My host tells me that a long time ago, Pilgrims came to America, from England, to get away from religious persecution and the Native Americans helped them survive on the land and taught them many things. Religious persecution is the mistreatment of people because of their religious beliefs. The Pilgrims actually thought that this was India, which is why they called the Native Americans "Indians". There was a big feast that the Pilgrims and "Indians" had together in late November, but no one knows exactly when, so now Thanksgiving Day is on the fourth Thursday in November.

There was more history in this time including the Native Americans being forced off their land. Oklahoma is part of the Trail of Tears where Native Americans were marched into reservations and many of them died. This part of the history is quite terrible and sad. However, they still celebrate Thanksgiving Day in America and it's all about giving thanks for what you have and being with your family.

I got to enjoy Thanksgiving with my Host Amelia and several other TV's and we all helped out with making dinner...

Mischa's Paul
Katie's Charles
MamiTig's Myka
Ina's Schnattchen

I arrived just in time to help make more Steampunk ornaments for the xmas tree. We are all helping to put it up this weekend. There is so much creativity going on here!

It was a lot of fun decorating the xmas tree, but later we're going to move everything to a white tree. A lot of the Steampunk ornaments are dark, so it's not as easy to see all the details on the ornaments. I think the white tree will be way better! I love white... it reminds me of home <3

We put some presents under the xmas tree that we've been helping to make for other toyvoyagers who are spending xmas with us. One of these presents is for me too. Toki and my host made something for me last night while I was sleeping. I wonder what I am getting?

It's getting cold here, but no snow yet. My host has been sneaking out of the house a few minutes early each morning to try and catch frost. It frosted outside one day, but hasn't frosted again. She really wants to get a photo of me near some frost flakes.

We're still working on presents, since xmas is only about 2 weeks away, and we get the white xmas tree this weekend. I am hoping to have more photos this weekend!

I love the fish and sushi xmas ornaments! They are very glittery but festive. They make me so hungry!

So, on another topic, I met some of the my host's toys today. I met her only penguin Slopey. He was named for his slopey beak. Amelia, my host, perfers to adopt the damaged toys that otherwise might be bought last or thrown out. She likes to fix them, but sometimes she leaves them the way they are because they give them character. My host has a lop sided smile because of a damaged nerve in her face, so she feels like Slopey's smile is like hers. I thought this story was very sweet!

I, also, met Snoopy who's a cartoon celebrity. I met Marc the Lemur, Zhevra the zebra, Leo the leopard seal, Starshine (the smaller snowman), and Holiday (the bigger snowman).

And then I snuck into a photo with Myka and bunch of the black and white toys!

We decorated the Christmas Tree today. My host Amelia made all the ornaments herself, with the exception of a few sentimental ornaments. Tannen the Bedtime Bear ornament is one of the toys that lives here.

I posed in Jane's Hat, from the tv series Firefly. It's an old series that didn't last long, but they have a lot of fans.

The household decided to open presents early this year. They wanted plenty of time to play with thier presents over the weekend. Everyone in the house caught a terrible cold, so presents made everyone feel better too.

So, we toyvoyagers decided to open presents too! I love my presents so much! My host handmade my clothes for me. I got a crochet scarf, a vest, and a great top hat. They all fit me so well and make me feel like a dashing penguin!

Oh, and it's supposed to snow this weekend. We'll see!

Look! SNOW!!!

Oklahoma had it's first snow of the season tonight. Granted, it was more of a flurries than a full fledged snow and it was gone before morning... but it was very winter and cold. It almost reminded me of home... almost.

We played with a bunch of Steampunk stuff and we had fun! They have a more western style steampunk here in Oklahoma. They like pistols, flintlocks, and the worn "old" look... poker cards... that sort of thing. It's pretty neat!

And the lovely lady in the photos with me is Sookie <3

Host mom had just a little extra time this morning, so she took us to a place called Twin Trestles on the way to work. The railroads used to come through here, but they don't any more. The local teenagers use this as a party hangout in the summer, and when it rains in the spring, it floods and the road is impassible. It is said to be haunted. Host mom said she'll bring us back here some time when there's more time to explore and look at all the graffiti.

Host mom said there are a variety of interesting water towers all over Kansas, and I might get to see more in the future! :)

Host mom took us to see another water tower, in Gas City. It's called Gas (or Gas City) because there was a lot of natural gas mined here in the late 1800s. The water tower is painted to look like a giant gas can!

Host mom took me outside to get some fresh air, and told me a little about the house next door. The kids say that it is haunted. It belonged to a little old man, who was about 95 years old when his children decided that he needed more care and he moved in, across town, with his daughter. The house had fallen into considerable disrepair, but was purchased last summer and it's in the beginning stages of renovation. They cleared away what seemed like an entire forest of trees and weeds, and put on a new roof. We can't wait to see what they do next!

The second day of family camp was just as amazing as the first! We started with a yummy breakfast and morning worship. Then the host family went horseback riding. We didn't get to see that because host mom was worried we'd get lost or hurt. Then we had lunch, played in the basement, and then we had to wait while the host family went ziplining. We got to see the equipment, but again, we had to stay behind because host mom was worried for our wellbeing. In the late afternoon, we played on the beach at the Tuttle Creek reservoir and that was so  relaxing!

It was a mostly quiet night, but there was an electromagnetic field that hovered in one room for over half an hour that had no explainable source we could figure out! Some women felt their hair pulled and backpacks pulled on, and then could not initially leave the tunnel below the castle. They got really spooked, but host mom and her daughter didn't experience any thing scary! For more pictures of their experience, you can click here!
