My hosts: AbbyB - Canada - Thanks for hosting! Pixiedustlady - USA - Thanks for hosting! Elen - Belarus - Thanks for hosting! Credo - South Africa - still on the way... What's next? Hello everybody! I am a new TV and would like to introduce myself: I am a little French girl by the name of Aimee. I came to Germany some time ago through postcrossing. That's why my mom cannot really remember my birth date... mh. Here is a picture of me again. I am about 17cm high and not very heavy. Pretty slim too, so I can fit into an envelope without problems. ![]() Well, after hosting her first TV Florentine my mom thought that it would be a good idea for me to see a little bit more of the world. And I am also so excited about this adventure. Here is me and Florentine: ![]() Now, I will stay a little bit with my mom for her holidays in Hamburg next week but then I am curious about my first host! Anyone interested? |

Today we went on a trip to Gotha, a nearby town, about 15 km away.
My host had a job meeting at castle 'Friedenstein' where we went first. I went with Florentine and if you look into her travelog you can see some pictures of our visit. Later we went through the town and did bit of sightseeing and shopping. In the background you can see the town hall of Gotha and the fountains on castle hill: ![]() We took a rest in the 'Orangerie' gardens before we went to the train station: ![]() Here is me and Florentine in the park: ![]() In front of the train stations there are these columns with sights of the region: ![]() We had a great day out! |

Yesterday evening we (Florentine, me and my host) enjoyed watching the film '101 Dalmatians'! What a romantic but also sad story.
![]() It was also the farewell evening for Florentine as she is moving on to another host. Today I waved her Goodbye: ![]() But I am sure she will have a great time with her new host in the Netherlands. I am looking forward to reading her entries in the travelog. |

Hello again!
The last days I was away on a holiday trip to Hamburg. That's why there hadn't been any updates lately. But then, here is the news: On Monday, on our way to Hamburg, we took a stop at the 'Serengeti Park' where you can see wild animals and funny monkeys face to face. ![]() In the evening we arrived at our hotel near 'Reeperbahn'. I was very exhausted and relaxed on the bed, watching a bit of TV. ![]() The next day we started to explore the city, went to the harbour, also took a bus tour through the city. Later we went to the Hamburg dungeon, oh very creepy ![]() ![]() ![]() In the evening my host went to see the musical 'Lion King'. She had a great time, however I had to stay in the hotel ![]() We also visited the museum of Hamburg history, a journey through all the centuries of the city - pirates, trade, costumes.... ![]() Yesterday we travelled back home. On the way we visited the 'Tank Museum' in Munster. Well, my host is not a fan of military vehicles but her boyfriend.... Still it was intersting to see all those giants. ![]() ![]() Today we'll stay at home and take a rest. Weather is terrible again - rain. |

This weekend we took a trip to Saxony. My host's parents live there and we went to visit them.
But first of all we went to Chemnitz to visit the industrial museum. ![]() ![]() In the museum you can see a lot of things related to the history of the town. As you may know Chemnitz was called Karl-Marx-Stadt during GDR times. Here is an old old town sign: ![]() ![]() Here is another real East German thing: The car that used to be the treasure of almost every family - the Trabant. It was very expensive in relation to no comfort and people had to wait for years, about 10, to get it! ![]() They even had a camping version with a tent on the roof! Isn't that funny?! ![]() ![]() At the moment the museum offers a special exhibiton about numbers. It was so interesting to learn about numbers in all areas of life: ![]() ![]() ![]() Counting sheep.... ![]() And my favourite one: Aimee in numbers! A crazy computer programme transfers all people and things into numbers. And the image really looks like me - unbelievable! ![]() ![]() |

Today we went to Amerika!! Yes we did!!
![]() ![]() Ah, well. As you can see from the pictures: Amerika is a village in Germany ![]() My mom's parents live in a town nearby. One of their hobbies are vintage OPEL cars and every summer they organize a small vintage OPEL car meeting in Amerika. This was the fifth one. ![]() And here are the cars of my mum's dad: ![]() ![]() And here are some other ones: ![]() ![]() They took a short tour around the area and met again at castle Rochsburg for an exhibition of the cars. Here is me at the castle: ![]() ![]() |

Today when we got back home a new TV had arrived in Mechterstädt: Hiro!
The little monkey had to spend over a week in the dark envelope - poor boy. I gave him a warm welcome hug and I am sure he'll have a great time here in Thuringia. ![]() |

Hi Mom, I have arrived in Canada!
![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 12, 2009, 4:29 am |
Today I played tennis.
![]() At first I stayed on the sidelines... ![]() But eventually I gave it a try. ![]() I had a lot of fun! |
AbbyB Posted Aug 19, 2009, 5:22 am |
Today I saw Comedy of Errors at Bard on the Beach.
![]() This is the tent the mainstage is in. The tents to the right are where the food is sold, and then past that is a tent with the studio stage. ![]() In this tent Starbucks was giving away free coffee, so I had a cup (they are the season sponsers). ![]() ![]() I couldn't take photos of the play itself, but it was very funny. You can read about it here. During intermission there was more free coffee, and also pastries. I had another coffee and half an oat fudge bar. ![]() All of the tables had flowers on them, and I stopped to have a look. ![]() ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 28, 2009, 5:16 am |
Today I visited Abby's school, Simon Fraser University. It is a relatively new school, founded in 1965. It is on top of Burnaby Mountain, which means that it is scenic in the summer and very cold in the winter. Most of the original buildings were designed by the late architect Arthur Erickson, who is known for his use of concrete and water features, as you will see.
This is the track. The building on the right houses the pools, and past that are the gyms and fitness facilities. ![]() This is the convocation mall. This is where graduations, rallies, events and large student gatherings are held. ![]() This building is the library. It is seven floors and includes a common area and archives and rare books. ![]() This is the Academic Quadrangle, also known as the AQ. I am standing underneath one end of it, and you can see the other end far off in the distance. Most classes are held here. The floors you can see are the fifth and sixth, which are mainly offices and seminar rooms, the 'fourth floor' is what I am standing on, and the rest of the floors are below ground. ![]() This is on the roof of one of the buildings, looking North toward the mountains. What a pretty view. ![]() This building here is the Arts and Social Sciences Complex and it is the newest addition to the school. Many of Abby's classes are held here. The building itself won an architectural award in May. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 28, 2009, 6:01 am |
Today I went with Abby's family as they went out for the day. First we went to an independent cheese shop.
![]() You could even watch them make cheese. ![]() Wow, that's a lot! ![]() Next we went to a hazelnut farm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 28, 2009, 6:03 am |
Next, we visited the town of Hope. There is not much to see in Hope; it was briefly a gold rush town, but now it is just a small community that thrives on the tourists that pass through. Many movies are filmed here because it is inexpensive. They seem to be particularly proud of Rambo. Can you see me?
![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 28, 2009, 6:05 am |
We went on a walk to Bridal Veil Falls.
![]() ![]() ![]() There they are! ![]() ![]() The rest of Abby's family climbed up to get a closer look, but Abby was not exactly dressed for climbing, so we sat down and ate some almonds while we waited for everyone. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Aug 28, 2009, 6:08 am |
Finally, we stopped in Harrison for dinner. Harrison is famous for its hot springs, but the lake is nice too and very scenic.
![]() ![]() We ate dinner at The Black Forest, because Abby's sister mentioned that she had never eaten at a restaurant that was specifically German. ![]() I ate a schnitzel. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Sep 9, 2009, 7:06 am |
Today I saw the Surrey campus of Abby's school. It was Abby's first time here too, so we decided to explore.
![]() The first floor is a public mall. ![]() All of the lecture halls are in a giant oval above the mall. Here I am standing across the building from the last picture, and on the fifth floor. ![]() Our tour finished, I sat down with a Booster Juice and the book Abby is reading for one of her classes, to kill some time before class started. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Sep 11, 2009, 1:57 am |
Today I saw a Canadian celebrity! Rick Mercer, who has a tv show full of funny political commentary called the Rick Mercer Report, sort of like The Daily Show, came to Abby's school to launch this year's Spread The Net Campaign. Spread The Net was founded by Mercer and Canadian politician Belinda Stronach and it raises funds to buy bednets for villages in Africa, to protect against mosquitos and prevent malaria. Each year he invites universities, colleges and high schools across the country to compete against each other for a chance to be featured on his show.
Unfortunately we were at the back of the crowd and it was hard to see. ![]() This is him close up. ![]() Here he is sticking his arm into a cage of mosquitos. ![]() They were handing out stickers. ![]() These are what they are raising mony to buy. Each one costs ten dollars. ![]() You can read more about Spread The Net here. |
AbbyB Posted Sep 20, 2009, 11:16 pm |
Today lots of new TVs arrived. Thiele, Roots Bear and Tiger Lilly came as a group, and Dottie Grace arrived as well.
![]() |
AbbyB Posted Sep 26, 2009, 7:38 am |
We decided to explore Abby's gardens.
The front gardens had lots of flowers. ![]() ![]() We met lots of these gnomes. They were all identical and they were all curiously named Smedvik. ![]() There were so many dahlias, in all different colours. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next, it was off to the backyard. We played in an apple tree... ![]() and a pear tree. ![]() I had a look to see if there were any ripe tomatos to eat. ![]() Look at all of these grapes! Can you see me? ![]() Mmm, raspberries. ![]() Lastly, everyone posed for a picture with this fellow, who guards the raspberry canes. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Oct 2, 2009, 5:51 am |
Today I went to downtown Vancouver. As soon as the rain stopped, I went sightseeing.
This is the war memorial at Victory Square. ![]() This is the infamous Gastown Steam Clock, the first of its kind in the world. As you can see, it it very popular with tourists. ![]() This is a statue of Gassy Jack, the founder of Gastown, which is the oldest part of Vancouver. He owned a saloon that burned down in the Great Fire of 1886. ![]() This is Waterfront Station, an old CPR train station. Now it is a transfer station for many different types of public transportation: trains, buses, the Skytrain and the SeaBus. ![]() This is Canada Place. One of the most well-known waterfront features of Vancouver. At the front is a hotel, at the back is an IMAX theatre (which closed down today), and in the middle, inder the sails, are large rooms used for conventions. The sails are lit up at night with multi-coloured lights. ![]() This is the new Vancouver Convention Centre, which will be the media centre during the Olympics. It is huge and practices green roof technology, the largest green roof in Canada. ![]() The green area you can see behind me is Stanley Park, the largest park in Vancouver. ![]() This is the Marine Building. It is the best example of art deco architecture on the West Coast of North America. The interior was used in the Fantastic Four movies. It was built right at the beginning of the Depression, and because the contractors went bankrupt, the interiors were not completed as they were originally meant to be until recently. ![]() Lastly, this is the Vancouver Art Gallery, the largest in Western Canada. The building itself used to be the provincial courthouse. The gallery is a popular spot for protests and large gatherings and demonstrations. On the right-hand side of the photo you can see the clock that is counting down to the 2010 Olympics. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Oct 8, 2009, 8:10 pm |
I wanted to see a little piece of Beautiful British Columbia (they even have that on their license plates) before I moved onto my next host. Part of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, which is the next city over, are farmland and there are a lot of dikes that the public is allowed to walk on. This particular area is near the Allouette River.
![]() This is the river. ![]() |
AbbyB Posted Oct 8, 2009, 11:20 pm |
The last thing I did before climbing into my envelope was to visit the local recycle depot. They recycle pretty much everything.
![]() Abby was only able to get this one photo of the other side before she was yelled at by an employee for taking photos. ![]() Now I am on my way to the United States! |
Pixiedustlady Posted Oct 25, 2009, 2:09 pm |

We also made Tandoori chicken last night and carved out our pumpkins!! Here are the photos! First we start by cooking the black beans. ![]() Next we get the Nan bread already to go in the oven. ![]() Here we are cooking the rice. ![]() Doesnt the chicken look good? This is one of Darcies favorite foods and it is a shame there are no Indian restaurants in this town! ![]() Here we are with the completed meal...yum!! ![]() After dinner we all go outside to start carving pumpkins. Here we are ready to go! ![]() First we pick out a design to carve our pumpkins with. ![]() Next we get our special pumpkin carving tools. ![]() Here is our finished pumpkin! Hi Mom!!!
Yesterday me and the other TVs went down to Wilmington. Darcie's car club was meeting up and then went to a senior rest home to deliver Christmas Presents. We were suppose to take the Porsche but it was raining!!! The Porsche does not have a top so we would of gotten soaked!! The rain really ruined the entire day but we still had a fun time. While we were at the rest home a new TV asked if he could join our gang. His name is Tuffy and he is now a official TV. We went to McDonalds for lunch. Here we are with our Happy Meal ![]() ![]() Inside the Happy Meal is a horse from the new movie *Avatar* he hears all of us outside eating and talking so he jumps out. He is very strange looking and he has six hooves! ![]() We introduce everyone to him and he asks if he can join us for lunch. We say yes and we start sharing our traveling stories with him. ![]() We finish our lunch and when we get home Darcie says that Snuttig's mom has sent some beautiful and delicious chocolates and a beautiful postcard of Gratz, Austria where Snuttig is from. Dont we all look cute with our Santa hats on? ![]() ![]() Next Snuttig lays down and starts pointing and explaining all the beautiful pictures of Gratz and tells us about each place that is pictured. We love our history lesson and we are also trying to figure out how to get the chocolate!! ![]() Snuttig sees we are trying to take all the Chocolate and he grabs a hold of the bag and pulls with all his bear strength and rescues it for Darcie to eat!! ![]() Well mom that is about it for now. We are busy wrapping presents and getting ready for Christmas to arrive!!! hope you are well!! |
Pixiedustlady Posted Dec 24, 2009, 7:32 pm |

Christmas was a lot of fun!!! we started the day with snuggling up on the couch before our host woke up. We wanted to look at all the gifts that Santa had brought! Here we are under the nice warm blanket at 5:30 am!! ![]() We go over to the fireplace and see the presents that santa has left as stocking stuffers. In America everyone hangs a stocking and it gets filled with small gifts and candy. Looks like Santa also leaves things for dogs! He left all kinds of treats and toys for the two host dogs ![]() ![]() Of course he also left us some nice candy! Here we are with a gift card to Starbucks Coffee house, a gift card to Red Robin hamburger shop, Skittles, orange flavored chocolate and Reeses peanut butter cups!! I near to a monument to soldiers-internationalists. It is constructed in honour to all Belorussians who were die in wars outside of the native land, since ancient times and up to now. For example, the Belarus division has been first thrown to Afghanistan. Thousand Belarus guys were lost, because of the Soviet heads.
I on river Dnepr quay. This main river of a city. Earlier it was navigable. But the climate has changed, and the river has shoaled. Anchor on quay of Dnepr – the only symbol today, that it was navigable. Building of the main bank in Mogilev before October revolution. Today here a museum named by Maslennikov (painter). I near to the astrologer. The monument to the astrologer stands in city centre. It is surrounded with 12 chairs symbolising 12 astrological signs. At night from a telescope the powerful beam shining. I near to a monument of Lenin. It is before a building of Regional executive committee, a principal organ of our area (the American equivalent of area - state). In 30th years when the western Belarus was under the Polish occupation, it has been decided to transfer the Belarus capital from Minsk to Mogilev, this building was constructed. But after an attack of Germany to Poland in 1939, the Soviet armies have attached the western Belarus back, and carrying over of capital has not been carried out. |
