After visiting Deanna Rose Park, we went to China Star for dinner. Some people think that dessert is the very best part!

Museum of Science and Industry, England - 7th July 2012
By: miapearl
We've come out to Manchester in England to visit a museum.
This is an old steam engine called Planet.
An engine
Another engine.
This is a model of an engine a set up at ICI
Part of the museum is based in a train shed, and there are train engines and carriages.
In another building of the museum, equipment from a laboratory at Daresbury, used in various experiments. People from the lab won a Nobel Prize.
There was a hands on science section. We can investigate Magnetic Fields.
Do you see the difference?
This is Bernard Lovell, a pioner of modern astronomy.
This is Jodrell Bank, a radio telescope able to track Sputnik.
Manchester was home to the textile industry. These are some fabric printing blocks.
We caught a cotton demonstration. Here, the fibres are separated and drawn together to make a "thingy".
Then they are smoothed out again and combined with other strands to make it stronger.
The strands are smoothed out again and combined with other strands to make it stronger still, and then wound onto a bobbin.
The man is holding a picture of these machines, back to back, in a mill.
The thread is drawn out, and then twisted before rolled onto another bobbin.
Small children would clear out the debris as the machine moves back... A dangerous job...
Now it is time for weaving to make the cloth.
This is the Pegasus computer, built by Ferranti.
Air samplers to measure radiation.
Here we are measuring radiation.
Next, we went to another building housing the aviation section.
Odd-looking aircraft.
Rotors.
Boldly going where no one has gone before.
