First thing today we went to water supply dam Hohenfelden. It is a recreational place where you can swim, take a boat trip...

There is also a camping site where we went to have lunch at a little restaurant.

After lunch we  went to the crag! What a fun for a monkey - climbing all day long!

In the afternoon we visited the city of Erfurt.

It is pretty old town and you can see all these beautifully restored buildings and places.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030843.jpg

And this is me in front of Erfurt Cathedral. At the moment they perform summer theatre on the steps and show Carmina Burana. That's why there are these barriers and shut offs in the front.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030851.jpg

For dinner we went to an Asian street restaurant - yummy!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030850.jpg

Then, in the evening, we went to an open air theatre. They told ballads by Friedrich Schiller in  a funny way. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take pictures during the play.

Today we took a trip to Gotha. My hosts needed to do some shopping but they also went to the museum of natural science and took me along.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030874.jpg

There was an exhibition about fashion, fashion of animals: their feathers and furs and so on. We were not allowed to take pictures inside that is why here is only a photo of a leaflet:

Last weekend my host went to Dresden to attend a friend's wedding.
First there was the church service and then we celebrated until
the next morning in a restaurant right at river 'Elbe'.

The is the wedding couple (and me  :p):

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030889.jpg

and here are their efforts in sawing the tree - successfully!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030890.jpg

For tea there was a delicious wedding cake, which I had to try!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030892.jpg

On the other side of the river 'Elbe' there was castle 'Pillnitz'.
We used the time between tea and dinner to visit it and take a stroll in the castle garden.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030896.jpg

To get to the castle you have to take a ferry boat:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030893.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030897.jpg

And here you can see the beautiful buildings and the park with
flowers and the fountain:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030899.jpg

In the evening with had lots of fun playing games.
For example dancing with a ballon. If the dancing couple loses the
balloon they have to fullfill the wish for the wedding couple
inside the balloon!

However, on Tuesday we had a BBQ with my host's choir.

Next week my host is doing a night hike with her class.
To prepare we walked all the way from school to mountain 'Inselsberg' - 16 km. Puh!

Let's see: Which way do we take?

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030947.jpg

I took us about 4 hours. We did not walk very fast and took some rests as well.

breakfast:

And took another rest:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Hiro/P1030951.jpg

We also walked along the 'Rennsteig', the longest hiking trail in the Thuringian forest.
There is a big 'R' marking the trail:

There where about 40 stalls, not that much , but it is a newly organized fleamarket. So people need to get informed about it.
The market took place on an ice rink. Well, there wasn't any ice because it is summer. There is a swimming pool nearby but we didn't have time to go swimming. Just spent the time in the shade as it is very hot here now (that holidays are over....)

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5108.jpg

After scanning the titles, I decided to read this book. It is a book about books and has a many interesting facts on it's pages.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5107.jpg

Then, in the evening I suddenly heard voices. My host is back home and with her two other TVs. Schweinchen and Mr Bananas have been on a weekend trip and now they had a lot of stories to tell. I'm very happy to meet another monkey, but I still have to go on and look for a girlfriend. Maybe Mr Bananas knows where I can find one...

Katrin wanted to go to one of her favorite places on town and grabbed us before she left the house.
This is the local post office, but not the special place. It's not a "real" post office, because the German Post wanted to save money. They closed many post offices years ago and now in smaller cities there are just little counters left, usually in a supermarket. In Kellinghusen the post office is in a clothes store.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0001.jpg

We walked on and saw the tower of the church. Katrin wanted to go there, but it started to rain and we hurried on.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0002.jpg

This is the special place: the local library. It's not a big surprise, since Katrin studies Library Sciences and will hopefully be a librarian herself next year. This is the new built children's area. While Katrin was looking for some books, we explored the room.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0003.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0004.jpg

Back home: This is what happens when there is noone in the library with Katrin to stop her taking books. She always carries back home too many books.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0005.jpg

These books were the ones she was looking for. They are all written by the same author: Kirsten Boie. She writes picture books, children books and teen books. Katrin has to read a lot of different books by her for one of her classes in university.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/000_0006.jpg

The last two books she will read just for fun. Do you know them? In Germany they are known as the "Bis(s)" books, the English title is the Twilight series. These books are part one and two.

Now Katrin is back home for two days and she is really productive again. :P Look at all the letters she has already written. OK, one letter is a book she has sold via www.booklooker.de
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5364.jpg

In the afternoon Katrin took me and Hiro with her to Wrist, the town next to Kellinghusen. We were waiting at the station for her boyfriend to arrive. Here is also the mailbox in which me dropped all the letters. The sign above says "to the trains".
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5366.jpg

We were a bit early so we had a look at some of the posters which were there at the station. These are ads for political parties because the are elections for the German gouvernment on September 27. In Katrin's state Schleswig-Holstein there are also elections for the state gouvernment on the same day.

This afternoon we checked the TV guide and it looks very boring. Four TV channels show the TV duell of the chancellor Angela Merkel and her opponent Frank Walter Steinmeier. Looks like you HAVE to watch this tonight because of the election in two weeks.
Well, on channel shows the Simpson movie...
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5367.jpg

In the evening we wanted to have a look at the politicians. Katrin watched the discussion for about 15 minutes, then she decided that her book is more interesting. :P It was really boring, because they didn't argue, they just talked nice about each other.
Here are some photos of us in front of the TV and the two politicians:

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5431.jpg

...and Katrin decided that there is enough time left for taking another photo.
This is Michel, he is the mascot of Hamburg. There are statues of him all over the city.

Here we are at the platform. They train on the right is the one we came with, the one on the left is the one we will take now.

I'm on the Federal Flower Festival in Schwerin! Katrin and her boyfriend wanted to enjoy the nice weather and took me with them. The area of the festival is around the Schwerin castle which you can see on this photo:
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5435.jpg

This is the view back to the shore, you can see the cathedral and the state museum in the background.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5436.jpg

Do you wonder were I am standing? On the water of course! There is a swimming bridge from which you have views of the castle which you usually just have when you are on a boat.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5440.jpg

After walking over the water, we took this path through swamp land...
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5446.jpg

...into the forest.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5449.jpg

Here I discovered a funny house on which I climbed right away. In this house there grow a special kind of mushrooms and orchids out of bags.

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5451.jpg

Then we moved on to the little farm. I meet geese, a pig and even a camel!

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5471.jpg

In the "Kitchen Garden" a found a cabbage which was a lot bigger than me!
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5475.jpg

Here I am finally with some nice flowers. Why is it called a flower festival when I don't get any photos with flowers?!
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5488.jpg

In the Castle Garden I discovered this dress...
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5491.jpg

...and more flowers. I also had some more nice views of the Schwerin castle.

It was a long day, but it was maybe one of the last nice summer days of this year and we spent it very well.

Today was my last day with Mr. Bananas. He'll travel back home tomorrow. We took a last photo together before he crawled into his envelope.

For Katrin university has started again and she was very busy to get everything organised. I spend the days at her home.
Today she was very excited when she came back home. A friend of her had found a "doll" during her vacation and since she knew, that Katrin lives toys, she gave it to her.
This is me with the strange "doll", I think, I'll call him Skinny. He has a note which says that you should take photos of him and send the owner an e-mail. This is what Katrini will do next. Maybe we will find out more about him and his missions...

Hey mum, I'm still alive! Katrin more or less forgot me because she is the whole day in Hamburg at university and in the evening she is doing homework.
Now Katrin is working on the project about the German children book author Kirsten Boie. Remember, in August she started to read a lot of her books. Now she brought some picture books from the library and gave them to me to read. I liked the one with a little fairy, who doesn't want to be nice anymore. :)

Today was supposed to be a nice fall day and Katrin took me with her to Hamburg. She didn't have much time because she had university and worked afterwards. But we could escape her boss for about 15 minutes and took this photo. I'm sitting on a bike which can rent. It's a service from the Deutsche Bahn. You have to sign in for this service first somehow (Katrin just read a few information) and then you can use the bike and bring it back here or to another bike station somewhere else in Hamburg.

Today I'm in Hamburg again, but this time we went to the library of Katrin's university. She wants to work on her essay about libraries in the Roman Empire and Greece. It was interesting to watch her for a while but then I decided to enjoy the view over Hmaburg although it was grey and rainy outside.

Pepita and I had a look out of the window. The colorful trees look nice, but it's raining outside again...
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5581.jpg

We went downstairs into the kitchen to have a hot tea. There was a huge selection and it was difficult to choose the right one: Loose strawberry tea, or black tea, or white tea, or jasmine tea, or green tea?
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5582.jpg

We chose the green tea and went back upstairs into Katrin's room. It was raining heavily outside and Katrin lit some candles which gave the room a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

Katrin is doing homework now, she says she feels a bit like in primary school when she learned how to write. But these letters don't look like the letters Katrin usually uses when she is writing.
This is Sütterlin, a widely used form of the old German blackletter handwriting which was only taught in all German schools from 1935 to 1941. Katrin has a class about the history of books and libraries thi semester and her teacher wants that all the students can wirte at least a bit Sütterlin. When you can write it, it's also easier to read.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_5584.jpg

Then Katrin wrote my name in Sütterlin. It looks interesting, doesn't it?

After many weeks in northern Germany it's time to travel on. But it's not far this time, I'm going to Munich in southern Germany. Katrin thinks, this journey will just take one or two days. :)

the weather is exceptionally mild and sunny for November. So we enjoy our walks and stop in the city's rose garden along the Isar river and sit in the sun.

I went for a walk in Sendlinger Street and visited the Asam Church. It was built by a rich merchant as a private church. Inside the church and a balcony is a door to his former house so he could enter the church from is private rooms. It is really nice, especially if you like lots of gold and ornaments.

For the weekend I traveled to Sulzbach-Rosenberg, a little town in the North-East of Bavaria. There is a nice old city center and a small park where I went for a walk.

During the past days the weather went cold and it snowed. Munich is covered in snow. Therefore I did not go for a long walk but rather did some window shopping in Maximilianstraße. Well, I would have liked to do real shopping but Maximilianstraße is the street where all the posh and expensive designers have their shops (Dior, Armani and such)  ... so, it was only window shopping.
I also saw the opera at one end of the Maximilianstraße.

I also walked around the king's residence. Do you see the little lions? They stand at the side of the gates and all their noses are shining. It is said that it will bring luck if you rub their noses. So that's why they are shiny. Of course I could not resist and rubbed as much as possible  :D

Opposite the residence is the Theatiner church, it is very nice inside.
And there is also the Feldherrnhalle (hall of military leaders/commanders).

I went for a walk in Englischer Garten (English Garden). On the way I passed the Hofgarten (garden next to the king's residence). Today it is open for everyone, there is a coffee shop there (nice to drink coffee in the sun in summer time), some shops, people go for walks or play boccia.

Hello all!

I just arrived, literally. My hostess & the little guy just rescued me from the mailbox in the cold November downpour.

The little guy has already gave him a hug and a kiss :)

Now to rest before our adventuring starts.
