and went to a tea drinking ceremony. That was very interesting! We tasted different teas, such as pu erh or oolong tea.

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/8388bf9342924984cf2d93442c9e82f5.jpg

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/531180a4656bc6c8a92813cd50e69b6e.jpg

http://i.picasion.com/resize55/19d15170baefc1e40d8c18788413051f.jpg

That was a great festival! We all came back home relaxed and happy. :)

Hugs,
Finfin

Vilnius, Lithuania - 5th July 2012

By: coraline

Labas!
I said "hi" to you in lithuanian!
This evening was really nice and warm, so Karolina took us to a short trip on a bike. It was really great, though I was very tired after that - we went from our house to Karaliaus Mindaugo bridge, almost to the Old Town! :)

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Gqb_kyLfQe0/T_XX1sQWg4I/AAAAAAAAAh0/8wEM5OOy2GY/s640/2012-07-05%252018.41.01.jpg

Look - there you can see Gediminas' castle!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8XpmuxPq15c/T_XRdgMlWII/AAAAAAAAAhg/Zo-ZRFk84I4/s640/2012-07-05%252018.43.13.jpg

We stopped to take a picture next to this building (in Tuskulėnai park):

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-eCbptWuib4c/T_XjR2pcIzI/AAAAAAAAAiE/A_ZspspnqnI/s640/2012-07-05%252018.50.28.jpg

We've spent only an hour to this trip, but I liked it.

Kisses,
Finfin

Hello!
Today we celebrated a big event in Lithuania - the day when Mindaugas was crowned King of Lithuania. It happened really long time ago, at the year of 1253! Mindaugas (ca. 1203 – fall 1263) was the first known Grand Duke of Lithuania and the only King of Lithuania.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8421/7519085408_28b1819cb0_z.jpg

We went for a walk to the beach near Neris river. It was a hot and sunny day!

Bonjour!
Today is a busy day - tomorrow we are going to Nida, a sunny resort in Lithuania. It is located on the Curonian Spit. It has 1,650 residents and is the administrative center of the Neringa municipality. Nida is the westernmost point of Lithuania and the Baltic States.

Me and Zed Dog are packing our stuff:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7247/7519080782_f6ac4e84ce_z.jpg

I will not be able to update my travelog until July 13, but I hope that when I return, you'll see many beautiful photos!
