Hey Mommy-Muuuh!
Today we made a sweet Strawberry-muuuh-Fanta-Cake. For the main mixture you need the following things muuuh: 4 eggs 2 cups of sugar 1 pack of vanilla sugar 3 cups of flour 1 pack of baking powder 1 cup of oil You need to get all these things together muuuh and mix it until its a creamy mass muuuh. After that muuuh you put bakingpaper on an baking tray and spread the mass all over muuuh. Put the baking tray into the oven at 175 degrees, for about 25 minutes muuuh. Normally you need 3 sockets of muuuhdarins for this kind of cake, but the magazines were closed muuuh because of easter so we took a box of strawberries muuuh. The other stuff we muuh needed for the cream muuh: 3 cups cream 3 packs of 'Sahnesteif' ˝ cup of sugar 3 cups sour cream 1 cup of soda (Fanta) We put the muuuhcream ontop of the muuuhcake, and put it into the fridge to get more fixed muuuh. When I will be Muuh home, we can make this one together if you muuuh want. I love you Mummy Muuuuh |

And this was Jess moo first school from 1999 - 2002 And her other school, i moogot when she has been there After that we found a trainbridge, where we climbed up moo. And i wanted to sit just once on a railway moo, but we had a little fight about the danger of that. And I won moooo.. Jess boyfriend sat me carefully on the railway when he was sure no train will come mooo, while Jess took the picture mooo. That was exciting At the end of our moo trip we had to go to a washcenter, beacause the car was soooo mooo dirty. and we decided to go to mccafe mooolicious You will hear from me tomorrow when your package to Jess arrives Moo I moo you mommmy |

There is some live music. There are some fun things for children to do and play A helterskelter A miniature engine A little railway. The train again. A "wind-up doll" in front of an old traction engine. Chair-o-plane and a little big wheel A traction engine. It is on the move My host's son is on this ride My host and her family didn't fancy a ride on this tall thing. My host has been on this sort of ride before, she tells me. |
miapearl Posted May 17, 2012, 4:26 pm |
On the way home, we stopped off to find a GeoCache.
Puffin Island and Anglesey can be seen from here. It is a bit too sunny for a great picture of Puffin Island and Anglesey. My host's son and husband are about to go round the corner. we found the cache. My host's son wants a bouncy ball. View towards Conwy and Llandudno |
miapearl Posted May 18, 2012, 4:33 pm |

Hello Mum,
This is going to be a long update with many photos! Today, we went to Portmeirion, an italianette village used in the 1960s cult TV series, The Prisoner. The village was designed by Clough Ellis, and most of the buildings have Grade II listed status. This is the Gate House. This is a mural inside the Gate House arch, painted by Hans Nathan Feibusch from Germany. We descended down some steps by the Gate House. That's the Hotel on the beach. We are inside the grotto. The Observatory Tower is down there by the sea. A look along the coast. There's the hotel and the Observatory Tower again. A view from the shore up to the village. Admiral Nelson! A view next to the Observatory Tower. We walked back via the woodland trail, coming across a stump with tuppence pieces in it. It looks quite pretty! This is the Lighthouse A pond and the Mermaid. There's the Bell Tower. The Bristole Colonnade, and The Pantheon (the Green Dome, in The Prisoner where Number 2 could often be found). This is the Piazza, with the building at the end called The Gloriette. Another view of the Bristol Colonnade. The Bell Tower again. Another statue. View from near the Pantheon, of the Bell Tower and other buildings. St Peter is on the balcony of the Toll House. The Pantheon is up there. The Colonnade again. And now it is time to go home. |
miapearl Posted May 30, 2012, 7:48 pm |
Hello Mum,
Winter bear arrived and to celebrate it, we are watching The Prisoner. The first episode is the arrival of Number 6 to The Village (aka Portmeirion where the other visitors went last weekend). Number 6 has just looked out of his window. There he is. An aerial view of the green dome Another aerial view. Rover in The Piazza. Another aerial view. |

Hi Mum,
Today, we went to The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth. First, we rode in the train up the cliff to the top. This display shows carbon dioxide emissions for various transport methods. A pond with the frog Pretty flowers to attract the bees and other nice creatures. A dolls house with electrical gadgets. This display allows you to see how much energy is wasted by leaving things on, or on standby. They haven't heard of ToyVoyagers! A little garden with things growing in sinks and toilet bowls. Solar panel, we can position it... and increase the amount of light hitting the panel. We are in the polytunnel. They have some grape vines. They also have flowers and other plants. Herbs! Mint! Gwennie is in the rosemary. There is a solar panel roof. There is a course currently for people wanting to know more about solar panels. A mole! and its tunnel. Comparing different energy and power. Bee hive! Anatomy of a bee! Honey bees. Dancing bees (waggle dance). The Queen Bee lays eggs in a wax cell. A wind powered seat. A metal plate, painted dark, insulation behind, and then covered in glass. Blades for a wind turbine get attached to this thing. Now it is time to go. |
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:48 pm |
Hi Mum,
As it was a nice evening, we stopped off to cross a bridge to Barmouth. A nice pleasant walk so far. The bridge spans the estuary. That's the river Mawddach. The bridge we'll cross doesn't take cars, and I can't see another bridge (it must be a few more miles away). We crossed the bridge, it was rather too windy to stop for photos on it.. |
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:49 pm |
Yesterday was a long day so today, I am going to rest. |
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:50 pm |
Hi Mum,
Today we went GeoCaching along the North Wales Coast. There is a GeoCache near this small church and it has a well. This is a very small church. But it has stained glass windows. It really isn't very big! Then, we went along the coast and found one here! |
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:50 pm |
My host tells me that the Olympic Torch is coming to the area, and said we might be lucky enough to see it!
|
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:51 pm |
Hi Mum,
The Torch is coming, the Olympic Flame is coming. There's a procession first With the corporate sponsors getting us in the mood to see the Torch any minute now... More police on motorbikes. There it is, trust my host to have it out of focus! There it goes, can you see the flame? |
miapearl Posted Jun 1, 2012, 12:52 pm |
Hi Mum,
We have another chance to see the Flame. Should be here any minute now. Looks camoflaged in the "fold" of the building. Can see the Flame better. And there it goes. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 10:36 am |
Today, I helped my host make some muffins
Rhubarb and apple muffins... Here I am mixing some of the ingredients. And more ingredients... Ready to go in the oven. Cooked! Some have disappeared. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 12:39 pm |
Today, we went to see a castle.
This is Beeston Castle, in Cheshire. we are resting on the outer bailey, or wall, looking across the Cheshire countryside. A view along the wall And a view up the hill to the castle. I made it up the hill, and am now in the castle The castle was partially demolished in the Civil War. A good view all around (weather permitting). The castle was built on sandstone rock, in the 13th century. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 11:12 pm |
Today, we've come to Anderton Boat Lift.
This is the top of the boat lift. That's what it looks like from the side. We are on a boat trip. Taking a brief tour of the River Weaver Navigation system. Pleasant cruise! Then we got to go on the boat lift. We are coming off the lift and cruising onto the canal. Then, we had another look at the boat lift. And tried the maze made from counterweights. And here we all are at the centre of the maze. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 11:17 pm |
We are in Llandudno today because last week, after visiting the Anderton Boat Lift, we stopped off at the theatre in Llandudno, for my host's son and husband to see a show. My host left a bag there, and only discovered it was missing yesterday.
It was a sunny day and we had a little rest on the promenade outside the theatre, after she got her bag back. The sea looks calm. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 11:17 pm |
We are in Porthmadog to ride the Welsh Highland Railway.
We are on a train. The engine pulls us out of the station, but then has to switch ends to pull us in another direction. Porthmadog has an estuary, with a tidal island. And inland, are some hills and mountains of Snowdonia in the distance. We are going across the Cob, built to cross the estuary. This is the River Glaslyn that runs out at Porthmadog. A hill. Moel Hebog, from Beddgelert station We are moving again. And on we go. We have stopped off in Rhyd Ddu. We can take a look at the engine. Can you see the top of Mount Snowdon? Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales. And on we go. We are approaching another station. That engine is called Caernarfon Castle. |
miapearl Posted Jun 25, 2012, 11:18 pm |
We have arrived back in Caernarfon
The train will go back to Porthmadog. There's Caernarfon Castle. |

Hi Mom!
I have arrived in Austria! It's really summer here, we had +30° C the whole time since I have arrived! It was much too hot for sightseeing, so Mom just took me with her to her office. I played around with everything I found on the desk! It's still too hot to do anything, so I'll just watch some tv now! Servus! |
marcie08 Posted Jul 17, 2012, 6:51 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today I travelled the world with postcards! I helped my hostmom with her postcard work. We scanned the cards and registered them on postcrossing. I wish the postcards could talk and tell me about their journey! Servus from Vienna! |
marcie08 Posted Jul 17, 2012, 6:55 pm |
Hi Mom!
It is still very hot outside, so we decided to have some summer BBQ. My hostmom does not have a balcony or garden, so we could not grill outside. Instead we put the vegetables and halloumi cheese in the oven. We also had some garlic bread! What a nice dinner Mahlzeit from Vienna! |
marcie08 Posted Jul 17, 2012, 7:32 pm |
Hi Mom!
Surprise, I completed my first LifeMission Hooray! I visited the Austrian Alps last weekend! My hostmom took me to a little town called Puchberg and took our quarters in a nice hotel there. We decided to go hiking and enjoy the Austrian mountains! Our first tour took us to the Semmering mountain which is famous for the Semmering Railway, built in the 1840s. We hiked along the railway and saw many trains, of course The Semmering Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is really amazing to admire the work that was completed in 1854 - and the railway still uses this old path! You can also see the old cabins the railway workers used. We hiked from Semmering to Breitenstein and then took a train back to Semmering. Along the railway you can find information on the construction of the railway and some historic facts. What an interesting tour! Back at the hotel we relaxed in the spa area! Servus! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 2, 2012, 8:39 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today we went on the Schneeberg (the Snow Mountain) and we even saw some remains of snow We took a funny train up there that looks like a salamander. We passed through the forrest, higher and higher up the mountain. And then we had the fantastic view over the area. When we have finally reached the top, we enjoyed the many flowers we saw and also some of my distant family members Servus from the mountain! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 2, 2012, 8:52 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today my host mom took me to a market to shop for fresh veggies. And when we browsed the stands there, we saw some mini cucumbers! So my host mom decided to buy some and make pickels We brought the cucumbers home. After a thorough wash we prepared a bowl with salted water. The cucumbers then have to take a 24 hour bath. More tomorrow |
marcie08 Posted Aug 2, 2012, 9:03 pm |
Hi Mom!
So, let's have a look at the bathing cucumbers! As you can see, they have soaked in the water and made a little foam. Then we prepared the brew to pickle the cucumbers. It is made from vinegar, dill, pepper, mustard seeds and dill flower. The brew cooked for a few minutes. In the meantime we drained the cucumbers, washed them again and drained them. My host mom put the cucumbers in preserving jars along with slices of onion, peppercorns, mustard seeds and the dillflower. We then filled the glasses with the brew and sealed them. We then put them on a towel, upside down. When the jars had cooled down, we again turned them. The jars have to rest for three weeks before we can open them and try a pickle! I can't wait! Servus and bon appétit |
marcie08 Posted Aug 11, 2012, 11:53 am |
Hi Mom!
Today we went to the Vienna Movie Festival on Rathusplatz, that is the place in front of the Vienna City hall. They have a movie screen there and show musicals, classical music and operas as well as famous artists in concert. But our destination was the huge food court where you can foods from all over the world. We decided on Greek souvlaki as the main course ... nom nom nom ... and then we had apricot dumplings for dessert. They are a real Austrian speciality! That was a yummi day! My host mom told me that she wants to come back here to try the South African, Mexican and Japanese food! Servus! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 19, 2012, 8:08 pm |
Hi Mom,
today we celebrated my host mom's birthday! Yummi chocolate cake |

I arrived in Remscheid today. Photos will follow soon Love MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Aug 23, 2012, 10:06 am |
Hi Mummy,
I arrived in Remscheid today, at my new host's home. My new host is Katja and I already met more ToyVoyagers. There are Alberto from Spain, Orkku Orava from Finland and Shesh, also from Germany. I was a bit sad when I heard that Shesh and Alberto were going to leave tomorrow. But our mood cheered up when we enjoyed the delicious candy I brought with me. Thanks to marcie08 In the evening I met Katja's pets, three ferret ladies. This is Shiva: Here are Brighty and Zaehnchen. Katja told me to remain aloof because they like beef! They are cute anyway! Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Aug 23, 2012, 11:32 am |
Hi Mummy,
my host is a knitting maniac and she made her first attempt in dyeing yarn, with a procedure called "solar dyeing". You put the yarn and several ingredients like plants, flowers etc into a large jar, add water and alum .... and place it into the sun. As my host does not has a garden, she put the jar onto the window sill. Last week it was extremely hot so there already was a visible result. There are blackberries, hydrangea and juniper berries as dyeing stuff. We were really exited how the yarn would look. There is also another jar "boiling" in the sun, filled with several sorts of tea and curcuma. We freeded the first hank from the glass. The blackberries made a fantastic colour, but t he flowers did not. There is a purple part and sort of dingy cream colour. Than the colour had to be fixed. The yarn had to be heated in the microwave oven for two minutes twice. Therefor we wrapped it into plastic wrap. Afterwards the yarn had to cool down and than it was washed and hang to dry. Katja promised to make a shawlette for me with this yarn. Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Aug 30, 2012, 8:42 pm |
Hi Mummy,
have a look at the dyeing result: The colours of the hank changed while it dried on the attic. We took the wool winder and made a skein from it. Here you can see both skeins, the one which was dyed with berries and flowers, and the other one was dyed with several sorts of tea and curcuma, which made a wonderful yellow shade. Now Katja has to knit something with the yarns. Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Aug 30, 2012, 8:53 pm |
Hi Mummy,
we took a walk today in the rural districts in the West of Remscheid, knowing that the weather is not good and we will get wet sooner or later. Who cares ? I saw horses here... ...and pretty farm houses. We walked downhill through the forest until we reached river Wupper, you can see it in the background of the next photo, but I like the Galloway cattle much more We reached on of the historic districts of the neighbour city Solingen, Burg, with picturesque houses. The church of Burg is quite old, it was built in late 18th century. When we reached the town centre of Burg, it was already raining, so we walked back to the car. Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Aug 31, 2012, 10:05 am |
Hi Mummy,
we took a walk today in the district Luettringhusen, when we took Katja's friend's son to his soccer training. Luettringhausen is one of the historic districts, embedded in lovely landscape. We started in the town centre. Here is one of two churches. I like those houses which are covered with slate - they are typical for this region. There are also lots of half-timbered houses. They were mostly built in 18th und 19th century. What a lovely mail box - a reproduction of an historic mail box. We walked along a rural area with meadows than. There are a few houses hidden in the valley. We had a lot of fun here Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 4, 2012, 8:26 pm |
Hi Mummy,
today we visited my host's daughter. She is living in a district called Luettringhausen, half an hour's walk from my current home. We took a walk with her in the surroundings of Luettringhausen. We walked along the valley I already know. Katja's daughter is living close to it. Katja loves to cook jams, elderberries and blackberries are already looking great. But I think birds already had their share. We found a fantastic place in the forest - a hammer mill. Iron and steel was produced here since 15th century. Katja told us that the signs was saying something like "Hosts are responsible for curious cows". This water wheel was not working. A large millwheel was lying on the ground. (What's the porta-loo doing in the forest?) We had a closer look at it - a great place to enjoy the nice weather When we walked towards Luettringhausen, we went along a parkway. Some dozen apple trees were planted here, some of them sponsored by citizens of the city, some to commemorate celebrated public characters. From here we had to walk about ten minutes to reach the town centre of Luettringhausen. We had an ice cream as a reward for our long walk Yummy - blueberry ice-cream! Good-bye and greetings from the forest Love MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 10, 2012, 8:12 am |
Hi Mummy,
today I helped Katja to bake a delicious cake. We made a chocolate cake filled with cherries. The receipe is originally made with pears, but Katja knows that is also perfect with cherries. We needed 150 g butter, 150 g brown sugar, 3 eggs, 300 g wheat flour, 3 tsp baking soda, 4 tbls milk, 2 tbls cocoa powder, 1 tbls rum (we took cherry brandy instead), 100 g chocolate and cherries of course 150 g butter ... While Katja prepared the baking pan and the dough I melted the chocolate. ... already looking better ... For the dough you have to stirr the butter until it is soft, than add sugar and eggs, later flour with baking soda and cocoa and the liquids, than the chocolate. Put one half of the dough into the bakin pan, add cherries and fill in the rest of the dough. Bake it at 180°C for about 60 minutes. Tomorrow we will try the cake. Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 17, 2012, 1:37 pm |
Hi Mummy,
today we visited an arboretum in Wuppertal, the "Staatsforst Burgholz". An arboretum is a collection of trees, sort of a botanical garden containing living collections of woody plants intended at least partly for scientific study. We went to "Staatsforst Burgholz", a woodland area which is situated in both urban area of Wuppertal and also the urban area of Solingen, but only a small part of it. When World War II was over, there were nearly all trees felled for rebuilding of destroyed city areas and also as firewood. Searching for fast-growing forest species trees from foreign counties were planted than in this area to study their growth in local weather conditions. Plants from North America, South America, Asia and Europe were planted. There are several walking paths through the arboretum, of course we chose the longest of them, about 6 km long, displaying a variety of trees from Europe, America and Asia. At the parking lot we found a map of the arboretum area. We decided to walk along a path showing trees of Northern America. In the background, along the slope different kinds of conifers were planted. This is the sign we had to follow. You can find informations about the foreign trees. The path was covered with clover. Our path is meandering through the forest. Look how good "Chief" Emma Squirrel was looking! Finally we saw sequoia trees. This was a very interesting trip. Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 17, 2012, 1:57 pm |
Hi Mummy,
today Katja helped to me broaden my knowledges in baking. We made bread today! Our ingredients were whole spelt flour and wheat flour, yeast, salt, sugar, lukewarm water and a little bit vegetable oil. We mixed each 500 g wheat flour and spelt flour, added about 1 1/2 spoonful salt and a little bit sugar. We crumbled two lumps of yeast onto this mixture. We added about 650 ml lukewarm water and made a smooth dough. It took us about 3 minutes with the electirc mixer. Ready. Now the dough had to rest for half an hour. We covered it so it would not dry out. In the meantime I peeked under the lid ... it was raising high .... ... and higher! We had to knead the dough once more and divided it into three parts which we put on the baking tray. While baking (220°C for about 40 minutes) the breads grew once more. Enjoy! Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 17, 2012, 2:55 pm |
Hi Mummy,
today we made a fantastic trip to Gelsenkirchen in the Ruhr area. We visited a zoo there, the ZOOM-Erlebniswelt. This zoo is specialized in animals from Alaska, Africa and Asia. The whole area is divided into three parts. We started our adventure in Alaska. Nobody has to starve here. We saw several bears here: Grizzly bears, Kodiak bears and polar bears. The bear was separated from the visitors only by a thick glass panel. We entered Africa than! It is so cold today that I prefer the comfort of a heated apartment to those huts I met Ankole-Watusi cattle here. The lionesses were very lazy behind their glass panel. Zebras and antilopes were much more agil than the dozing lions... ... as well the giraffes. We entered Asia than. Here we also found a typical hut. We had a lot of fun with those monkeys, gray langurs. They were playing endlessly in their enclosure, chasing each other and climbing and jumping from their ropes and nets. What a fantastic trip! Bye MuhKuh |
olgamaus Posted Sep 30, 2012, 8:08 am |
Hi Mummy,
we had almost two weeks with really ugly weather. It was cold als also raining the whole day. Today it was a bit better, so we took a walk in the city centre when our host had her lunch break. First stop was the city hall, originally built in 1906, than partly destroyed in WW II and rebuilt afterwards in a more modern style. There is a pillar on the large place in front of it, showing a lion, the heraldic animal of Remscheid. This is the theatre, The shopping street ... ... and the central bus station. We went towards the central station, here several larger buildings were built in the last ten years. The whole station area was rebuilt from 2007 until about 2010. Back in the city centre Katja showed us this funny fountain. This is the main entrance of the shopping mall with the tower of the city hall in the background. At the end of the pedestrian area you can find this statue, two large forceps. They are a symbol for the tool producing industry here. There is a water tower close to the city hall. The silhouette of Remscheid with those two towers close together is visible from all the surrounding cities. On the right side of the next photo you can see the parking and loading zone of the shopping mall. We had to return to the work place than. Bye MuhKuh |

today it was time to say good-bye to Remscheid. Katja helped me to pack my things (passport and baking book). Of course we filled in the cake and break I learned to bake here. I am on my way to Italy now Love MuhKuh |

Hi mum,
here I'm at the "Sforzesco" Castle! It's quite interesting being here if you think that it was built in the Middle Ages...since yesterday it's possible to see the ceiling of a porch that has just been renovated: look at the red sun painted on it! Love, Muhkuh |
annix Posted Oct 29, 2012, 9:40 am |
Hi mum,
it is getting cold here and we have to do something fot all the plants on my host's terrace: we built a greenhouse where they can spend winter! It seems that they'll be fine here! Bye, Muhkuh |

Hi mum,
did you know that Bresso has an airport? It's a small one fo private planes (if you have your own plane!) and there is also a school to learn how to fly. Maybe I'll decideto try! Bye, Muhkuh |
