Orange, New South Wales, Australia - 9th April 2008
By: sararingham
Hello! My name is Roots Bear. I was rescued by AbbyB, and then I was adopted by sararingham I just arrived in Australia today, and I'm not going to have long here. Sara says there's a host lined up for me already in England! I hope I get to see London and everything there - how exciting would that be!
When I got here I was greeted by Bon who is a toyvoyager from the Netherlands! How exciting to meet someone from so far away... I'm from far away too - but everyone knows what I mean!... I also got to meet up with Jubilee Bunny and Toothy Walrus. Jubilee will be going to India later this week so I better spend as much time as I can with her before she's off on her journey!
Anyways, I'm pretty excited to start my journey! I'll make posts again soon hopefully, and at that time, I'll probably be in England! How exciting! :-)

I'm not quite sure how to explain this but Roots Bear was on his way to the Ukraine and somehow got stopped in Saudi Arabia, and this wonderful person picked him up and let me know via email that Roots is in Saudi Arabia! He sent me a nice picture of him...
I'm so happy, so ecstatic to hear he's okay! He should soon be on his way to the Netherlands! *fingers crossed*

Hello,
I arrived in The Netherlands today! I had a great trip from Saudi Arabia. The guy who found me put me in a plastic bag so I wouldn't get wet. That was very sweet of him! Thank God he also put some holes in the bag so I could breath. When Marjolein opened the envelop Nick, LiLA Bear and Pingu where there to welcome me into The Netherlands. They wanted to know all about my journey! I've already had a bit of an aventure but I just know I will have a good time in Holland! And Marjolein said we are going on a trip to Italy in July! I can't wait!
I'll keep you posted! Roots

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - 29th May 2008
By: Marjolein
Dear mum,
I went to see the Dutch national footballteam today!! In the footballstadium of PSV Eindhoven in Eindhoven. The match was between Holland and Denmark.
Before the match, there was a giant toy on the field! He had a drum with 'Dutchy' on it. Marjolein told me this is the mascotte of the Dutch team. I said he should also travel but Marjolein doubts he will fit into an envelop. She told me a little secret: there is actually in man inside that lionssuit!
But then the match began. First it was time for the national anthems. The Dutch anthem is called the 'Wilhelmus' named after Willem I, king of the Netherlands in the 16th century. The song has 15 verses but they only sing one at the footballmatches. Most of the Dutch only know this verse.
That's the goalkeeper of the Netherlands, Edwin van der Sar, on the big screen.
And they're off!
Do you see all the people nicely dressed in orange? Orange is the Dutch national colour. This is because their royalty's (queen Beatrix and family) are called Oranje (orange in Dutch).
Rafael van der Vaart (number 23, footballer of HSV, in Germany) took a cornerkick for Holland.
And Holland scored!!
Chompers was so excited! We couldn't see anything!
But I was also partying!
So when the second half of the match began, it was 1-0 for Holland.
But then Denmark got dangerous!
O no! Denmark scored!!
And that was the end of the match. The first half was very good, but the second half the Dutch team played sloppy and they let Denmark make a goal. I hope they will do better at the European Championship next month! This game was just for practice.
The stadion of PSV Eindhoven is a very beautiful stadium, also on the outside. It's called 'Philips Stadion' because Philips is their sponsor. Philips is a factory that makes lamps and other electric stuff. Eindhoven is therefore also called the 'Lichtstad' translated something like The city of Light. That sounds beautiful doesn't it?
Love Roots

LiLA Bear went to England today! Marjolein brought her to the postoffice and send her on with her journey. Lila is very sweet and I am going to miss her very much. So I gave her a big hug and wished her good luck.

I had already told you the Netherlands won from Italy with 3-0 yesterday, hadn't I? Marjolein bought some newspapers to show how the European Cup lives in Holland. All the newspapers are orange!

Hi mum,
I ate some real Dutch food today: herring and stroopwafels. The call herring, when you eat it like this Hollandse Nieuwe. It doesn't look very yummie, but it actually was! They eat the herring not with knives and forks but they bite it out of the sky! Weird Dutch people
Kisses Roots
