Delphi, Greece - 20th May 2010
By: fam-united
Today I flew with my human friend to Greece, because he was doing a field excursion with his classical Greek class. We had to be at the airport at 12 o'clock, because we had to fly at 2 pm. We arrived at quarter to 6 pm in Athens. Then we went by bus to Delphi. Arrived we went in a restaurant and then to our hotel. Because it was late in the evening, my roommates and I went after a long day to bed.

Olympia, Greece - 22nd May 2010
By: fam-united
Today we visited the old Olympia. Here you see the temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the (Ancient) World. It was built in the middle of the 5th century BC.
The temple, which included the statue of Zeus, was destroyed by an earthquake. In 2004 a 10,55 m high column was reconstructed. I'm very proud to see such an important place.
After visiting the temples and other ruines we went to the old stadium. My friend and some other friends wanted to run, because they wanted to see, who the olympic champion is. Therefore they ran 192,28 m. They ran twice and the second time my friend won. I kept my fingers crossed for him and it worked, but he was really exhausted.
We also saw the place, where the Olympic torch is lighted every four years. All this facts slayed me, but it was great.

Corinth, Greece - 24th May 2010
By: fam-united
Here you see me infront of the Temple of Apollo in Corinth. Corinth was one of the most important exporters of ceramics. It was also a mycenaean palace-city.
After visiting Corinth we travelled over the Isthmus of Corinth in direction of Athens. We stopped at the Isthmus and saw a big cruiser cross it. The tour to Athens was really hard but all the more we were happy to be in Athens at the evening. We were all shocked of this very big city which of course is the capital of Greece because there was very much traffic and we all had heard from the disturbances in Athens that went the circuit in whole Europe. Fortunately we arrived in our hotel and stayed there the evening to bear the new impressions.
This picture shows how dark and scarry it was in Athen at this evening.

Athens, Greece - 25th May 2010

Today we visited the Kerameikon and the temple of Hephaistos. It is one of the most well-preserved Greek temples. It was great to see it. My human friend, his friends and his teachers took a foto of themselves with a view to the Acropolis.

Athens, Greece - 27th May 2010
By: fam-united
Today we made a trip to the island, named Aegina. It is an island laying off the coast of Athens. So we took the metro and went to the Piraeus, the port of Athens. The teachers bought tickets to be able to go by ship to the isle. It was a big ferry for cars, buses, trucks and humans. My friend went with his friends straight to the "sun deck". As always we had sunshine, blue sky and over 30°C. Arrived the island we went by bus to the Temple of Aphaea. There were less people although the temple was in a good state.
My friend also took many fotos of the fantastic countryside. You had a great overview at the sea and the mainland. So he took a foto with me, too.

Unfortunately my friend forgot today his foto in the hotel. I was with him and we watched the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. We saw for example the original Mask of Agamemnon. But he couldn't take fotos. He was really sad.

Today we went to the airport and flew with the Airbus A321-100 named Flensburg back to Germany. The special at the plane was that it was made while making a documentation about building a plane at the "Sendung mit der Maus". You can see a picture of it here: Airbus A321-100
Later in Germany I was glad to be at home again.:-)

Karlsruhe, Germany - 1st June 2010
By: fam-united
Karlsruhe is the third largest city after Stuttgart and Mannheim of Baden-Württemberg. It is about 20km from Bruchsal and located near the French-German border.
Founded in 1715 as Karlsruhe Palace, the surrounding town became the seat of two of the highest courts in Germany, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht) whose decisions have the force of a law, and the Federal Court of Justice of Germany (Bundesgerichtshof), the highest court of appeals in matters of civil law and criminal law. It therefore considers itself the home of justice in Germany, a role taken over from Leipzig after 1933.
It is said[weasel words] to be model city for the cityscape of Washington D.C., due to similarities to the US capital city. Both cities have a center—in Karlsruhe the palace and in D.C. the Capitol Building—from which the streets lead away like sunrays.
Karlsruhe Palace (German: Karlsruher Schloss) was erected in 1715 by Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach, after a dispute with the citizens of his previous capital, Durlach. The city of Karlsruhe has since grown around it.
We weren't allowed to take photos of the exhibition, but I can tell you, it was really interesting: Vom Minnesang zur Popakademie
But we took some photos of making music ourselves.
On this photo you can imagine the one street, that leads from the palace as center. There are many other streets built the same way around the palace as center.
Karl Friedrich, 1st Grand Duke of Baden (November 22, 1728 – June 10, 1811) was Margrave, elector and later Grand Duke of Baden (initially only margrave of Baden-Durlach) from 1731 until his death.
There's a big building site in the road, which we just saw from the far.
Now I want to show you some photos on our way home. We passed a church and a castle, where the brewery Höpfner is located.
Here we see the Michaelsberg with its nice chapel. I will go there soon, I promise.
