Merry Christmas!

Today I will start to run my travelog because I want to travel through Germany in 2012!
Thanks to fam-united and RikeH that you make this possible! :D

But now to me first. I'm Bärndt and I live with my mom for a long time and have spent every Christmas with the complete family. There were quite a lot of presents and I looked for a place on the Christmas tree for the mess, but that wasn't very comfortable.
My best friend is called "Gurke" (cucumber, the lemming) and I unfortunately can't take him on my trip while we spend so much time together. I'll miss you Gurke  ;)

But now I want to travel!

Hey hey!

Happy New Year and best wishes!

After it was celebrated extensively in the new year I was hiking with my mum in the "Ruppertsklamm"...
It was fun. It was not to cold but it has shortly rained and the sky was cloudy.
In the background is Castle Lahneck left, center is Castle Stolzenfels and right the monastery at Allerheiligenberg. You can see the river Lahn and the three mountains Taunus (left), Westerwald (right) and Hunsrück (rear center).

Today I helped to tinkering a little house for my mom. And in a scale of 1:100 or 1:200 (second one is made 12th october '11 but it's my favorit)  I'm looking gigantic!  B)

But now I'm looking forward to my first host!

Hello Mum,

Yesterday I arrived in Sülfeld. I met Dicker Kumpel -  he is my host here.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0051.jpg

He introduced me to the other TVs here – wow, there were many, but Dicker Kumpel told me, that most of them will leave soon.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0052.jpg

I saw the Christmas Tree – and decided to play in it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0056.jpg

I love the Christmas Time!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0057.jpg

Then I decided to walk around Sülfeld. Look – here is the longest nature trail for fruits in Europe.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0030.jpg

This is the old school.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0033.jpg

The mayor works here.  And you can see the emblem of Sülfeld.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0040.jpg

I liked this old door.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0041.jpg

Behind me you can see the church. Sadly It was closed, because we wanted to visit it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0042.jpg

On the other side of the street is the pharmacy.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0043.jpg

There is a way with many churches around Sülfeld – you can do it with the bike, but RikeH told me, that it was too cold for such a trip now.

Hello Mum,

It was a  nice day today – and I wanted to play in the garden.
First I met this funny guy. He likes to feed birds.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0078.jpg

The birds have this house, too. Here they find yummy food.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0080.jpg

Look – Mum – although we have winter, I found some flowers in the garden.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0086.jpg

It is cold in Sülfeld now – I sat on the ice on this well.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0087.jpg

Before I went into the house again – I made a adventurous  ride on this friendly bird.

Hello Mum,

Yesterday I played in the garden – but today I wanted to make a walk.

Can you see the little lake? Normally there is no lake, but it was very rainy during the last days.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0090.jpg

We had lovely sunny weather again.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0093.jpg

But it is winter – so the trees were not green.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0094.jpg

Can you remember the nature trail I saw last week – this is another part of it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0096.jpg

I loved the clouds in the sky.

Hello Mum,

The weather is awful! So I decided to learn something about Schleswig-Holstein. We found some facts in the web.

Schleswig-Holstein is the northernmost of the sixteen states of Germany, comprising most of the historical duchy of Holstein and the southern part of the former Duchy of Schleswig.

Its capital city is Kiel; other notable cities are Lübeck, Flensburg and Neumünster. The former English name was Sleswick-Holsatia – this sounds funny to all of us here.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0110.jpg

On the map you can see that it is really in the North of Germany. Schleswig-Holstein has a population of 2834259 people – no information about the number of ToyVoyagers living here. The are has a total of 15,763.18 square kilometres .

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0111.jpg

This is the coat of arms.  The coat of arms shows the symbols of the two duchies united in Schleswig-Holstein, i.e., the two lions for Schleswig and the leaf of a nettle for Holstein.

Supposedly, Otto von Bismarck decreed that the two lions were to face the nettle because of the discomfort to their bottoms which would have resulted if the lions faced away from it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0112.jpg

This is the flag. The blue is for the Schleswig-Part – the red and white for the Holstein-Part.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0113.jpg

On the last photo you can see a map of Schleswig-Holstein. I live in Kreis Segeberg at the moment.

It is situated under the light of the flash that you can see on the photo.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0114.jpg

Well – it was really interesting to learn so much about Schleswig-Holstein.

Yours

Hello Mum,

another sunny day in Sülfeld. We made another walk - and RikeH promised a nice surprise at the end of the walk.

First I studied this map. Today I wore a cap, because it was very cold.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0121.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0122.jpg

I loved this place - I sat in the sun and had a nice view.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0123.jpg

We crossed a little river.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0124.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0125.jpg

You can see the river behind me now.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0126.jpg

A wonderful tree.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0127.jpg

I had another rest in the sun.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0128.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0129.jpg

Then we found the big surprise. Up to now you don't know, what it is.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0130.jpg

LOOK! All little boys love tractors!

Hello Mum,

We had snow outside, so we decided to leave our chair and made a walk around Sülfeld.

You already saw most of the buildings – but not in the wintertime.

Look – there was snow  - it looked like winter!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0151.jpg

We are in the North of Germany and there are not many big hills here. So the children use this small mountain with their sledges.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0155.jpg

Behind me you can see the old school. It looks nice in the snow.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0159.jpg

The clock of the church was broken – we haven’t been there at 6 o’ clock.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0163.jpg

Mum, I know that I have my life-mission: See the most interesting architectural buildings I can find in the city of my host. To tell the truth – I saw the buildings – the old school, the church and at the beginning of my visit here - the pharmacy. Dicker Kumpel and RikeH are sorry, but there are not more interesting architectural buildings here in Sülfeld.

Back home in the garden we wanted to do something nice in the snow. We talked a lot.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0167.jpg

And here you can see what we created.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0169.jpg

Then we went inside the house – and found a great place!

Hi Mum,

today was my last day in Sülfeld. I decided to play on the playground.
First I did some horseback-riding.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0140.jpg

Then I talked with this croco.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0141.jpg

I relaxed in the sun...

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0142.jpg

...before I used...

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0143.jpg

the slide.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0144.jpg

Then I had fun on the swing.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0145.jpg

I wanted to send you some flowers, but RikeH said that photos are enough.  :D

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0138.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0139.jpg

Then it was time to say goodbye to Dicker Kumpel. We had a lot of fun together.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0174.jpg

Then all the others gave me a big hug!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%2012/A_0175.jpg

Tomorrow RikeH will bring me to ScillyHH. I don't have to travel in an envelope - lucky me!

Until soon

Today we visited Hamburg harbour. We had sunshine and the the river Elbe was full of ice.
See me on Wilhelm-bridge (Speicherstadt Hamburg).

This is an old lighthouse ship which is now used as a café.

We took a ride on a harbour ferry.

After our boat trip I was asked if I wanted to see the old Elbtunnel.
I said "Yes of course" and here are the pictures.

The Elbtunnel was build more than hundred years ago for pedestrian, cyclists and cars and connects the harbour and the city of Hamburg.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC018820056.jpg

You can go down by stairs... or use the elevator.

Here you can see the road in the tunnel.

Hi mum,

today we got a foretaste for the next weekend.
The lake Außenalster in middle of town is frozen. And there will be a great festival, the “Alstereisvergnügen” the whole weekend with thousands of people and also some ToyVoyagers.
So Scilly showed us a small lake near her home with some people which were ice-skating or playing hockey. Perhaps I can learn ice-skating?

Hi mum,

as promised Scilly, Richy and LewisHH took me to the frozen Alsterlake this weekend. In German they call it "Alstereisvergnügen". 500,000 people, a lot of dogs and two TV's were on the ice today. The last time they had this big party on the lake was 15 years ago. How lucky to be here at the right time  :D

See me in the middle of the action.

Then I sat down and tested the ice.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC019350013.jpg

My hosts had a sledge for me and it was great fun to ride over the ice. See me having fun.

Hi mum,

today we had some sunshine. So we take a short walk around the town centre.

Look at me in front of the Binnenalster, which is still frozen over. In the background you can see some of the white Alster boats.

Here you can see the Alsterarkaden and an Alster canal in the background. The Alsterarkaden is a small way with some shops and cafés along a Alster canal.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC018280023.jpg

Look, this is the town hall of Hamburg. It`s nearly a palace, isn't it?

Then Scilly and Lewis showed me the entrance hall of the town hall.

Look at me in front of a small fountain.

Here you can see me on the viewing terrace.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01976.jpg

To have a better view we used the big binocular.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01973.jpg

In the big airport hall there are a lot of travel agencies. Look at me checking out the places and prices. Where shall I fly to???

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01979.jpg

Then we took a look at the check-in gates. First Air Berlin, then Lufthansa.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC01995.jpg

See me in front of the departure boards. So many flights to so many places.

Being at the airport made me want to fly. I tried to check in at the self service machine. But there was no reservation for me :( But it was worth a try
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02000.jpg

Then we saw this lovely car at the car hire company. But they said I was to small to drive. :( Sometimes it is hard to be a small TV like me.
http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff516/ScillyHH/Toyvoyagers/DSC02002.jpg

But back at home we got a surprise! Clairchen wrote us a postcard from the isle of Amrum. See us reading the postcard.

I'm sure that I will board a plane some day.

Hi mum,
today we went to the Chocoversum, a kind of a chocolate museum.
See me in front of the museum.

Inside we saw,how the chocolate is being made.
Look at my friend Lewis and me sitting on a sack of cocoa beans.

On this scale the cocoa beans are weighed.

Here you an see some cocoa beans from Ghana. But they have a lot of different beans in the Chocoversum.

Hello Mum,

I arrived safely in Lower Saxony. Orpheus and Murph helped me out of my envelope and gave me a friendly welcome.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1404.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1405.jpg

The two guys showed me Bad Salzdetfurth. It is the hometown of Murph. Here you can see the emblem of the town.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1389.jpg

Then we went into the spa gardens. There exists a ‘Summstein’. If you sit in it and you are bumbling, your body prickles.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1381.jpg

Next to the Summstein there was a house for doves.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1383.jpg

There are 2 big salines here. People used it in the past to produce salt.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1387.jpg

Soon the spa gardens will be colorful – with many flowers. Unfortunately there weren’t many today.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1384.jpg

Bad Salzdetfurth has a lot of frame houses.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1388.jpg

There are many old machines from the mining time.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1390.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1391.jpg

A big pit wheel.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1397.jpg

On this sign you can read how they got the salt out of the ground.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1399.jpg

The last place was the trainstation of Bad Salzdeetfurth. I have no idea why it is called Kulturbahnhof.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/IMG_1400.jpg

Bad Salzdetfurth is a beautiful small town, but there are not many interesting architectural buildings in it. Murph told me that there are two really interesting buildings in Hildesheim. Maybe we will go there.

Many greetings

Hi Mum,

Today we went into the forest and searched bear’s garlic.

On our way we saw the holy spring. The water here should help against illnesses.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1352.jpg

People found 5000 years old sacrificial offerings next to the „ Appenteichquellen“. Today people sacrifice things on the small altar next to the springs.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1356.jpg

Don’t worry, Mum! I wasn’t sacrificed.

Here you can see another photo of the spring.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1357.jpg

Next to it, there were many old trees in the forest.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1361.jpg

On our way to the ear’s garlic we found these beautiful flowers. They were spring snowflakes.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1364.jpg

The bear’s garlic was too small for collecting. Maybe I can try it? With this name it should be yummy for me as a bear.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1369.jpg

Then we climbed up a mountain. This is the ruin of the Winzenburg.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Winzenburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1380.jpg

In the Past donkeys carried water from the spring to the top of the mountain, because the people in the Castle needed it. The poor donkeys – the way was really steep.

many greetings

Hi Mum,

today we drove to Derneburg to see the Laves-Path of Culture. On our way to Derneburg we saw an old wind wheel.  It belonged to a mill in the Past.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1406.jpg

Then Orpheus and Murph showed me this beautiful gate. It is the entrance to a Park. We had to stop and make photos.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1412.jpg

There was a funny guy in front of the Gate. He looked alive  - didn’t he?

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1413.jpg

This is the postbox of the Park.

There were many funny characters on the Gate. I had problems to decide which I loved most. Then I chose the seahorse.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1417.jpg

Hello Mum,

And here are the promised photos of Derneburg. The Laves-Pfad is a walking trail. You can see a lot of interesting architectural buildings of the architect G.L.F. Laves from Hannover.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1439.jpg

This is theCastle of Derneburg from one side – I will show it to you from the other side, too. It is really gigantic.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1425.jpg

This bridge had a special construction – it is called „Fischbauchträger“.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1426.jpg

I found  a new spring flower for you - the commun butterbur.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1431.jpg

Soon there will be a lot of rare birds at this lake.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1432.jpg

Look –this house stood in the water!

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1433.jpg

There were many fishermen houses next to the lakes.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1436.jpg

And now – there was a pyramid in the middle of lower Saxony. It is a mausoleum. The first owner of the Castle is buried there with his family.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1441.jpg

This temple was used as a tea house in the Past.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1444.jpg

Now you can see the Castle again – but from another view.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1446.jpg

On our way back we saw this wonderful Castle. It was the Castle Söder. We were not allowed to go near to it. It is in private hands.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Derneburg%20Mae%202012/IMG_1449.jpg

What a wonderful trip!

Hello Mum,

Today it was the last day with of Orpheus here. In the morning we went into the forest and searched mushrooms and flowers.

The spring is coming! There were many blooming flowers in the forest. These small flowers didn’t bloom last week – they are kidneyworts.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1499.jpg

Daphne mezereum is a wonderful shrub, but very poisonous.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1504.jpg

These mushrooms are eatable. I didn’t find the English names – but the Latin name is Gyromitra ancilis.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1519.jpg

You know the next flower, I think. It helps with cough: it is a Coltsfoot.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1513.jpg

These small mushrooms grow on the cones of the spruce. So their name is sprucecone caps and they are eatable, too.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1524.jpg

The last thing that Murph showed me was the early purple orchis. Unfortunately it didn’t bloom now.
Unfortunately I won’t be here when it starts blooming.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1491.jpg

At home we had a look at the adventures of Orpheus and Murph.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1463.jpg

In the evening we had a farewell-party for Orpheus.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1475.jpg

But then it was time to say goodbye to Orpheus and he climbed into his envelope.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Orpheus%20Mae%202012/IMG_1482.jpg

I hope that Orpheus will have a great time with his next host!

Hallo Mum,

Today I went to the park of the monastery Lamspringe. The monastery is really big.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1545.jpg

The Lammequelle started her life here in the park. The Lamme flows through Bad Salzdetfurth.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1529.jpg

There are two big lakes in the park.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1533.jpg

I found a very rare flower here  – the yellow star of Bethlehem.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1535.jpg

This was the other lake. Behind me you can see a part of the monastery.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1536.jpg

There was an old mill in the park with a water wheel. They repair the wheel at the moment – so it didn’t move.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1540.jpg

I found something interesting – in the past criminals got rings like this around their necks. Then they were in the pillory.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Abschied%20Baerndt%20Mae%202012/IMG_1543.jpg

We found this funny statue next to the abbey. The man carried his head in his hands.

It is a wonderful abbey with a wonderful garden!

Hello Mum,

It was my last day in lower saxony – and we went into the forest and searched bear’s garlic.

Many flowers were blooming. I saw many wood anemones.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1618.jpg

I really loved these cowslips.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1607.jpg

The whole forest was full of bear’s garlic.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1610.jpg

We started to pick the bear’s garlic. I was too small for the knife, but Murph helped me.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1612.jpg

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1615.jpg

Ui, it stunk!

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1616.jpg

Look – I found yellow wood anemones.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1624.jpg

The next flowers smelt wonderful. They were  sweet violets.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1625.jpg

Maybe you know this plant. In Germany people often use the baby’s breath for punch.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1620.jpg

I enjoyed the sunshine between the blossoms of the  hawthorn.

http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb347/HoBi666/Badse%20Maerz%202012/Baerlauch/IMG_1630.jpg

Before I have to leave for my next adventure, we were allowed to help Noisy making eggnog.

We took 12 eggs from her chicken
and put the yellow of the eggs in a big bowl.
Than we sifted the powdered sugar and a little bit vanillesugar.
Than we must mix it looooong time to be very creamy.
Now we poured in the Cognac and the whipped cream.
After that we put the bowl into the refrigerator for about 2 hours , than we could have  a nip ( uiuiui) and poured it into little bottles.

Mom, I will send one of it to you, okay?

My first excursion brought me to Gotha, a town about 15 kilomters from Mechterstädt.

Gotha is very old and its history dates back to the 8th century.

I saw the castle Friedenstein which was built by Ernst I of
Saxe-Gotha (later Altenburg), "The Pious",  in the 17th century.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020143.jpg

Down castle  hill towards the city center I saw these beautiful wells ('Wasserkunst').

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020146.jpg

And the red town hall looks very nice too. It used to be a department store.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020149.jpg

And then I came across this Pyramide. I thought that it is strange to
find a pyramide here in Thuringia. The secret is that it is a tomb for
Marshall Studnitz who had it built in his garden.

Hello from Eisenach!

We went there today. It is about 15km from the village and my host goes there quite often. Today she showed me a little of the town famous for Luther and Bach.

We started at the Bach House, a museum today. You can see the old part where Johann Sebastian Bach was supposedly born. A new house was added some time ago.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020192.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020194.jpg

Then we went to the Luther House, where Martin Luther lived when he was a school child. It is a museum today, too.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020205.jpg

We carried on and went to the market square with the Georgen Church and the town hall and the town castle.
Eisenach is a nice town!

Hello mommy!

Today I visited one of the landmarks in Thuringia: Wartburg Castle.
We went there because my host took part in a choir concert in the castle palace.

Since 1999 Wartburg Castle has been an UNESCO world heritage site.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020244.jpg

But before I show you some pics of the castle here is the view of
Eisenach city on our way up.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020250.jpg

And here I am, in front of Wartburg castle.
It was founded in the 11th century, so it is pretty old.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020247.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020249.jpg

When we entered the castle grounds we saw a poster for the concert.
There were many people with colorful T-Shirts, the singers.

The concert took place in the Palace, a romanesque site.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020263.jpg

The chairs are still empty but in an hour over 200 visitors will listen
to the concert - me too!

I tried something special for dinner today
- a recipe from a South African cook book: Peanut soup with
coconut.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020340.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020307.jpg

Here are all the ingredients I need to cook it.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020305.jpg

First I need to chop the carrots and leek and  dice the onion.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020308.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020312.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020323.jpg

Everything goes into the pot.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020317.jpg

Next it's 75ml of dry white wine.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020320.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020328.jpg

Now it already looks like a soup. I have to add the peanuts and the coconut though.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020331.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020336.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020334.jpg

After some more time for simmering the soup is ready. Yummy!

Enjoy the meal!

Even though I have been in Mechterstädt for quite a while I have not had time to see the village.
Today I took a little tour - a very little tour since there is not much to see and it was raining.
Only 1000 people live here.

There are 2 restaurants:

This weekend we went to Frankfurt/Main for the German Choir Festival.

But first we got ready for our trip and packed our bag.
Or rather we were packed into the bag :)

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020359.jpg

enough to eat because we brought a 'SingerSurvivalPackedLunch'.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Baerndt/P1020361.jpg

We did not see much of Frankfurt except the 'Jahrhunderthalle'
where my host and the choir had rehearsals and where the big
concert on Saturday evening took place.

I also saw the beer mug storage - some people have their own beer mugs and they are stored in shelve (with locks on it!). After work my hosts takes me to nice walks - today I am walking along the Isar river, right in the city center. There is a nice, old building that looks interesting - it is the Müller'sche Volksbad, an art deco building, inside it is a swimming-pool. My host says it is nice to swim and see golden paintings and ornaments on the ceiling.

Three times during the year there is the "Auer Dult" (Fair in the Au - Au is a Munich city quarter). It is right in the front of a church on Mariahilfplatz and really huge. They sell loads of household stuff and deco things there.

Hello Mummy, I safely arrived in BERLIN! :D
I was welcomed by my host Marie and Klea, her cute guinea pig. Marie showed me round her flat and I could see many interesting and cool things. Then I helped her to learn for Latin and German because she has two tests tomorrow. I think I was a good helper :).
I'm really looking forward to my time here.

We arrived at our hotel and went in our room: It looked very nice! :)
If I looked out of the window I had a wonderful view over a part of Hamburg.
Finally Marie told me what we are going to do here: We will visit the Musical "König der Löwen" ("The Lion King"). So cool! :D :D

In the evening we went to the port of Hamburg. There a ferry fetched us and brought us to the theatre where the musical took place.  Unfortunately it was not allowed to take photos during the musical. So you can only see a picture of me and the empty stage, sorry for that :(.
But it was FANTASTIC!! The songs, the costumes, the actors,... simply perfect :D. Can you visit another musical with me, Mummy?

Hi Mum,
on our last day in Hamburg we visited the "Chocoversum", a chocolate museum. There was so much to see! I learned how a cocoa bean looks like, how chocolate is produced and which machines are used to produce it, how they work and so on. And I ate chocolate, of course. ;)

You surely know Michel aus Lönneberga, who originally was called Emil of Lönneberga. Astrid Lindgren began to write about him in 1963. Today we wanted to follow the way of Astrid Lindgren.

Hässleby kyrka was built between 1857 and 1859. First there was a wooden church before the was an ancient stone church. This could have been the church, which Michel's (Emil)'s sister had seen from the top of the flagpole. In the book she said, that she could see the church of Mariannelund.

Then we drove to Katthult, where Emil/Michel lived. Katthults real name is Gibberyd and have been in the same familys possession since the 19th century. It was a normal swedish farm until 1970, when a production team went up and asked for a premission to record a film a the sight.

I really don't know, what happened to the photo of the house and me, but I can't find it:(

Here I'm in the shed, where Michel/Emil carved his wooden figures.

The Rumskullaeken (named after the town Rumskulla) or Kvilleken (named after the hamlet Norra Kvill) is a common oak [Quercus robur] close to the National Park Norra Kvill in Småland in Sweden. It is between 900 and over 1000 years old.

With an extent of 13 to 14.75 meters in breast hight the Kvilleken is known as the oldest and biggest tree of Sweden and one of the oldest and biggest, if not the oldest and biggest oak of Europe.

The trunk is half dead. These parts are fixed with ropes to the rest of the trunk. The area around the tree is fenced.

The Kvilleken was first mentioned in year 1772 by Magnus Gabriel Craelius in his book Försök till ett landskaps beskrivning.

Vimmerby is a city and the seat of Vimmerby Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden with 7,934 inhabitants in 2010. Vimmerby had its charter as early as the fourteenth century. The main street, Storgatan, still has the shape in which it was built in the medieval time. There are also many old wooden houses in the city.

Vimmerby is currently a tourist attraction due to historical links with Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002). When Astrid Lindgren wrote her books about the country boy Emil in Lönneberga she used much information from her own upbringing in the rural areas of Vimmerby.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8314/8059307605_9b3491297d.jpg

Astrid Anna Emilia Ericsson was born here, at the farm at Näs in Vimmerby more than 100 years ago. Her father was tenant farmer at the rectory.

This is where Astrid climbed in the "lemonade tree", played with her siblings, jumped in the hay and listened to stories in Kristin´s kitchen.

Her childhood home is still intact. The house is open for guided tours all year round.

Today we drove to Växjö, which has a population of about 64,200, out of a municipal total of 83,000 inhabitants.

In contrast to what was believed a century ago, there is no evidence of a special pre-Christian significance of the site. The pagan cultic center of Värend may have been located at Hov, a village nearby.

Växjö got its city charter in 1342.

Växjö Cathedral (Swedish: Växjö domkyrka) in the centre of Växjö, Sweden, is the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Växjö in the Church of Sweden. Saint Sigfrid allegedly lived and died in Växjö, and was buried in the cathedral at his death.

Nässjö was for a long time only a rural village with agriculture as the dominant occupation. The turning point was the construction of the Swedish railway system. The southern main line railway, finished in 1864, passed through Nässjö. Later, other railways were inaugurated, whereby Nässjö, due to its geographical location in the country, became an important junction.

Nässjö is the only city in Sweden, where still six differnet railroad lines meet.

The Match Musem in Jönköping is the worlds only. It is located in the beautiful building that once was the first match factory in Jönköping.

In the museum, living match history is told. Encounter the people and machines that built up the match industy and developed it into a global operation.

Johan Edvard Lundström was born in 1815 in the town of Jönköping, Sweden. Johan Edvard is most of all recognized to have improved the safety match and made it possible to commercially exploit it.

I will show you parts of the old way to produce match sticks. It was really hard work, which had harmful effects for health.

Ljungby is a city with 15,205 inhabitants in 2010. Much of the town centre was destroyed in a fire in 1953. The (at the time) modern style of the rebuilding characterized by e.g. Hotel Terazza remains controversial locally.

In 1986, Metallica bassist Cliff Burton died in a bus accident close to Ljungby. There is a memorial stone by the Gyllene Rasten parking.

We walked over a bridge, which leads over the river Lagan. Read, what we've read on two signs:

Today we enoyed a great day in Kalmar.

Kalmar is a city in Småland in the south-east of Sweden, situated by the Baltic Sea. It had 36,392 inhabitants in 2010.

From the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries, Kalmar was one of Sweden's most important cities. Between 1602 and 1913 it was the episcopal see of Kalmar Diocese, with a bishop, and the Kalmar Cathedral from 1702 is still a fine example of classicistic architecture. It became a fortified city, with the still mighty Kalmar Castle as the center. After the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, Kalmar's importance diminished, until the industry sector was initiated in the 19th century.

Geographically Kalmar is the main route to the island of Öland thanks to the Öland Bridge.

Later we visited Krustenstiernska Garden and had a picknick there. The first thing, that you see of the garden, is a high wooden wall and closed doors. But at 11am the doors were opened and everyone is allowed to come in. There are many tables and chairs and you just can sit down and eat things, that you brought with you.

After this rest we had a little sightseeing tour in Kalmar. We've seen the lighthouse and the cathedral inside and outside.

Interesting for us to see was, that in Sweden it is common to have a special corner for children, where they can sit and play. Two plushy guys invited us to sit on their table and told us a lot about their life in the cathedral.

The weather is fine, so we decided to drive to Öland to visit the old castle in Borgholm and the new palace Solliden.

At first we stopped at this place, but still aren't really knowing, what it is, because we don't understand Swedish.

Then we arrived at Borgholm castle. We were there for nearly three hours and walked back and forth and took many photos.

Because Solliden was still closed, we drove to the city then and enjoyed walking through the streets.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8483/8188424662_5261976955.jpg

Solliden Palace is the summer residence of the Swedish Royal Family. Queen Viktoria let it build from 1903 to 1906.  King Carl XVI. Gustaf inherited it as a four year old. The palace itself is closed, but during summer you can visit the palace garden, if the royal family isn't there.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8198/8188420196_e0f09f1de3.jpg

Then we drove to the coast on the east side. We've seen the big cross and the remains of a chapel.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8069/8188417632_477c80443c.jpg

These are the remains of St. Brita's Chapel, the largest chapel in Öland. Although associated with St. Bridget (Brigitta) the chapel was the Celtic St. Brigida to begin with. The chapel was 27 metres long and 12 metres wide and it was probably built on account of the growning numbers of visitors attracted by the market here at Sikavarp.

It was getting so cold and windy, that we hurried back into the car. Of course one sign we weren't allowed to miss while being in Sweden. See this one:

Gränna is a small town with about 2,553 inhabitants in 2010. It was  founded in 1652 by Count Per Brahe. The town is situated at the foot of Gränna mountain and is characterized by its steep streets and old wooden houses.

Gränna is known for its red and white polkagris (literally "polka pig" in Swedish) stick candy, also known as peppermint rock.

The balloonist Salomon August Andrée, who died in an attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon, was born in Gränna. The Grenna Museum hosts an exhibition of the expedition together with a comprehensive collection of related objects and photos.

Visingsö is an island in the southern half of the lake Vättern in Sweden.

Visingsö lies 30 km north of the city Jönköping and 6 km west of Gränna from which two car ferries connects the island. The island is 14 km long and 3 km wide, with a total area of 24 km².

According to legend, a giant named Vist created Visingsö by throwing a lump of soil into the lake so that his wife could use it to step over the lake.

I took photos of the signs next to the castle, so it is easier to imagine, how it looked like and to get to know something about the history of the castle. I'm sorry, but I'm not included in these three photos.
The second link is only in German, sorry.

In the early afternoon we left our Swedish house and started to drive home. We had decided to stay in Frederikssund in Denmark overnight.

On our way to Frederikssund we had to drive through Copenhagen or København (Danish pronunciation: [kʰøb̥m̩ˈhɑʊ̯ˀn], which is the capital of Denmark and its most populous city, with an urban population of 1,213,822 (as of 1 January 2012) and a metropolitan population of 1,947,944 (as of 1 October 2012). We had a short stop at the railway station. Wow, this is a big city, really crowded and we all were happy, when we had been out of the city again. Nevertheless it seemed, that there are some nice places, which would be worth to see one day.

Today we visited the park around Jaegerspris castle, called Jaegerspris slot.

Jægerspris is a town and a former municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region Hovedstaden. It lies in the northern part of the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark. A significant portion of the north end of Jægerspris is covered by forest. There are also stretches of sand and dunes along the municipality's western side.

The town of Jægerspris has a population of 4,065 (1 January 2011) and lies 6 km. northwest of Frederikssund. The town was established ca. 1870 around Jægerspris Castle, which is surrounded by kilometres of hiking and biking trails in the Jægerspris forest.

We are back in Germany and stayed one night at a hotel called Stadtschänke. The hotel is in Walsrode and there are several nice places around Walsrode as there are the Rischmannshof Heath Museum, the Walsrode Bird Park and Lüneburg Heath. Nevertheless we only were in the hotel, had dinner and fell in our bed as you can see. We slept all night and then drove home to Bruchsal again.

When we were at home again, we needed some time to relax, because it was a long travel. But today we had to go to Karlsruhe.

Karlsruhe is the third largest city of Baden-Württemberg, near the Franco-German border.

Karlsruhe was founded in 1715 as Karlsruhe Palace, when Germany was a series of principalities and city-states. The town surrounding the Palace became the seat of two of the highest courts in Germany, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht) whose decisions have the force of a law in many cases, and the Federal Court of Justice of Germany (Bundesgerichtshof), the highest court of appeals in matters of civil law and criminal law. It therefore considers itself the home of justice in Germany, a role taken over from Leipzig after 1945.

Washington's city planner, had been given the plans of Karlsruhe (among numerous other European cities) as an inspiration.

At first we visited the Bothnical Garden.

The Turmberg (German: "Tower Hill") is a hill (elevation: 256 m) located in Durlach, a suburb of Karlsruhe in Germany. It is home to a castle ruin.

The Turmberg can be reached by the Turmbergbahn, a funicular railway. The original railway used water to weight the rail cars, but now it is run on electric.

This is written on the sign:
This tower is the remain of the ancient castle, which was built by Count von Hohenberg during the 1100s, extended during the 1200s and destroyed by Konrad von Lichtenberg, bishop of Strasbourg in 1279 A.D.
This tower was built between 1230 A.D. and 1250 A.D.

I really waited for this day. I wished to see more of Bruchsal and finally we went out to go to the sightseeing places.

Bruchsal has about 42 000 inhabitants, if you also count those in the five suburbs, which are Heidelsheim, Helmsheim, Untergrombach, Obergrombach and Büchenau. It was first mentioned in 796 A.D., but there had been an older settlement. 80 % of Bruchsal had been destroyed during World War II. on 1rst of March 1945. So you hardly find really old places.

Here you see the tower of the old part of Bruchsal's hospital. In the building you find different doctors. The hospital is in a newer part.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8216905776_beb22ce72e.jpg

Just turning on your heels you can see the interesting building of Bruchsal's prison. The prison, constructed ca. 1848, is nicknamed the Cafe with Eight Corners or "Cafe Achteck". Today it is a high security institution and predominantly houses individuals convicted of violent crimes and convicted terrorists, such as members of the Red Army Faction.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8346/8216905696_9a2e9be93a.jpg

Schloss Bruchsal is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Germany and the only episcopal Baroque residence on the Upper Rhine. The foundation stone was laid in 1722 by Cardinal Damian Hugo von Schönborn, Prince Bishop of Speyer, who made the palace the centre of his absolutist dominion.
After being almost completely destroyed in the final days of World War II, the main tract was painstakingly reconstructed according to the original design and work was completed in 1975, including the magnificent dome, Marble Hall and Prince's Hall. The staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann is considered to be an architectural tour-de-force and has been described as the "finest staircase in the world".

Back part of the palace, first photo with the tower of the church St. Damian and Hugo, which sadly isn't baroque anymore.

The Belvedere on the edge of the "Stadtgarten" was built by Leonhard Stahl in 1756 as a hunting lodge for Prince Bishop Franz Christoph von Hutten. The location was chosen so that the lodge would command an unspoiled view of the palace, town and Rhine rift valley beyond.

Especially worthy of note are the two towers, each of which has a viewing platform topped with a Chinese-style baldachin – an example of the fashion for chinoiserie prevalent at that time. Today, the Belvedere is used as a venue for concerts and theatre productions.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8062/8215815397_fffd6eb756.jpg

At top of the Andreasstaffel, high stairs, you have a great view over Bruchsal. The houses below belong to the oldest part of Bruchsal. You also can see the tower of the ancient castle and of two churches (from left).

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8216896844_cf7e343665.jpg
