Hi there!
Today is the last day of summer and a great day in the Old Town - it's "Sostinės dienos 2012"! This weekend is dedicated to Lithuania's capital city Vilnius (in Lithuanian it's "sostinė"). You can see a big fair, many free concerts and other cool stuff going on! We left our car near the mall and went to the Old Town. Here you can see me on the White Bridge, posing next to the "New Town" buildings: There are many games that people can play on the street: And funny pictures where you can insert your face, haha! We also listened to one band, the music was really nice: Here I am near the Lithuania's National Drama Theatre. You can see three ladies (sculpture) near the entrance: Look! It's The Cathedral and The Bell Tower - one of the most famous buidings in Vilnius, the heart of the Old Town. It's soo beautiful!! We also saw a great expo of pictures from all over the world: A nice surprise was waiting for us when we went back to our car after we saw the fair - in Lukiškės square we saw a sculpture of John Lennon! It was made of sand. What a beautiful piece of art! I even started singing the song "Imagine"... What a great day! Ahh, autumn is almost here... I hope September will be amazing I miss you, mum! I wish you could see all of the places I've been to, Stinker... Hugs, Kalea |

Hello!
Today our host mum Karolina came back from... school! Starting September she had to go back to studying. She says that it's quite hard to get up early again, but everything will be okay after some time! Let's see what books and notebooks do we have... Literature book! Interesting! And a small gift from United Kingdom (via postcrossing) arrived today - a "teapot" for tea bags! Cool, isn't it? I don't like that it's so dark outside. I miss summer! Hugs, Kalea |

Hey, mum!
Guess what we did on Sunday? We watched Vilnius Marathon 2012! A lot of people were running in the Old Town - some of them even made the whole distance of 42 km 195 metres! It was really cool to watch this beautiful traditional event (First Marathon in Vilnius was 8 years ago!) Sadly, we didn't register in the running, so we decided to take a small tour in the Old Town centre. First stop - The Royal Palace of Lithuania (Valdovų rūmai). It was built in the 15th century for the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Here you can see a new palace on the site of the original building, it was opened a few years ago. Beautiful, isn't it? Look, what an interesting wall with teapots! Here you can see Signatarų namai, a place where the Act of Independence of Lithuania was signed: And, for the end, a big fountain near the Town Hall: It was a great and sunny Sunday! Kisses, Kalea |

Hey, mum!
I'm really sorry for not uploading anything new. My host mum was feeling quite ill, so we didn't have a chance to go somewhere. But this Saturday we went to Pabrade forest again to pick some mushrooms! Look what we brought back home: And this is a huge ceps, the king of the mushrooms! It's called baravykas in Lithuania. Karolina said that it's really tasty when it's in a soup: Later that day we decided to go for a walk in the Old Town. There was an exhibition of interesting sculptures, made of hay: Oh, I feel ill, too. Maybe it's because of the bad weather? It's cold in the morning and warm after some hours... I guess I'll take a nap now... Hugs (and a kiss for Stinker), Kalea |

Hey, mummy!
Today we spent a lot of time at home. Host mum has received many letters from her penpals, so we helped her to write the answers to the letters: We decided to look for some recipes in OBUOLIŲ PYRAGAI (Apple pies) book. Who knows, maybe we will bake something nice soon?... I tried some home made apple jam and it was really delicious! It tastes way better than it looks! I hope you're well, mum. Maybe you're making something sweet with apples, too? Kisses, Kalea |

If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? (Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars") Dear Stinker, sometimes I just want to lie somewhere and watch the clouds. Isn't that relaxing?... This Saturday we went to a shopping mall "OZAS" and then we decided to go upstairs, to the roof. What an amazing view we saw there! Me, Nocino and Diddl-Maus became great friends. Here is another picture of our short trip to the sky: I hope you're doing well. Mummy told me that you send me kisses. I send you a big kiss, too! And two more kisses to my mum, dad, also many many hugs to my friends Have a relaxing and cosy day, kisses, Kalea |

Hello!
Today we visited Varėna, a nice town in Lithuania, where we had a lot of fun in GRYBŲ ŠVENTĖ 2012 (MUSHROOM FESTIVAL 2012)! Varėna's forests are full of goodies like berries and mushrooms, that's why each year people of this town are having a big celebration with fairs, contests, concerts and so on. Here we are next to the statue - a boy with a basket full of mushrooms: And this is the parade! After that, we saw a lot of cars - some of them were very old and vintage, some of them were interesting because of the size. This white one looks cool! Here you can see a small park - place with farm animals like chickens, rabbits and other small creatures: Let's take a closer look... Whoa, what a big car! Wait... it's not a car... it's a tractor! It was a very lovely day. I hope to see Varėna one more time someday! Love, Kalea |

Dear mum,
today we went to see SODO KRAITĖ in Vilnius Old Town. It's an event for those who have their own garden and they can find plants, trees, flower seeds here. We could also eat apples, other vegetables! This fair showed a lot of nice art works from goodies that autumn brings! Look at this little guy: And heey, chickens are here, too! It wasn't warm outside, so when we came back home, Karolina's mum made me a cosy knitted scarf for the cold season. I gave her a big kiss for that. Now I don't feel cold! Well, that's all for now. Kisses, Kalea |

My host made me some goggles and I love them! The silver paint worn thin, so we went to Hobby Lobby to get some more. She re-painted them and then put a little sealer on it to keep it from rubbing off.
My host is part of a Steampunk crew called Airship Horizons, and they make stuff to sell. She worked for months on figuring out how to make Steampunk toy goggles. She went through a lot of prototypes and finally got one that worked. She made a mold of the goggles in the regular size and in a tiny size - so they'll fit us smaller toys! She paints them and wraps them in a fabric to finish them. |

I wanted to let you know that me and host are safe a well! We had a devastating tornado that has killed many people today (it's all over the news). Thankfully my host and I are safe and with power. Please keep our friends in your thoughts! |
klubwerks Posted Jun 2, 2013, 1:10 am |
WARNING! This post is about the devastation we've experienced in Oklahoma recently.
On May 20th, there was a devastating tornado that destroyed schools and homes in Moore, Oklahoma. That tornado kill 24 people, which included 9 children, and many more where injured. Teachers put themselves on top of children to save their lives. My hosts co-worker Jeff was the first person to get to Briarwood Elementary, which was completely destroyed by the tornado. He saved several children and teachers and his daughter was thankfully among the rescued! Jeff broke both his arms saving lives that day. It was a horrible experience for a a lot of people... it was devastating. Thankfully, myself and my host and her loved are alive and well! My host and I cried a lot that day, as it was a very emotional experience. Jeff on the news! Interactive images that shows the amount of damage the tornado caused. On May 23rd, the first funerals were held where parents buried their children. If this wasn't enough, the Westboro Baptist Church tried to protest the funeral. They are a radical religious group that is pretty awful. They said that God hates us and killed the children in the storm because we are all sinners. It was a very hateful thing to do and they were arrested - it's illegal to protest funerals in Oklahoma. And then there was yesterday - May 31st. We were in the middle of a tornado. It was a powerful storm and it was very scarey given what had just happened a week ago. The tornado was a lot bigger than the one last week. We were in the middle of the circulation, but we all came out alive and well! When the storm first hit, it was a lot of rain and high winds. Then the hail started to beat at the walls. The sirens were sounding outside for about an hour. It seemed like the hail and rain wouldn't stop. We were huddled in the bathroom (the bathtub is the safest place in the house) and we listened to the news telling us about the tornados that were coming for us. When the power went out and the internet dropped, and the cell reception died... we could no longer know where the tornadoes were. It was like being blind and hunted. It was frightening. 100,000 people, including us, were without power. We lost power around 6pm and then didn't get it back until today around 1:30pm. Cell phone reception is still down. Luckily, the fridge and freezer kept cold and our food didn't spoil. This afternoon, we learned that 5 people died and more than 70 people are in the hospital. Luckily, the tornado that was coming right at us, decided to "hop" over our apartment complex and went south of us! Out here in the states, we have Storm Chasers, which are people who make a living chasing storms and tornados. They provide valuable information during the storms that helps to saves lives. One of the crews got too close to a multi-vortex tornado and the vehicle was destroyed. Two of them died (corrected info). And they got some amazing video of the tornado that passed through El Reno, OK - yes there were several tornadoes yesterday. Here's the video! Here's a photo of the destroyed vehicle. Aside from the tornados and hail, there was lots of flooding. We braved the rain and hail around midnight and ate at a diner called IHOP where they had power. We spent some time in comfort with a friend, and it was a nice way to relax after an intense evening. And now for the pictures!! Look closely, because there are photos of downed power lines that are live. We had to be very careful there taking photos. I couldn't be in every photo, but I thought you might like to see the photos anyway! |

Hello, mom!!!!
Today grandma took us to a Xinjiang style restaurant, which food is northern taste. We tried it for the first time. This is a soup, country style. Oh, this is the Xinjiang style of representative food, it has chicken, potatoes, noodles, hot pepper and so on. It tastes very good, and this plate has at least 45CM!!! We went to a jadeite decorations store. It is small shop, also have other large shop. Chinese people called: Feicui, are very loved it, everyone has its decorations and jewelry. The price difference is very big: some very cheap, only need to ¥30-50. Some very expensive, even if you work for a lifetime also can not afford. In the south of other city, there are a lot of people "gambling jadeite". This kind jadeite decorations is a traditional Chinese, host's every family all have it. At dinner, grandma made a very important food, Chinese called it: Jiaozi 餃子. Hostmom's family called it: Bianshi 扁食 or Yueshi 月食. Mom, please see this: Jiaozi I feel the magic, but it is really delicious. This is the traditional Chinese sausage, grandma said, it still needs a period of time can eat. Cooked, you can eat! Love you, mom!!! |

Hi Mom,
I've been out touring the American wide open spaces, vast plains, mountain chains, deserts and rivers with my ToyVoyager pals, Jelle, Amie and Buddy. We hitched a ride to an old-fashioned stagecoach depot. It was a long dusty ride and we were jostled around but is was a lot of fun. https://www.wellsfargo.com/about/history/stagecoach/overland I'm way out West now. Thank you, Mommy, for letting me rest a while here. The stagecoach ride alone was almost a month and we are all tired!! Love and hugs from, Your Kalea |
LittleCableCars Posted May 2, 2014, 1:39 am |
Hi Mom,
Before we left the Stagecoach Depot we checked the map to see which cable cars to take to my new host’s house. We were greeted by a Rockin’ rat from Germany named Rudy and several TVs home from their travels: Cheerio, Noodles, DuDette and her DuDu. See ya later, Mom Your Kalea |
LittleCableCars Posted May 13, 2014, 2:37 am |
Amie helped our good friend Jelle into her cushy travel quarters and we took her to the post office. I filled out the customs form. We (and Oscar Wilde) have nothing to declare but our genius. Her flying envelop is on its way home. Bye bye, dear Jelle.
|
LittleCableCars Posted May 18, 2014, 6:21 pm |
Party time!! Two TVs have returned from their wayward travels, Nicky
and BarryO. Ye gods, C.T. Mouse, Detective, is gossiping again. He says Nicky used to be a guy and BarryO was a lot taller. Let's not let science get in the way of fun. Mmm, that punch was good. The heat wave is over here so we plan to get out sight-seeing soon. Hugs from your Kalea |
LittleCableCars Posted May 21, 2014, 11:44 pm |

LittleCableCars Posted Mar 26, 2015, 11:48 am |
