De Koog, Texel, The Netherlands - 28th July 2009
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
After having spent the last days in Amsterdam, we traveled on to the island of Texel.
We have a nice hotel here and we can see the beach from our hotel room.
We rented a bike and went on a tour to discover the island. Can you see me riding the bike?
We came upon an exhibition of figurines made of sand. They were huge! You can see me in front of some figurines of the Easter islands and with dinosours! Scary!
In the evening we had a real treat: Vlaamse Frites. That's french fries with mayonnaise, lots of mayonnaise!

Hi Mom!
We went to the beach today- in huge flip-flops ! It was beautiful there. We saw so many mussel-shells there and some crabs or crayfish...
Did you know that people here eat chocolate sprinkles on buttered toast for breakfast? You can see me with the famous brand of it- we took some home as souvenirs for my host mom's family.
All the walking on the beach made me sleepy....

Alkmaar, The Netherlands - 30th July 2009
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we arrived in Alkmaar. We went there by train and the wagons were new and comfortable.
We then walked around in Alkmaar. First we went to a beautiful old church. We continued on to the city center where the cheesemarket is held every Friday. The slogan says "Say cheese - say Alkmaar" so we first visited the cheese-museum!
You can see me in front of fake cheese, but so you can see how huge such a cheese is...
Of course we also went to a store where they sell solely cheese! And look, is that a green toyvoyager-mouse in the window?
After all this cheese I really needed something sweet: So we had a traditional applecake, called appeltaart. Mmmm...delicious!!!!

Hi Mom!
Today was the famous Alkmaar cheese-market! You can see how much cheese there was. It was auctined and then transported to the lorries with small wagons by special men. Those are from the cheese-union. You can see them with their hats!
Can you also see the girls in the traditional Dutch dresses? I think they look so cute!
There was also another market there, where you could buy flowers and bulbs!

We did another canal tour today! We saw beautiful houses along the canals and a very typical Dutch thing: a windmill!
Then we had a really nice treat: a delicious fruit shake! Yummi!
I can't believe that we will go home again tomorrow! Time really flew by!

Graz, Austria - 9th August 2009
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
When we returned from our holiday, we had a lot to do: updating the travelogs, eating loads of cheese, washing our clothes, ...
Now we're settled in the "real life" again!
It's mushroom season in Austria now and my host mom's parents went on a mushroom foray and came home with chantarelles. We TVs got our share!
That was great!
Well, I'd say we had earned a great meal after having done so much work in the household

Hi Mom!
Today arrived a new TV. It's a little Westie puppy and he is so cute. His name is LittleWestiePup.
The weather was rainy again, so we could not show him around after his arrival. So we decided on watching tv and sharing a big pizza!

Hi Mom!
Do you remember one of the first pictures I have shown you from here? I was on the balcony, with some small tomato plants and other vegetable-plants.
Now it was time to harvest! Look what we got! And there are still some vegetables on the plants who still wait to be harvested...
We also went to a flower field, where you can pick the flowers yourself. These are gladioli. Ain't those beautiful?

Graz, Austria - 16th August 2009
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we went up on the Schlossberg. That's a hill in the city center of Graz. You can either walk up there or go with an elevaor inside of the hill or go by funicular railway. We've been sporty and walked up there. We had beautiful weather!
You can see me with my toyvoyager-friends in front of the Clock tower, which is the town's landmark! Look at the clock...the hands are quite interesting. The big hand is for the hour, the small for the minutes. Normally it's the other way around. But when the clock tower has been built, people only needed to know the hour. So when later people wanted to know the exact time, they had to ad another hand, but a smaller one!
You can see me looking down to the city center with the town hall (Third picture) and the Kunsthaus. That's the blue bubble (last two pictures) and a museum for contemporary art and photography!
What a beautiful view- don't you think so?

Hi Mom!
Today we met a new TV, Atta. She came from Germany and told us about her travel!
She was a bit tired from all the traveling, so we wanted to have a quiet evening! We decided to play scrabble- it was a bit tricky as we played the German version, but we had so much fun!

Mechterstädt, Germany - 27th August 2009
By: iloveletters
Hello from Germany!
Today I arrived a the village Mechterstädt in Thuringia, right in the middle of Germany. I already had a great day, lots of sun and a very warm welcome. My new host found me around 6 pm when she returned from school.
We did a bit a bit of postcrossing, registering a card from Oklahoma and I got the news from ToyVoyagers:
For the weekend we are travelling to Sondershausen in the north of Thuringia. We will attend a choir workshop and I will tell you more about it next week.
CU!
