Carnival-party Weilburg, Germany - 21st February 2012
By: Noisy
HELAU and ALAAF!!!
We have seen a carnival parade, but we couldn't take pictures, we were so busy with looking for the others mascerades and catching the sweets and kissing the other Jecken and... ho, I'm happy!
When we came home, there was a little cow crawling out of her envelope. Fiete must take on a mascerade at once.
we made a polonese.
It was a funny day!

Post Office - Düsseldorf, Germany - 12th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
Hi Mum,
I just arrived in Düsseldorf and my hostmum was very pleased with the nice postcard and the chocolates! She asked me to say a big THANK YOU!!
I tried to have a look around and enjoy the view over Düsseldorf (we are on the 15th floor), but it's very foggy today and I can't see anything.
We will have the chance to do that once we're back from Prague for certain.
But now I'm quite excited, because we will leave for the Czech Republic tonight!!!
I will send some pictures soon!
Actually, Franz-Ferdinand was planned to accompany us as well, but my hostmum and hostdad are about to relocate next week and he has already been packed into one of the boxes by mistake However, I will enjoy the trip for sure!!

Prague, Czech Republic - 13th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
Hi Mum,
yesterday, we safely arrived in Prague.
Before the flight I had a cup of Latte Macchiato to fight my tiredness.
Then we climbed the stairs into the plane and took our seats.
After the check-in in the hotel I fell asleep within a few seconds.
And today I started my workday in the office
I will walk around tomorrow and send some pictures then!
Bye for now.

Wenceslas Square, Center of Prague, Czech Republic - 14th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
Hi Mum,
yesterday, we finally had the chance to have a long walk and visit some lovely and famous places of Prague!
We startet at the Wenceslas Square. It's one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia.
On the first picture you can see me in front of the famous "Hotel Evropa", a Grand Hotel where some scenes of one of the "Mission Impossible"-movies had been taken in room # 405
The second picture shows me in front of the popular "Astronomical Clock" or "Prague Orloj". The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town City Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism itself is composed of three main components: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures—notably a figure of Death (represented by a skeleton) striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months.

Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic - 14th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
We crossed the river Moldau using the famous Charles Bridge.
It's a famous historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century - did you know they used egg yolk to make it last forever!!?
The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamennż most) or the Prague Bridge (Pra˛skż most) but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870.
The bridge is 516 meters long and nearly 10 meters wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and the third one on the Old Town side. The Old Town bridge tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, originally erected around 1700 but now all replaced by replicas.
At night Charles Bridge is a quiet place, but during the day it changes its face into a very busy venue with painters, owners of kiosks, and vendors alongside numerous tourists crossing the bridge.

next to Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic - 14th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
Look Mum, I found a bridge with many many "love locks". It's an old tradition. You engrave your name and the name of your sweethart and the you lock it on a bridge and throw the key into the river. Isn't it nice!?
And look, I found a gang of pirates!!!

Prague Castle, Czech Republic - 14th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
We finally ended our tour at the famous and HUUUUUGGGEEE Prague Castle.
You can see me in front of Saint Vitus Cathedral and enjoying the amazing view to the city from there!
Prague Castle (Czech: Pra˛skż hrad) is a castle in Prague where the Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Czech Crown Jewels are kept here. Prague Castle is the biggest castle in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records the biggest ancient castle) at about 570 metres in length and an average of about 130 metres wide.
The castle buildings represent virtually every architectural style of the last millennium. The Prague Castle includes Gothic St Vitus Cathedral, Romanesque Basilica of St. George, a monastery and several palaces, gardens and defense towers. Most of the castle areas are open to tourists. Nowadays, the castle houses several museums, including the National Gallery collection of Bohemian baroque and mannerism art, exhibition dedicated to Czech history, Toy Museum and the picture gallery of Prague Castle, based on the collection of Rudolph II. The Summer Shakespeare Festival regularly takes place in the courtyard of Burgrave Palace.
Saint Vitus' Cathedral (Czech: Katedrįla svatého Vķta) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Prague, and the seat of the Archbishop of Prague. The full name of the cathedral is St. Vitus, St. Wenceslas and St. Adalbert Cathedral.
Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, this cathedral is an excellent example of Gothic architecture and is the biggest and most important church in the country. The cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex

New house - Mönchengladbach, Germany - 17th March 2012
By: Tom+Jerry
Hi Mum,
I'm back in Germany!
I helped my hosts renovate the new house over the weekend and had a lot of fun together with Franz-Ferdinand
We were real men at work!
You can see me studying the manual, preparing the thermal insulation and the floor, working with a big hammer, climbing out of the bucket and unpacking packing cases.
Now, I'm a real craftsman!
