Hoogersmilde, The Netherlands - 20th April 2009

By: Avalance

On this picture we are waiting for the bus to come. We left work and are on our way home. As you see on the picture, it's a long canal of 41,8 km! And it's called de Drentsche Hoofdvaart. Back in the days it was very important, they used to use the boats to carry peat from one place to another, and later also for other materials. Now there are also many fun boat trips as well.

If you walk 5 minutes in that picture, you'll see her work. Hahaha!

Giethoorn, The Netherlands - 30th April 2009

By: Avalance

As host-mom was very busy with her work and everything, she didn't had much time to take us to other places, but if she was going somewhere, where we haven't been yet she took us.

On this day, everyone is free. 30th April is Queensday here in the Netherlands. We planned to go out for a day sailing. Host-mom and her boyfriend hired a boat and went sailing for like nearly 3 hours!
It was really great. We enjoyed the nature and everything.

The place where we went is called Giethoorn. A different name for this place is "little Venice". You know the Venice in Italy. They have called it like this, because you can sail there. Or something like that........

Anyways, after the sailing we went out for a nice dinner. And then while we were going home, we heard on the car radio that the Dutch Royal Family got attacked! We were kinda shocked to hear, because there was this guy who drove into people just to hit the bus where the Royal Family was getting transported in, to wave at the people who were celebrating Queensday. The man didn't hit the bus, but instead he hit a stone needle and that was it!

(8 people died so far, along those is also the attacker)

*sigh*, even with the sad news, we did had a wonderful day as the day after it was all rainy and cold.

Assen, The Netherlands - 10th May 2009

By: Avalance

This will be the last entry before I am going on my next trip!

We had a lucky day again, it was very sunny and beautiful! Today we went to the Dutch Truck Grand Prix ADAC Masters Weekend at the TT-Circuit in Assen. Assen is a bit famous for the TT-Circuit where a lot of championships are held. Soon also the MOTOGP races. For host-mom it was also the first time she ever went to such event. It was awesome! We made some pictures and watched the races. Really great!

I really had a wonderful time here in the Netherlands, and I am a bit sad that I am leaving already. I learned a lot about the Netherlands and I hope my next trip will be as good as this one!

Greetings from Marky!
