São Paulo, Brazil - 2nd July 2009
By: Marilia
Dear mom,
I'm finally in Brazil. I actually arrived last Tuesday (06/30), but I didn't have much to say. Marília, my host, told me that I could have something interesting to write if I waited until yesterday, but it's so rainy outside that we didn't go out after my arrival.
Anyway, the journey was ok. I couldn't say it's that great traveling in an envelope, but I guess it could be worse... maybe.
Marília is a nice host. She got so surprised when I arrived! She had thought I was bigger and she can't stop saying that I'm cute. You always say that too! =)
This is me when I first arrived, sitting on my envelope next to Mortimer_.
I saw a very nice chair and asked if I could sit on it, but Mortimer_ told me that Marília's mom had given it to him and he wouldn't let me sit.
Marília got worried because she didn't want us to fight, so she called Mortimer_ and talked to him for a while. I heard something about making me feel home. I guess it was a good conversation because then Mortimer_ let me sit on his chair.
We realized that the chair was too small for both of us, so Mortimer_ left and let me sit by myself. Don't I look nice on it, mom?
Then we had this great conversation. I told him all about the places I've been and he told me about Greece and Finland, and we talked about the places in Germany that we have visited. It was a very nice night.
Later, Christian, Marília's fiancé, arrived and we watched The Sound of Music...
... and had some very Brazilian food: rice and beans. But there were also nuggets, and nuggets aren't typical Brazilian food. But anyway... it tasted good.
I hope I have a good time in Brazil. Marília will travel next week and she told me that I'll come with her. I can't wait
Love,
HolgiHH

São Paulo, Brazil - 6th July 2009
By: Marilia
Hi mom!
It's finally sunny out there!! It was great because we could go out last weekend. And we had another TV with us. His name is Hedgie, he is Australian and has been in Brazil for some months now, but he is still very happy about it.
Marília meant to update my travelog earlier, but she has been very busy lately. Can you believe that she was interviewed last Friday? She is becoming famous because of her blog. We all went with her to the TV office, but she didn't take pictures of us... =/
On my first weekend here, I had so much fun! On Saturday, we went to Parque do Ibirapuera, a very famous park of São Paulo. It was very calm and relaxing, although it's the biggest park of the city!
This is us arriving. They have some very nice paths and a big lake
There are many ducks there and they get very close to us because they know that the visitors will feed them.
After walking a lot, we decided to rest, so we layed on the flowers and just watched the lake and the people playing around.
Of course Marília and Christian, her fiancé, also decided to lay, but they had a towel and didn't want to lay on the flowers.
Yesterday was also a very good day. We all walked almost 4 km and Marília and Christian showed us many things. We walked along this very beautiful avenue called Avenida Paulista. I didn't know I was coming to such a huge city! Mortimer_ told me that he has been to an observatory on the top of a building, and Marília told me that she will take me there someday.
This is Avenida Paulista:
There are some very nice places to stop by.
Then we went to the movies, watched a funny Brazilian movie called "A Mulher Invisível" ["The Invisible Woman"] and walked all the 4 km back home.
Now we will rest because, as I told you, we are going to travel on Wednesday. Marília is going to visit her friend and will take all of us. She'll buy the bus ticket tomorrow.
I'll let you know about our plans.
Love,
HolgiHH

Ribeirão Preto and São Paulo, Brazil - 12th July 2009
By: Marilia
Hello mom!
I'm back from our holiday! Last Wednesday we (Marília, HolgiHH, Hedgie and me) took the bus very early and the ride took about 4:30 hours. This is our bus:
And this is the first view of the city:
Marília hadn't been there before, so she was a little excited to see the place. Marília met Rafaella on the internet 6 years ago and they became close friends.
It was fun staying with the girls, although most of the time Marília was helping her friend, Rafaella, to pack her things. Rafaella is going to study in another state and she will move within a couple of days.
Rafaella has 6 cats and a huge dog. Marília couldn't find them all together, but you can see some of the cats in this picture:
And the dog, called Budy:
On Wednesday and Thursday night there was a dance festival in town. We all went to both of them and Rafaella danced on Thursday.
This is the Municipal Theater, where she danced, and then me looking forward for the festival to start:
Rafaella and her group danced very well. I really enjoyed it! Marília took tons of pictures and I'll show you two of them. In the first one you can see Rafaella dancing in the front and in the second one you can see the whole group:
We also went to a small park, but Marília couldn't get nice pictures there...
We came back home on Friday and yesterday we (Marília, Christian, Holgi, Hedgie and me) went to the movies to watch Transformers 2.
It's rainy and cold out there again. I wish the weather was better so we could hang out more. But I'm having fun here.
Love,
HolgiHH

São Carlos, Brazil - 3rd August 2009
By: Marilia
Dear mom,
Last weekend we went to São Carlos again, Christian's hometown. Getting away from São Paulo was so exciting! You will understand what I'm saying when you take a look at this picture:
It's always good to breathe some fresh air and to watch a blue sky. And guess what I saw. A donkey, mom!! It was so nice! Marília didn't allow me to get too close to him because she told me that he could be wild, but it was very nice!
There were also some horses and we took some pictures with them. I like the second one: Christian made me look as if I were riding the horse.
Then Marília took us to see Christian's dad's garden. We saw a lot of interesting things. First you can see a banana plant. Did you know that the banana plant is actually the world's largest herb?
Unfortunately the bananas were still green and we couldn't eat them.
In this picture you can see a cassava (or manioc). Cassava is a root native to South America and you can prepare many dishes out of it.
This is another fruit native to Brazil (and Argentina and Paraguay). It's called jabuticaba or Brazilian Grape Tree. Marília told me that they are delicious, but they were also green so we couldn't eat them. When they get black, they are very sweet.
Then we saw some strawberries and climbed a tree.
And mom, just take a look at the size of this leaf! It's huuuuge.
Well, this was a VERY nice weekend!
We are going to travel on Wednesday morning and won't be back until Sunday night, so don't worry about me. Marília is taking good care of me.
Love,
HolgiHH

Paraty and Trindade, Brazil - 10th August 2009
By: Marilia
Hello mom!
It's been a long time, huh?
First of all, thank you so much for letting me stay in Brazil a little longer! Marília told me that you intended me to travel last week, but I had the best week ever!
To celebrate their fourth year together, Marília and Christian decided to travel. Of course they took me, Mortimer_ and Hedgie.
The journey was nice and we had some great views:
But there was a part of the road which was destroyed last year and we didn't know, so we got to a barrier and a guy let us go on so that we didn’t have to come all our way back to another road.
As I said, it was terrible. Just take a look at this picture and you’ll know why:
It was a relief when we finally got to Paraty, which is a historical small town in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is a wonderful place to have some rest!
Then I saw the sea. The Atlantic Ocean, mom!!
This is our hotel room. It was very comfy.
The following day we sailed in a boat and visited a couple of islands. It was amazing!!
Look at the water’s color and all those fishes…
And this is the boat we took:
The next day we went to Trindade, a tiny, TINY town of Rio de Janeiro. There’s almost nothing in the town, but the beaches are truly gorgeous.
The weather in our first day in Trindade was a little disappointing: it was cloudy and a little cold. Anyway, we could see how beautiful the beaches were:
The following day was a lot nicer with the sun shining.
And yesterday we came back home.
Again, thanks for letting me stay, mom!

Somewhere, in America - 12th August 2009
By: Marilia
Hello mom,
It's dark in here and I don't know where I am exactly.
Marília sent me to the USA yesterday.
I will miss Brazil but I'm sure I'm going to enjoy North America.
I gave my TV friends a huge hug. I hope I can meet them someday, somewhere...
Talk to you soon.
Love,
HolgiHH
