HI, I'm Ferda, now I live with my mum in the north of Czech Republic, in Usti nad Labem... The town isn't so interesting, but the countryside is beautiful.
I know it, because I went with my mum to the little trip, to the viewtower Erbenka, ... it's only 1 km from my home...I like it very much... |
scoiattolo Posted Sep 20, 2009, 7:07 pm |

Hooray! I have arrived in Canada at last!
Another TV, TobiHH, was here to greet me when I came out of my envelope. It was very bright at first! Then I showed TobiHH and Ren all of the goodies that I brought from home and told them a little bit about Czech Republic. I can't wait to go exploring! I hope all is well back home! -Ferda |

For my first trip Ren took me to a nearby town called Bedford to walk along a trail.
The trees are just starting to change colours here. The trail runs along the Sackville river. Here are some of the pictures I took: There were lots of bridges! From one of them I could see ducks! TobiHH and I sat back for a while and enjoyed. At one point the trail comes out right by the highway. Another bridge! There is also a firing range along the trail. Yikes! It's on the other side of that fence. I was a little nervous at first, but Ren promised that I was in no danger as long as I stayed on this side of the fence. Look! A caterpillar! I said Hello. I went up close to the water, the bubbles were making interesting designs. Next we went under the highway. I sure hope those columns hold! The path moved away from the river after that. Here you can see the targets on the firing range. They're a looong way away from the fence! We finally came out where we started, at a shopping mall! Whew! I'm exhausted! Time for bed! Good night! -Ferda |

Hello again!
I've been here a week now and it's rained almost everyday! This morning we were able to get out and take some pictures before the rain came though. We went to a park on the Bedford Basin. In the background you can see the two big bridges that connect the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth. Beyond those bridges is the ocean! There is a walkway all along this part of the basin so we took it. There are lots of nice condos and apartments by the water. Pretty! Usually there are a lot of sailboats out sailing, but not today. The railway also winds along the waterfront. When the path came to an end we followed a road. It led to another park! The water is so calm here! But the sky is not! We kept on walking to see what we could find. Here is a sailing school. Should I enroll? We also saw some churches up on the hill. And Ren says that she wouldn't mind living in this big house! This is the place where the Sackville river runs into the Basin. That is the river that I explored last week! There was one more park to visit. Hmmm... a statue. I sat in the gazebo for a while and rested. We went back then to the part where we started. Here I am with the Nova Scotia flag: The playground is in the shape of a ship here! I tried out the slide! A big Anchor! Here is some information about this place: One last look at the water and then it was time to go! Bye for now! -Ferda |

Hello!
Guess what? It was raining again today! Where have you sent me to mom? It didn't stop us from going out today though! On the way we saw lots of pretty views! We went to visit a tiny fishing town called Peggy's Cove. It has one of the most famous lighthouses in the country. There it is! We got out and walked on the rocks. They were very slippery! It's so big! There is a rumour that this area is haunted by a person that died when they slipped into the ocean. Speaking of which... It's the ocean!!! I've accomplished one of my life missions! It looked a little unforgiving today, but it's still beautiful! You can see the waves crashing in the background. Facing the other way you can see some of the buildings in the town. That big building is a restaurant. This place is usually full of tourists, but because it was raining we had the whole place to ourselves! Now it's time for me to get dry and warm! Goodnight! -Ferda |

Hi!
Guess what? Yesterday it finally wasn't raining so Ren took me down to see the Halifax Harbour Walk. To get there we walked through a place called the Historic Properties. It is an area of the city full of old buildings. Many of them have become shops and restaurants. Most of them were not open because it was still too early in the day. At last we reached the water! We looked out to see what boats were in the harbour. Here is a Canadian Navy ship: And the people ferry that will take you to Dartmouth, the city on the other side of the harbour: There was only one sailboat out. It was probably a little cold for sailing! This is Theodore Tugboat. He's a character from a children's television show here. I said "hello!" Here's another interesting boat: There was also one cruise ship who had come to visit! We stopped to look at this interesting carving. The inscription is all in Latin so we have no idea what it was made for! In the summer time this area is packed full of people's boats! I guess they are all put away for winter now! I saw another lighthouse too! You can just make it out on the island behind me. I enjoyed my walk along the water very much! Until next time, -Ferda |

Hello!
Sorry that it has taken so long for me to update this! My host has been very busy this week moving into her new house. Anyway, I'm happy that I finally get to share my next trip with you! I went to visit the Public Gardens, a Victorian style park in the middle of downtown Halifax. There are lots of caretakers here so this area is still pretty green compared to the rest of the city. It is missing all of the fancy flowers that it has in the summer time though! Along the main path there are 3 statues of Greek goddesses. One: Two: Three: On Sunday's musicians play in this bandstand. I took the path to the left... ... and came to a big duck pond! The ducks were mostly lazy! There's one coming to say hello! Next I found a big fountain. It wasn't turned on though! There are lots of paths and benches here! Here's another fountain! And some flowers that are still alive! Time to go! Next I'm headed to another place downtown that might be a little bit scary... Yikes! Bye for now! -Ferda |

Hi!
Because it's almost Halloween I decided to explore Halifax's oldest graveyard. This lion stands guard at the entrance! Here is some info about it: This graveyard doesn't really seem that scary now. Especially when the sun is finally shining! We wandered around looking for interesting stones. This one was used like an advertisement for the carver. See all the different fonts and pictures? People would chose the one that they liked the best for their own stones. This is Ren's favourite gravestone because the skull on top looks so silly! The stones with skulls on the top are the oldest. Later gravestones have urns on the top like these. Now here's one that looks scary! Yikes! I was feeling a little scared after looking at that one. Even though the tour guide said that the area was not haunted. Then I was distracted by a pretty building in the background. I went to get a better look. It's a cathedral called St. Mary's Basilica. Once I went back to the graveyard I was feeling much less scared. Nope! There is nothing to be afraid of here! Muahahaha... I mean see you soon! -Ferda |

Hello!
Today I met a new Toy Voyager! His name is Fiete! He is from Germany and he had lots of postcards to show me! I showed him around Ren's house a bit while she was busy unpacking. It's such a mess right now! Then we met a horse and went for a ride! We also met a witch! She was very nice though! She even gave us Halloween candy! Yum! We had a lot of energy from all of that candy so we went outside to play. There are still some pretty coloured leaves to be found! Afterwards we spent the afternoon looking out the window and being lazy! Bye for now! -Ferda |
Rennire ren.the.great@hotmail.com Posted Oct 30, 2009, 3:12 pm |
Hi!
Today Fiete and I went to go see another cemetery. (There sure are a lot of them around here!) This one is special because some of the Titanic Victims are buried here. We followed the signs! Here it is. This is the place where the Catholic people were buried. It is the smaller of the two grave sites in Halifax. The stones are all the same. Many of them do not have names on them because when the ship sank they didn't have anything with them to identify them. Here is some information. This stone does have a name. Wenzel Linhard was a 3rd class passenger from Austria, aged 32. It was just starting to rain so it was time to go! Bye for now! -Ferda |
Rennire ren.the.great@hotmail.com Posted Nov 1, 2009, 12:33 am |
It's Halloween!
Today Fiete and I had lots of fun playing in the candy bowl while we waited for Trick or Treaters to come to the door! Then there was a knock on the door. We were kind of surprised because it was still very early. When we opened it we didn't see children in costumes, we saw Barney! He has come to visit for a while! We all decided to help Ren carve some pumpkins. They were pretty small so it didn't take too long before they were empty! While Ren cut out her pumpkin's face we helped to separate all of the pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin goo so we could bake them. Ren finished her pumpkin! And the seeds were ready too! Yum! We went into a dark room to try out Ren's Jack o lantern. Her mother made a silly face on the other pumpkin! After all of that hard work it was time to sneak some candy! Then we put the pumpkins on the front step. There was a skeleton out there too! Yikes! Ren's mother dressed up like a witch to answer the door but she couldn't find her hat! We hung out with her for the rest of the evening waiting to give out candy. Happy Halloween! -Ferda |

Hello Again!
Recently the city that I'm staying at experienced the first snow of the season. It was kind of yucky and depressing looking but then it it warmed up a lot and all the snow disappeared! We decided to take advantage of the nice weather so Fiete, Barney and I went to a place called Point Pleasant Park. It is a great place to see the Atlantic Ocean. Facing the other way you can see the big cranes that load and unload cargo ships. This area used to be a big military bastion. From here the soldiers could see any ship that was entering the Halifax harbour. There are remains of this all over the park. There are also lots of monuments honouring the military along the water. And there are lots of stories to read about different battles and events. Us TV's discovered this little canon and made up our own battle story! (We won of course!) After that we moved away from the water and climbed up a really really big hill! At the top of the hill there is a tower! (Whew my little legs were tired from the the hill!) I wonder if there is a princess up there? I called out but didn't get an answer! Next we walked to another place where the remains of the fort still stand. On the way we met some seals! Here it is! There was a really big cannon here! You really can see well from way up here! No one is attacking the city today! It was starting to get dark so we made our way back down the hill to catch our bus but we missed it! It was okay though, we just sat on the beach and waited for the next one to come. And we watched all of the lights come on across the water. It was a really fun day! -Fiete |

Hi!
Recently I travelled to a place called the Shubenacadie Canal. It's located in Dartmouth, a nearby city that's full of lakes. The canals connect all these lakes together and were very important for transportation before there were many roads. This part of the canal system is now a park. Here's what is on the sign: The lake that I started at was small but full of ducks! Hello ducks! There is a trail along the canal so I took it. In the old days this water would have been full of canoes and busy people. There used to be simple houses along the water too but there is not much left of them now. The rocks behind me used to be a small house. The trail went up much higher! There used to be a blacksmiths shop behind me here. But once again there is very little left of it today. The trail went on forever! I ended up back at the small lake but on the other side this time! It was fun! Bye for now! -Ferda |

Hello!
On Christmas Eve a new TV arrived! It's Fibro Duck visiting from the UK! It is Fibro Duck's mission to spread awareness about the illness called Fibromyalgia. He brought lots of information on it to share. It was snowing outside so then we went outside to take a look! It's a good thing nobody had to be driving! It was already dark but Fibro Duck and I decided to play in the snow a little anyway! Look what we made together! After that we rested on a bench and watched the snowflakes. Then we went inside to help Ren wrap one last present. Perfect! All we had left to do was let Santa know what we wanted for Christmas... ... And leave some goodies out for him and his reindeer! Good Night and Happy Holidays! -Ferda |

It's Christmas!
Guess what? All of the treats were gone! And there were presents everywhere! And very full stockings! Fibro Duck and I climbed up on the fire place and then played hide and seek in the Christmas tree! Can you see us? How about now? While we were exploring we found a snow man and a candy dish! We spent most of the day talking to him and eating candy! Yum! I hope that you had a great Holiday too! -Ferda |

Hi Again!
Last fall I went to visit a graveyard where a few Titanic victims were buried. Today I went into Halifax to see the bigger Titanic gravesite that is a lot more popular. Almost there! I think the signs are the same as before: Ren told me that in the summer time this is a very busy tourist place with lots of guides telling stories but there was no one else around today! Here it is: Most of the stones are very simple, and lots of them do not have names. This is one of the most popular stones here. It is for one of the first bodies recovered, a very small child. The crew on the boat that found him payed for a bigger headstone. They didn't know who he was back then, but they have figured out now that he is one of this lady's children. She ended up being buried just a few feet away. So sad! This stone also gets a lot of attention... I wonder why? The stones are set out in a "U" shape that is supposed to resemble the front of a boat. I am so lucky that I made it across the ocean safely when so many others have not! Bye for now, -Ferda |

Hi again!
Last night there was a winter storm here so there is lots of snow! Ren had to go to the grocery store so I went along! While I was waiting for her I went exploring a little. Hey I recognize this river! I visited this place back in the fall! It looks very different now. It was so windy and cold! I didn't walk as far as I did last time but I still had fun! Bye for now! -Ferda |

Hello!
It has been very snowy and grey around here lately. I think that I have forgotten what the sun looks like! It's okay though because the snow looks really pretty! I wanted to go out walking in it so Ren took me to a place called Hemlock Ravine Park. The focal point of the park is the heart shaped pond. Here is some information about it: And here it is! It's not as easy to make out when it's covered in snow! The park is also special because of it's very old trees. There are all kinds of walking trails throughout the park. It was like walking inside of a snow globe! The path I took was sandwiched between two steep rock walls! Fibro and I found a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy the views! Then it was time to go back and get warmed up! Bye for now! -Ferda |

Hello!
Guess what?! I found out where I am going to travel to next! I'm going to Hong Kong! How exciting! Today though I went with Ren to the hospital to help fulfill one of my life missions! This is the "little" hospital, there is a much bigger one downtown. Here I am in the waiting room. Luckily we didn't have to wait long! Then we went into a new room. I'm not sure what an ultrasound is but Ren assured me that it wouldn't hurt her! I wasn't allowed to go inside so I sat and waited until it was time to go. Bye for now! -Ferda |

Guess what!? I found a surprise waiting for me in the kitchen! Ren had baked a heart shaped cake! How appropriate! I shared it with the other TV's of course! Then it was time to dig in! Yum! It was a fun day! I'm extra excited too because I will be leaving for Hong Kong very soon! Bye for now! -Fibro |

Hello!
I've been so excited about going to Hong Kong that I don't know what to do with myself! I've tried to keep my mind off of the long trip by watching the Olympics and cheering for the athletes from Czech Republic. Here is one now! A snowboarder! Oh oh! He fell down and didn't finish the race! Better luck next time! Then it was finally time to get into my packet! I gave Fibro Duck and Napo a big hug first of course! I hope to meet up with them again someday! I'm sad to leave but I can't stop smiling because I am also looking forward to exploring someplace new! I will talk to you again when I reach my destination! I hope that it doesn't take too long! Wish me luck! -Ferda |

Once I arrived Hong Kong,
Vi, my new host brought me to a tea house to "yum cha" (means drink some chinese tea), and have "dim sum" (food that only serve in chinese tea house) This idea is so great because I am very hungry after the long journey. Later we went to supermarket to buy some snacks, there are various kind of snacks and are imported from all over the world. Marbo - a twin-cake in cappuccino flavor Green packing - green tea flavor biscuit Grey packing - dried grapes Panda biscuit - chocolate biscuit Dove - chocolate bar Yellow candy - honey candy Red candy - honey candy with coke flavor Orange packing - herbal candy which smooth your throat Wah Yuen - sweet dried pineapple And I also got a red packet too! Inside is some lucky money. Giving red packets to children and youngsters is a traditional custom during Lunar New Year. I had a big chocolate coin as dessert. One side there's "Kung Hey Fat Choi", and the other side are the 12 animals symbolizing the Twelve Branches used to designate years (according to lunar calendar). The order is: 1 - Rat, 2. Ox, 3. Tiger, 4. Rabbit, 5. Dragon, 6. Snake, 7. Horse, 8. Goat, 9. Monkey, 10. Rooster, 11. Dog, 12. Pig |

I took the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), which is the same as Metro/Tube/Subway, I got off at the Hung Hom Station.
I saw a shop called 7-11, a 24-hour convenient store, there are over hundreds branched in Hong Kong. I took some photos with the Hong Kong Coliseum, it's having a funny shape that looks like a diamond. Outside shows some up-coming events' posters, drama, chinese opera, classical music and some concerts of local pop stars. The last two photos is the whole view of the Hung Hom Station. You can see that the weather is a bit foggy, since spring is coming, it will becomes more humid. |

Vi showed me the Hong Kong currency today,
there are coins and notes. For coins, there are: $10 (not in the photo), $5, $2, $1, $0.5, $0.2, $0.1 For notes, there are: $1000 (not in the photo), $500, $100, $50, $20, $10 Coins are having Queen Elizabeth on the back until late 80s, and changed into Bauhinia (HK regional flower) starting from 90s. Sometimes there are some special patterns on the coins, and there are two different styles of QE II too. The notes tell different spots of Hong Kong: $20 - the Peak $50 - Cultural Centre + Clock Tower + Star Ferry $100 - Tsing Ma Bridge $500 - Hong Kong Chak Lap Kok International Airport There are two styles of $50 and $10money note, for $50, green one is the newer version while purple one is the older version, there is drawings of dragon boat racing behind~ for $10, it is just the opposite of $50. In the last photo, you can see there are different lucky chinese animals printed on the money notes. |

I cannot see the things clearly even they are just few miles away! So foggy and humid that the ground is so wet... But I am fine with it because I am a little frog~~ I travelled the Star Ferry to cross the Victoria Harbour tonight, it's windy but nice! |
vivyanhui Posted Mar 27, 2010, 9:36 am |
I went to Central today and know a little bit how Hong Kong looks like at night.
There are cars and people everywhere, and many tall buildings, I just took a few photos and head to the ferry pier, and oh! It's not that foggy tonight, the view is very clear! After got off from the ferry, I got on thebus to back home, and I found that there are televisions on the bus! |

I took a walk at the Kowloon Park this afternoon, and see something interesting.
It's the Blackfish Pole from Canada! It's very tall and is agift during the Festival Canada in 24 May,1991. I also visited the ducks, flamingo and turtles too~ |

Ferry again~
I went to Wanchai for an exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The outlook of the building is very special that you can spot it out very easily. It's round in shape. A lot of buildings are made with reflective glass in Hong Kong. I also met a nice woman at the Golden Bauhinia Statue right outside the Centre, we are both tourist so we decided to take a photo together. |
vivyanhui Posted May 1, 2010, 7:21 pm |
Behind me is the Cultural Centre (left),
the Space Museum (middle), which is in the egg shape and the Art Museum (right). I also saw the cool motor cycle of Hong Kong Police. |

This is the Star Ferry Pier at Tsim Sha Tsui,
you can see how foggy today. Can you see the five flags right outside the pier? That is the well-known Five-flag Pole, where people used to wait their friends there, especially in the period when cell phone is not so popular. And the next one is the Clock Tower, which is part of the former Train Terminal, was kept and standing in front of the Hong Kong Culture Centre. |

I travelled quite a long way to the Hong Kong (Chap Lap Kok) International Airport, because vi's wild TVs, vili & valaare going to release there.
The airport locates in the Lantau Island, the biggest island in Hong Kong. The second biggest one is the Hong Kong Island, where I always go there by ferry~ We took the bus there, on my way, I can see there are many ships in the sea. |
vivyanhui Posted May 9, 2010, 5:23 pm |
Randomly I saw some large artpieces....
the are some wooden sculpture.... actually all are forest animals in an abstract way! I was excited and took photos with my friends snakey & Miegalyte at once. There are deer, snail, bear, and a night view through the bear's mouth~ |
vivyanhui Posted May 9, 2010, 5:32 pm |
I have been to a funny street!
Thoug it's very short, it's full of funny products~ It's in Central, named "Shek Pan Guy (< Street)", the road surface is actually pebbles, which helps to let the water away during rainy days. I bet people who are having a mask-party will surely come here to buy what they want! There are different colour of hairs, costumes, superman, king kong, pirate, fairy and so on.... cool! What if I buy some props here? Maybe I will become Froggy Dada and replace Lady Gaga?! wakakaka! |
vivyanhui Posted May 13, 2010, 6:28 pm |
I have seen the greatest Buddha Statue in Asia!
It's located on hill top that I need to take the cable car there. The cable car is slow but I was a bit afraid at first, but then, I forgot all those feeling! The scenery is great and I even saw the Hong Kong International Airport! Since the land is hilly, and some people believed that it's with good "fung shui", so they choose to buried their ancestors there. (the tiny blue dot in the photo) When we arrived, we still have to walk along the long long steps, it's very tired but finally I did it~ Yeah!! |
vivyanhui Posted May 13, 2010, 6:39 pm |
These two are the well-known local street snacks,
the first is fish dumpling, but when you have it in chinese restaurant or tea house, they will be stuffed/ made with pork, the second one is fishball, the surface is very slightly fried to make it a bit brownish-yellow. The two are served in a bamboo stick, you can have sesame sauce, chilli sauce or what ever you like too! Both of them taste good! And this is one of the local clinic. Actually the syle are almost the same, with black words of Doctor's name on white background, and white curtains, with doctor's qualifications and faculties shown, outside the reception, there are seats for patients to sit and wait, some may have television, some may have toys and story books for children, and usually have magazines. (waiting is boring!) |
vivyanhui Posted May 22, 2010, 11:28 am |
Behind me is one of the street in Mongkok,
you can see the subway exit (the red one with the logo). The colour of Mongkok Station is red~ Mongkok is so crowded, but there are also lots to eat too! Tonight I had the pizza, salmon and sala with banana cake~ ar~ so yummy and so full.... |
vivyanhui Posted May 22, 2010, 11:38 am |
I played around inside the train~
It's the first choice of transportation of many people here, it's fast with high accessibility. |

It's a day in Central, here it got many tall buildings,
everyone has their own features, so it's eay to identify. And here's the tram too! Behind me is the Legislative Council Building, It looks very different among all buildings due to it's western style. It's not open to public unless it's the open day, so I just took a few photos outside. |

Western Market is a remarkable building and it's a landmark in the district.
I just wonder why there's a nut cracker at the entrance? It is a well-known place of cloth and experienced-tailor, there are kinds of cloth for you to choose, it's just like a maze! Many tourists come here to make there ideal clothes. Outside the building, it's a high bridge and busy road, and from the roadsigns on the bridge, you can see the "mickey" logo that leads to the Disneyland. |

You know what?!?! What I did today was just COOL!!!
I went to the Space Museum at Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon with my TV friends here, Michel, Michel & Hypno-dog. It's a sphere shape building and really looks like a giant white egg. Inside we saw some exhibits showing the law of gravity, the solar system, and the most unforgettable experience is... I was in the outer space~ |

This is one of the well-known temple in Hong Kong,
it's called "Man Mo Temple". 文武廟 It locates on the Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan. In chinese, 文 "man" means those who are good at study, or having a stable job, for example, clerk or professor; 武 "mo" means those who good at exercises or kung fu. It's very big and has a pair of rock lions right in front of the entrance. A lot of people went inside to worship, Durinf the exam period, many parents will come here to pray for good results for their children. Next to the Temple, there's an antique selling store, which is in a eastern architecture style. There is also other service like fortune telling near the Temple. Your future can be told by looking at your face and hands! |

Near to the Man Mo Temple,
there's the Mesuem of Medical Sciences, but I have to walked through the Ladder Street to reach there. It's an old style building with red bricks, there are various kind of medical herbs planted around the building. |

I just can't believe my eyes!
Here there are thousands of neon light signages along the street... people, cars, signages, salesmen, shops, advertisements... crowded but nice experience! I also met a shop that sells herbal jelly, so as some toy machines, it works this way: when you insert a coin, usually HK$5.0 or HK$10.0, then you will have a chance to turn the button, then the toys inside will come out randomly, all the toys are put inside an egg shaped container, so people used to call them "egg toy". |

Great farewell dinner before leaving~
I had sushi and it's a food that very new to me. The dishes are put onto a circular track and wait till somone choose them. I want to take a ride on the track but stopped by Vi, because people will definitely don't want to see a frog sitting among the dishes, and they may scream too. I don't want to frighten others and don't want to be naughty, so I just sat there and have a yummy dinner. |
