I'm on the way to the Philippines. Amazing! |
abbyaguas Posted Dec 14, 2011, 5:16 pm |
Hello Mom,
Have you been worried about my travel? Well, I'm glad to let you know that I have finally arrived! An angry bird even surrounded me when I reached here in the Philippines! Well, he sure did celebrated the day that I first arrived here.
That's me, just awakening from my travel.
Abby was very delighted with the candy that you've shared to her
I'm going to take a rest now! I'm just so tired! Tomorrow, Abby told me that I'm going with her to her Class Christmas Party! Yippee
|
abbyaguas Posted Dec 14, 2011, 6:36 pm |
Finally, I have been out of the plastic and breathing fresh air again! The weather here is warm and humid.
Abby visited her friend's house, which also serves as a church in their community. (oooh, it's dark in here) (lights please) There you go.. As I entered, I was welcomed into a bench made out of bamboo! And even met Abby's SUPPOSED to be Toy Traveller. Her friends started to prepare food for the Christmas Celebration, and I eventually got curious. I decided to take a peep While they cook, I got the opportunity to hold Abby's gift for the Exchange Gift part of the program. She told me that it was a book that she wanted for herself. So much for that, we went next to going to the Quezon Memorial Circle, the landmark of Quezon City. (HEY look! I'm actually touching the top!) Since Abby's other classmates are nowhere in sight, they decided to look for them... leaving me and Abby to guard their belongings. (This one reminds me of Narnia... and the lamp post there) Over here, we've got a pot of cooked hot rice. and oohhh, look at that! The sun is setting down. Night Time! Behind me are the food the class have accumulated, to be shared later. Together with Janine, Abby's close friend At this part, the cake is dedicated to Jesus. They are all going together! And look, they have made me guest They had a BOODLE Fight! Eating with bare hands is something that I am particularly new. And now that I'm full... I'm just going to sit here in the skateboard. The tower changes colors from time to time. Here I have witnessed it from blue to green. I got to hang out with some of the group. Can you see where I am? And this is the most important part of the celebration: It was a blast! Abby's classmates were funny, and loves food. This was a time to bond. More adventures to come here in my journey at the Philippines |
abbyaguas Posted Dec 17, 2011, 4:17 pm |
Abby decided to let me come with her at school. It was their last day, and I'm excited. There were only a few students since Christmas break is tomorrow.
That's her bag over there, and Jay is always with her. I noticed that their classrooms have different colors. The Sun! I feel the heat (Going to smile for this one) Abby's classmate writes "Happy Vacation!" Meet Ate Rhian, Abby's friend in her organization. (Oh no, I'm being eaten!! Help) Meeting another bear Ate Rhian jumps with me! The jumping was tiring! Ate Rhian, and Ate Fherlie... Both of them are in their 20s. I just noticed that the sun is setting down. Just a random view from the 6th floor. Some buildings.. that's another city. and finally the SUN! Checking my heart if it's still fine and it is |
abbyaguas Posted Dec 24, 2011, 12:47 am |
This night, Abby's family went to the movies! Oooh
I saw Happy Feet! And this guy is called "Panday" or blacksmith in english. See the line? The Snaxx and near it is where you buy the tickets. Abby forgot the names of these guys, but at least we had pictures with them. The movie starts at 7:15 pm. So while we're waiting, we decided to eat dinner.
Dining at Taco Bell!
It's my first time to eat a Burrito! Yum
After the movies, we walked for a while and saw a poinsettia.
What lovely Christmas balls! They're hanging from the ceiling.
Inside the elevator
Just walking around Cubao....
Inside the mall, at the ground floor. That's Ali, the boxer. Just shocked to know that this tree that you see here is a handmade one . And here's the official welcome to AliMall, named after the boxer. This mall was very famous in the 90s. A Restaurant that I fancied. And that's Santa Claus over there...Sinong kasama mo ngayong Pasko? literally means Who's with you this Christmas? Some snowflakes lighted..
I find them nice!
We went to McDonalds to have a short eat. Got motivated to eat one. And I did have one! My first time riding in a jeep... Making sure that I hang on for the ride.

Welcome to the Polytechnic University of the Philippines! It's a Sunday, and plus, it's the Christmas break. There are very few people inside this vast university.
Here you can see The Obelisk, standing majestic on its base, which depicts the strength of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines as an institution of higher learning, promoting educational and moral aims which are fortified by a determined leadership with a clear vision for the Filipino youth and an efficient support system inspired by the virtues of public service. (just copied and pasted that... hehe The building with the red roof is called The Interfaith Chapel, while the building with the 6 floors is called "Main". You can see the Philippine flag on the pole, and a belen over there. Here I am, Caroline, on the 6th floor, and we saw a Christmas tree and a Parol. Might as well grab a chance to take a picture with it. And now, the different Parols! This one is made of "Banig", and woven, with red fans on the outside. The star is made from the bottles of Yakult. I like this one. It's because.... .... it's made of popcorn! There are more parols made by the students, by it's hard to visit them all. And now, I'm here in a Christmas wreath, with a picture on it. The story is, the department will accumulate 3,000 gifts from the students voluntarily, and then they will be given to children. This was from last year's photo. Abby let me sneak into the small office of their organization. I have went here before. Then later... THE BANAUE RICE TERRACES!! A former wonder of the world, and now a UNESCO site. I didn't get there physically, but I can't help stare its majestic beauty in aerial view. Abby's mom is pointing to the sign. It says "Ayala Triangle". Oh, so that's where we are heading. Going up! Entering... AND now, we're here. Just enjoying A Closer View... ooh, there's another belen! |

I had one of my last dinners, before I go back to the country.
Abby's mom cooked "Sinigang sa Hipon" and "Galunggong" or Hard-tail mackerel/round scad in english. Both are Filipino dishes. The Galunggong is usually cooked as food for the cats, but we do eat them when we want to eat more. It is usually pan-fried and served with white rice. |
abbyaguas Posted Apr 18, 2012, 12:46 am |
After going from Church, that afternoon, we had ice cream... because it was soooo hot! I got a Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Cone from Dan and Eric's.
Here, you can see this old tree. Abby told me that her late grandfather planted this in the year 1952, so it's 60 years old already. This tree is becoming rare nowadays, as you cannot see its fruit anywhere in the market. It's called a "mabolo" in Filipino. Velvet Apple in English. It has its own unique taste. This is a view of their house. That's the second floor you can see there. And now, I am here to relax together with my other fellow toys. |
abbyaguas Posted May 24, 2012, 7:30 pm |
This is the first time that I had attended a debut. Abby's classmate, Renelene celebrated her 18th birthday at their house. Since there were lots of people inside their tiny home near under the railways, it was hard to get good shots.
As usual, a plate and utensils. The birthday cake and I got to ride a trolley They are small carts pushed by guys, and you travel in the railways of the train. Somehow dangerous when you cross the river, as there are no railings there. Yikes! |
abbyaguas Posted May 24, 2012, 7:45 pm |
Hello!
Today, I went with Abby as she ventures for a camp in Iba, Zambales for free. I am so excited, as I will finally get to ride a bus. Comfortably sitting in top of bags, with a pillow from Shiela, my host's classmate and seatmate. This is a random view after arriving in Zambales. Loads of grass here. The stuff we got from submitting the Registration Card. I was able to get a shot with the registration card, but it contains personal information. The beds here are triple decked! I'm in the middle. The theme was Avengers, and I find it pretty cool! This shot was taken in a party like manner. and after this.... I got lost. |

Chloe09 Posted Jul 26, 2012, 7:11 pm |
Oh what a wonderful day I had!!! We made cupcakes! Host mom is Gluten Free - can't have wheat or the complex of proteins that forms when wheat flour is mixed with a liquid and physically manipulated, such as in the kneading of bread.
Sir Jim and I were in charge of putting the cupcake liners in position in the pan. We think we did a good job! That was an awesome snack before our next trip to Downtown Minneapolis to see big beautiful buildings. |
Chloe09 Posted Jul 27, 2012, 10:03 pm |
Downtown Minneapolis is filled with big buildings, lots of people and noise!!!
This is the Minneapolis City Hall. It occupies an entire city block and has about 680,000 gross square feet. The building is an architectural treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed by Long and Keys Architects. The building also features a 15-bell chime and is the only American made set that can play the "Star Spangled Banner" in the original key. Every hour, quarter, and half-hour you will hear the bells of the tower. The bells were manufactured in New York and weigh from 300 to 7,300 pounds each -- over 14 tons total. This building is the Hennepin County Court House. Little bit of information about it! It was pretty cool. The Hennepin County Courthouse, located in the Hennepin County Government Center, was completed in 1974. It was designed by John Carl Warnecke and Associates of San Francisco, with Peterson, Clark and Associates of Minneapolis. The masonry is the same carnelian red granite from Ortonville, MN, that was used in building the Minneapolis City Hall, where the courthouse used to be located. The diagonal braces of the modern building are steel sprayed with a fireproofing material to which a cream-colored porcelain-type material was fused. The building's total cost was about $50 million, with $1.6 million more spent after completion on making necessary window changes, fitting an additional floor for courtrooms, and installing glass walls on atrium floors and walkways. This is the Public Safety building. It's a jail!! Here's some information Chloe09 told us about it! The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office operates the largest pre-trial adult detention facility (commonly called the jail) in the State of Minnesota. Jail facilities are located in two different buildings in downtown Minneapolis, but are treated as one facility: The Public Safety Facility (PSF) has 330 beds for arrestees. The City Hall (ADC) has 509 beds for arrestees. On average each year, there are approximately 40,000 bookings at the jail. The jail is currently staffed for a capacity of 703 beds, and the average population in 2009 was 694. The jail has consistently earned the distinction of being accredited by the American Correctional Association for maintaining the highest standards of inmate custody and care. This is the United States District Courthouse. The history of the judicial system in Minnesota begins in 1849 when the first territorial court term was held in Stillwater, Minnesota. The U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota was not established until nine years later when Minnesota became a State in 1858. Something cool is coming up next! Chloe09 said us girls get to go do something special!! I wonder what it could be?! |
