Ronkonkoma, New York, USA - 6th May 2013
By: Grandma
Hi Mum,
I arrived safely at my new destination. As soon as I crawled out of my envelope, I was greeted by Fido, Lamikins and Teddy. They were very excited to see me. I am the first Toy Voyager to visit with my host family. I got a tour of the house and the yard. Fido and I climbed the dogwood tree. Dogwoods are his favorite. It is sunny and warm here, and the spring trees are all in bloom.
Love,
Dottie Mouse

Oakdale, New York, USA, USA - 7th May 2013
By: Grandma
Dear Mum,
I hope you are not worried, since I didn't post any news for a while. I've been having some adventures with my host family's toys. So here are the pictures. The first ones are showing my trip to Dowling College on May 7. I went with my new friend Fido, and tasted the cheese empanadas and some brownies. Fido liked the meat filled ones. The students are raising money for their club. The little flags are from countries where the students are from. I asked if they had a flag for Germany, but they didn't. I will post more pictures later today.

Dear Mum,
Today I played Scrabble with my friends. They are Fido (the dog), Painter Bear, and Eduardo. Painter bear is many colors. Eduardo has a necktie. As you can see, I had a great word to put on the board! But I don't know what to do with the other two letters I have left.
I hope everyone is fine at home. I miss you.
Love,
Dottie Mouse

Dear Mum,
It is so much fun to cuddle with these big toys! The biggest is "Obama Bear." He is named after the President of the USA. I took my sweater off, since it is quite warm here. Fido thought my sweater would fit on his foot for a sock! He's very silly. You can see me looking at the paintings in my host's house, and looking out of the window at the neighborhood. We will take a walk later.

Lake Ronkonkoma, New York, USA - 29th May 2013
By: Grandma
Today my host took me for a walk. We went to the lake, about 1/4 mile from Grandma's house. It is a kettle lake, which means a lake that was formed by a large chunk of ice from the last glacier. A glacier formed all of Long Island about 20,000 years ago. The Ronkonkoma moraine is the highest spot, located in the middle of the island. Long Island is very long, about 118 miles (190 km), but only about 23 miles wide (37 km).
I don't feel like I'm on an island. I don't see the water around it. This area is very suburban, with many houses and yards on quiet streets. Grandma lives at the end of a narrow lane. First we walk to the end. We pass a playground, and we take a look at the poison ivy that is growing along the lane. Then we turn towards the lake, and walk on a sidewalk. Here we see more cars. We are walking downhill.
Finally we get to the lake. The lake is 0.65 miles (1.05 km) across. There is a dock with some people fishing. This is a freshwater lake, and it is stocked with bass. Some children are swimming, and there are some others sunbathing. We walked to the geese but they left when we came near. I am quacking at the baby geese (goslings) but they don't hear me!
