I'm still at home and with none invitation to travel. So, my mentor decided to do something interesting- a photo session
That was great idea but when we went outside I felt how freezing the weather was. So we stayed in a balcony just for a while. I grabbed Lithuanian flag and my mentor took her favourite photo camera ( Olympus e-520). She hopes that she will be able to make more photo sessions with other TVs. What is more, she told me that I'm a very photogenic person and she believs that my future hosts will be happy to make beautiful photos with such a beautiful guy. |

Hi, it's me Drovius!
After several weeks of traveling in a cramped envelope I have made it to my destination in San Diego, California! When my host saw the package was from Lithuania she thought that it was a package from a swap she did from Lithuania, but to her surprise it was me! When my package was finally opened I was introduced to several other toys that lived in the house. First there was the Pillar family. They are a family of windup caterpillars. Next was Hoots the owl, he is a toyvoyager just like me and has been visiting my host for sometime. I gave my host the Lithuanian coins and postcard you had sent along just as you asked! My host was very surprised and says thank you! Can't wait to see what adventures await. Drovius |

It's me again, Drovius!
Today my host took me to the Sea World aquatic theme park down in Mission Beach! Sea World is full of many different sea life exhibits, and home of the world famous Shamu show! First stop in the park was to the shark exhibit. Unfortunately the exhibit was inside and with little to no lighting. The pictures did not come out well at all. But I did get a nice picture near the end of the exhibit of me by a real shark's mouth. Scary! Next we got to see some seals. Look at the seal with his head up. This seal was actually falling asleep like this! Flamingos! You could buy food from a machine near them to feed them. The Forbidden Reef... Not very forbidden if they advertise it This is the outside of Cirque De Del Mar. It is an attraction opening in May. It will be a cross between an aquatic show and Cirque de Soilel. There was this strange cow statue in the park riding a surfboard. Whenever anyone would come close he would shout of phrases about milk and tell jokes about milk. Very strange... We are here. Where is here? I dunno, but the map says we are here. Next we got to visit the sea star, sea cucumber and sea snail petting pool. Visitors were allowed to pick up the sea creatures, gently of course. Sea stars are very rough on the outside! The world famous Shamu show! The killer whale tanks are huge and connect to a nearby resturaunt where visitors can eat beside the whales. Visitors can also go downstairs after shows and see the whales swimming around. Most of the time they come right up to the glass! While at Sea World we got to view the Killer Whale show. I'm not in these shots as they had to be timed just right, but you can see just how cool the show was! After visiting Shamu... we decided to get some eats at the Shipwreck Reef Cafe and then we went on the Sky Ride in the park. I got to see a beautiful view of Mission Bay and of all the boats and yachts that dock near Sea World! I visited the Anheiser Busch area of the park. Anheiser Busch the brewing company actually owns the Sea World parks all over the United States. On site they have a fake brewery and the famous Clydesdale horses. I hear the pens to the Clydesdales are usually open when my host has visited in the past, but today they were locked up and we were not able to see the horses. Outside of the Anheiser Busch building was a collection of flags, but we were unable to figure out just what the flags were for. Oh well! I had a lot of fun at Sea World! Drovius |

It's me again, Drovius!
Today my host took me around the city of Mira Mesa to view all of the electric box art. All over town just about every electric box along the main road has had a picture painted on it. It is unknown how the artists are chosen, however it seems as if they take turns painting as no artwork stays up forever. Every few months the artwork is painted over with another creation. Here are some snapshots we took today of just a few of the electric boxes. Neat huh? Oh, one last picture before I go - This is a picture of me by the Jollibee. Jollibee is a fast foodish restaurant that serves chicken. My host has never eaten here and is actually grossed out by the horrible fried smell, but she loves the statue, so we decided to take a picture next to it! What a bee has to do with fried chicken I'll never know See ya later, Drovius |

Hi Mom!
Today we were all watching tv the whole day long! We started in the morning with breakfast! And I can hear you asking "Why were you watching tv the whole day long?". Because there was a wedding between Swedens Crown Princess and her fiancé. Wow, what a love story. I have to confess we all got a bit teary especially in the church and then later in the evening when the speeches followed! And then they had a huuuuuuge cake! If I will ever marry, I want a cake as huge as that one |

Hi Mom!
We had fun in the kitchen today! We pickled small cucumbers! First we had to wash them and then make them a bath of hot salt water. You let the cucumbers cool in the water. Then you remove the water and heat vinegar with chopped onion, dill, pepper corns, mustard seeds. While the vinegar is cooking, you put the cucumbers in glass jars and add mustard seeds, dill, onion and pepper corns. The last step is filling the jars with the hot vinegar. You can see all these steps on the pictures! And the final one shows me sitting on the glass jars |

Hi Mom!
Yesterday was the big Finale of the FIFA World Cup and so we toyvoyagers got ready. First, we had to decide which team we wanted to support. We did a poll and then decided to cheer for Holland. Hupp, Holland, Hupp! So we took a Dutch flag and had some Dutch beer. Can you see the blanket we sat on? It has the World Cup mascot Zakumi on it! You may also think: Who is this funny orange friend? I don't know him... That is Beesie, a friendly Dutch supporter! My host mom got it from a Dutch friend! Those little friends were given away at a Dutch supermarket - Beesie is cute and it was a lot of fun with her! As you know, the evening did not end good for Holland The next day, we looked at a poster of the winning team! Mom, I really liked the World Cup, but I'm happy that I don't have to listen to vuvuzelas any more |

Hi Mom!
We toyvoyagers are soooo excited! We will go on holiday tomorrow! Our host mom will go to Helsinki and Tallinn, and we will go with her! Yay! We will be back on August 13, so you won't hear from me until then. But please don't worry, I will have a great time! In preparation for the holiday we studied some travel books and looked at the city plans! Talk to you soon! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 22, 2010, 1:29 pm |
Hi Mom!
I'm super excited! We travelled to Vienna today and then to the airport! We checked the luggage in and then went for a small snack! Finally it was time for boarding! We travelled to Riga first where we had to change planes and then took our second flight to Helsinki! Late in the afternoon we arrived in Helsinki and took the airport bus to the city center. From there it was only a short walk to our hotel! After this journey we were pretty tired and decided to go to bed early! |

Hi Mom and welcome to Helsinki, Finland's capital!
To get a first impression of the Finnish Capital, we took a "Hop on, Hop off" bus! It was a great tour, around the city center and then down to the harbour. These tours are great! You get some headphones and then they tell you a lot of interesting stories. We stopped our tour at Helsinki's Cathedral. It is a beautiful white building and you can see this Cathedral from many different points of Helsinki! That was a great first day in Helsinki! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 24, 2010, 12:33 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today we took the boat to the city of Porvoo! It was a long trip, three and a half hours. It was also a really hot day and we enjoyed the wind on the boat. In Porvoo we had lunch first in a nice restaurant near the sea. Then we went on to explore the city. It is a cute little town, with small wooden houses, restaurants and a few shops. The streets are all lined with cobblestones! We went up on this little hill, with the church on top. But we were not allowed to visit the church as there was a wedding! We enjoyed the view from up there. Because it was so hot, we then relaxed in a park and ate some berries. There are stands that sell berries everywhere in Finland! Soon it was time to travel back! Unfortunately the weather on the way back got a little ugly and it started to rain. Wow, we are exhausted now! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 28, 2010, 1:37 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today we went to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Suomenlinna! You have to take a boat there, but it is just a few minutes trip. So we went through the city to the harbour. We also visited the famous Stockmann store. Down at the pier we also visited the market, where you could buy lots of delicious food. Then we travelled to Suomenlinna and wandered around this old fortress. We saw the canons and explored everything. All this exploring was really exciting but we were also happy when we were finally sitting in a nice cafe for lunch! Bye! |

Hi Mom!
Today we left Helsinki and took a speed boat to Estonia's capital Tallinn. We first deposited our luggage at the hotel and then went on exploring! To get a first impression of the city, we took a tour with the classical hopp on, hopp off bus. We learned a lot about the city. Then we strolled a bit through the old town. That's all for today! Tomorrow we have to get up early as we want to explore the old town properly! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 28, 2010, 3:00 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today we visited Toompea, the old town. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can find so many old buildings here, all beautifully renovated. There is so much history to explore here. We also saw this beautiful orthodox church, which was even more beautiful on the inside, but we weren't allowed to take pictures there. You can also see me in front of a touret of Toompeas castle, it's the one with the Estonian flag flying, which is the seat of the Parliament! In the evening we went to the highly recommended Oude Hanse, a really great restaurant in the style of Medieval times. We had a huge dinner there, with bear and elg sausages, honey beer and some schnapps. What an exciting day! |
marcie08 Posted Aug 28, 2010, 5:58 pm |
Hi Mom!
Today we visited the famous Kadriorg Park! It is a wonderful place to spend nice afternoons. There is this great swan lake at the entrance to the park and also a wonderful cafe. People go there to have a walk, a run or just sit on a bench and read a book. We also saw the President's residence. Then we went from this park to the sea promenade where you can find a huge monument. We also visited the KuMu, a museum for art. We saw an exhibition and then had a bite to eat in the restaurant there. So Mom, tomorrow we will go back to Helsinki and then we fly home! |

Hi Mom!
We are back at home now and of course we had a lot to do: There was the laundry, and giving away the souvenirs. So we enjoyed our free time at home at the balcony. You can see that our host mom has a small vegetable garden on the balcony. She has tomatoes there, cucumbers, beans, pomegranate, herbs, pepper, but also flowers. We really like gardening and of course also eating the vegetables! |

Hi Mom!
Today we met new friends: Truska, a funny pink bunny, and Tigger, our host mom's own toyvoyager. Tigger is just here for a few days while his Mom is organizing a new host. We talked about our travel adventures and they asked about our vacation. So we showed them some souvenirs, for exampel our Moomin postcards! They also really liked our Moomin cookie cutter We also showed them the pictures of our vacation! |

Hi Mom!
Today we received some nice souvenirs from our host-grandma. She has just returned from a visit to Berlin. She brought us viewcards that have an original piece of the Berlin wall on it! And then we got pasta with the famous Ampelmännchen, the small men on the traffic lights. There were also Gummibärchen- Ampelmen and a cookie-cutter. Maybe we will make some cookies sson! Look, I stuck my head through the Ampelmännchen! That was a really nice evening! |

Hi Mom!
Today we went down to the South, to the Weinstraße (literally wine-street). It's the area of Styria where they grow wine. This part is famous for crisp, dry white wines, for example Welschriesling. You can see me in the wineyards. It's almost time for the grape-harvest and you can see that the grapes look ready! We could see that the walnuts are ready too! And of course we saw all the famous pumpkins - they are used to make the pumpkinseed-oil! It was really beautiful there and a really lovely landscape. Of course we also went to a Buschenschank there, that's a small restaurant in the wineyards, where you can eat a kind of ploughman's lunch, with ham, bacon, good bread and some spreads! And of course you also drink a glass of wine! That was a really great afternoon! |

Hi Mom!
Today it's time to travel on and guess what? I'm coming home! It was a bit sad to say Goodbye to my new friends, but I look forward to seeing you again! So, see you soon! Bye! |
