Hi Galiya! Today I visited the city of Bamberg. The oldtown of Bamberg is very beautiful and interesting because it is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the river "Regnitz. First I show you "Altes Rathaus" (Old Town hall). The painting on the house wall is amazing! Behind me you see "Klein-Venedig" (Little Venice). There we go now. Here we are! "Little Venice" are very old buildings from the fishermen. The residenz. This is the cathetral. Beside the cathetral is the "Alte Hofhaltung" (Old Court). Bamberg was built on 7 hills like Rome. One of this hills is the "Altenburg". This was my little tour in Bamberg. I hope you like it! Kiss, Karakolak |

Hello Galiya!
Today host-mum said to me that she has a little surprise for me! We made holiday! But for 4 days :-) … Early in the morning we drove off. Where will we go??? We drove to the south of Bavaria: Allgäuer Tor Host-dad bought a „Pickerl“. It’s a sticker for the car toll in Austria. We made holiday in Austria! Wonderful! What a bend! We drove and drove. Stop Host-dad! We are almost in Italy! This is the „Brenner“. We had to pay 9 € - very expensive this street! Snow???? It’s May! The wheater was not good… But we are in good mood :-)! No holidays in Austria??? The city of Bozen is in Italy… |

Yes! We made holiday in Italy! Host-mom explained us that we don’t say „Italy“. We must say „South Tyrol“. They peopel here are political Italian but they won’t. The South Tyrolean speaks German and Italian. But they prefer German. Everywhere both languages. Do you understand? Ok. So I made holiday in South Tyrol :-) ! Here we are. In the near of Brixen. Now we are in Luesen. A very little village near Brixen. This is our hotel „Bergschloessl“. The patio. Frog fountain. What a wonderful knight’s armor! Our balcony. Look! Our pool! But now I’m so tired after this journey. I need a rest. |

Hello, today ask me host-mum if I would like to bake with her! Sure! Then she gave me a hammer. Well… Why we need a hammer??? Host-mum said we made a cake without the oven and I should trust her. First sponge cake put in a bag. And then… Beat it! It’s a lot of fun!!! We beat it until only crumb. Then we melt butter… … and give it to the crumb. Enter it into a mold and place it in the refrigerator for a few hours. Whip cream. Then mix cream chesse with raspberry jam and the cream. Some sprinkles. Back in the refrigerator for one hour. Yummi! |

Behind me is Bad Kissingen and the area is named „Saaletal“ (Saale is the name of a very little river in Bad Kissingen). It’s so refreshing! Should I spring from the 10 meters dive tower? Haha! See you the people? It’s like in an aquarium! Yummi! We stay for 3 hours. It was wonderful! Bye, Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
I arrived in Germany at Dicker Kumpel’s home. Just right in time, because we started on a holiday the next day. We will go on a River-Cruise, but first we went to Cologne – and you see the Cathedral of Cologne behind me. Next to it I saw this nice fountain. We went inside – it was great. I loved the colourful windows. Do you think, it was interesting? This Altar was beautiful. I wanted to have a photo with this golden thing, but it was not so easy to take. Back home in the hotel we had delicious cakes. Yours Karakolak |

Hello friends,
Greetings from Cologne again. Before we start our Cruise, we took a walk through Cologne. This was the place of one of the dancers in the carnival time. This fountains shows a fairy tale – the Heinzelmännchen. Look, a funny tower – and next to it you see something! Yes, it was our boat! I am so excited! I went onto the sun deck – and looked around. Then we were on our way – first we passed some modern building. Then I saw the skyline with the Cathedral. It was great! Yours Karakolak |

Hello from Amsterdam,
there is a lot of water here – and many big buildings. AND a lot of bicycles, but you cannot see it on my photos. We arrived at a big place – I think that the building behind me had a relation to the Royal Family, but I am not sure about it. Next to it I saw a nice church. This building looked like a castle, but it was a shopping centre. Then we crossed on of the famous town canals. The Netherlands are well-known for their cheese. Many people live on boats in this city. And white bridges like this one are typical for the Netherlands. Back in our cabin, we met this funny guy. Yours Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
In the afternoon we went to Zaanse Schans – a place with many wind mills. We went into one of it and learnt a lot. This mill was so beautiful! This one, too. I cannot decide which one was better. Then I saw other typical houses for this region. These wooden shoes belong to the Netherlands, too. A last view to the mills… …then I crossed this bridge and went to the bus. Our next city was Edam – well-known for its cheese. There were many beautiful houses – not as big as in Amsterdam. An alley full of nice houses. Love Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
We drove all night long and then we reached a new town – Volendam. Many ships were here. Of course we left the ship – but you can see it behind the small boats. I liked the quiet part of the old city. There were many bridges. We walked around. This house was beautiful! Later we took the ferry to Marken. On the way we saw our ship from the water – and it was very windy outside! Then we arrived in Marken. In the Past it was on an island, but now they have a connection to the mainland. We explored Marken and saw many beautiful small houses. Surely they had a church! This is the main shopping-street here. I really loved this place. Back in Volendam I wanted to have photos with these funny people! On the ship I found yummy chocolate! Yours Karakolak |

RikeH Posted Sep 14, 2015, 4:40 pm |
Hello Mum,
Funny white people are living on our ship – and some of them come and visit us- maybe they are ghosts? This time it was an elephant. Today we spent some day on the water – this was interesting! We saw some big ships! But we could see nature… …and small towns. The weather wasn’t as bad as it looked like on this photo. We arrived in Rotterdam and took a sightseeing-tour on our ship. There were high buildings and tall bridges. It was a nice day! Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
This afternoon we visited two big cities. We saw a lot from Den Haag – but out of the bus. Fortunately we stopped next to the Peace Palace. Near to it I saw this flame. We had fun on these funny benches. Then we continued our trip to Delft. Delft is well-known for its ceramic. We went into a factory. In this cupboard we saw nice dishes. I liked this picture. But the best was the funny car! Then we went into the old city. Look, it was so sunny! The church was very tall. And I liked the city hall. The place was great! Surely there were water and bridges! Sadly you cannot see on this photo, how inclined this tower was. But it was! We saw many emblems on this house. And behind me you can see something typical for this trip – a fast cyclist! Delft and Den Haag were two beautiful cities! Yours Karakolak |

Hurrah – a new country – I am in Belgium.
We drove to Gent – I really liked this church. There were beautiful building on a big place. We went to the river – the look backwards war nice. Then we were on the bridge – what a great view! We went to the river and saw the houses even better. Look – we found a wonderful fortress – in the middle of the city! There were town canals in Belgium, too. We found this monument on another place. And this building was funny – two roofs, but no walls. Yours Karakolak |

RikeH Posted Sep 22, 2015, 7:14 pm |
Many greetings from Antwerpen. I found a nice fortress here, near to our ship.
I didn’t understand this monument, but it doesn’t matter. This big building behind me was the newest museum in the city. But I don’t like museums too much – so I looked at the beautiful boats. We liked this funny guy! In the afternoon we took another walk – and went into a museum for a short time. Then we went to the Liebfrauen-Church. We saw it from far away. But before we went into it, I wanted to have a photo with this nice hotel. Then I went into the church – and I loved it! The pictures of Rubens are famous! We went outside – the city was very crowded. Surely we went to the big place with the city hall. But the other buildings were beautiful, too. Look – the fortress from the morning – it looked nice from far away, too. Guess, what kind of building was behind me? Right, the railway station of Antwerpen. It should be one of the most beautiful stations in the world. We will see. Well – it was impressive. Oh – it was late – time to go back to the ship. It is important to eat a lot on a cruise! Hello Mum,
This morning we arrived on the last stop of our trip. Nijmegen is a small place in the Netherlands – near to Germany. I watched our arrival. Of course they had beautiful houses here, too. What a nice view over the river. THere was a small chapel on the mountain. Surely we went into it. It belonged to a big fortress in the past, but there is not much of it today. There was only the chapel and this ruin left. I saw a modern house - the Stadhuis. But then we found nice old buildings. The big place was nice – and the church had a funny tower. And I liked this house. This girl is famous in the town – but I forgot her story. We went into the church – with a nice organ. Then we went back to the ship. In the cabin we spent a great afternoon with this funny guy. He read something for us – and we talked about our adventures. It was a nice cruise and I saw a lot of great places. Love Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
We went into the Zoo of Hamburg today – and look, there was a small elephant. Well, the maras were much smaller. There was a part in the Zoo that looked a little Asian. The dragon was funny – water came out of its nose. These guys had delicious food – and wonderful buildings. I never went so close to a big bear! Many years ago this was the Main Gate of the Zoo, but then the Zoo grew and now it is inside of it. This was the founder of the Zoo – and look, he had a lion! The polar bear was very tired. This guy loved to be in the water. Look, funny Pinguins. These building very nice – maybe they were from Iceland? We met some relatives of Dicker Kumpel. The lions were lazy. Time for Zebras. Back in the quiet part of the Zoo. It was a nice day! Karakolak |

The weather was nice, so I went into the city of Hamburg. Behind me you can see the Alster. I liked this view - the big white building is an expensive hotel. These are the Alsterarkaden… And when I turned right I saw the town hall. The swans are famous for the Alster. I had a closer look at the town hall. Hamburg is a beautiful town! Yours Karakolak |

Hello Mum.
It was time for a nice garden – or park. We went to the Jersbeker Park. This house belonged to the garden – but it was outside of it – strange. This was the rondel in front of the park. What a nice and beautiful entrance! These trees are called the 12 Apostles. It was nice to stand between the trees and look into the sky! It seems to me that autumn is coming. This alley was beautiful! And I liked this view, too. In the Past there was a big vase in the middle of the pond - but it was lost – and now there is this nice obelisk. This place was not so funny – two people have their graves here. This house is beautiful – they used it for cooling many years ago. On our way home we found something interesting. Look, what a wonderful painting! And this is the emblem of Sülfeld! Love Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
I went into the Autostadt Wolfsburg – and first I watched 4 short movies! This big ball was inside the entrance hall. Under it in the floor there were nice lampions. And funny white cars – with a good size for TVs. Then I went outside and had a look at Dicker Kumpel’s Dad, he drove on an exciting course with a 4-wheel-drive-car. Dou you remember, who it looked like yesterday – well the weather was less sunny today, to give a nice comment. Then it was time for cars – maybe we should buy a Porsche? This was funny – so many Porsche cars! These two towers look great – what will be inside? Cars – many cars! We took a kind of elevator – and went to the top of the tower. From there we saw the big areal of the Autostadt and the factory! This was the best place – in front of and over all the new cars! We left the tower and went to the Audi pavilion. Our last stop was a house with many different cars – old and new. These two were old. This one was a typical VW. More funny and nice cars! Love Karakolak |

It was Stoker’s 101st birthday today. RikeH had a surprise for him. Can you imagine where we sit? Right – it is a music stand. Stoker LOVEs shanty-music!!! So RikeH brought her songbook… …and he was allowed to choose one of his favourite songs. He was allowed to sit next to the accordion. Then he received his gift. A wonderful mushroom. We spend the rest of the evening sitting around the fire – talking of course. Love Karakolak |

Hello Mum,
It was time for me to continue my trip. But before I travel I wanted to see some Christmas Decoration in Hamburg. Look, this is the main station. There big balls were wonderful! But this one from Hamburg was even nicer! This is a famous person in Hamburg, called Hummel. This is the main station. Later I saw this Christmas tree. And a part of the Christmas market. Even the normal trees were decorated with lights. This store had nice lights, too. I love the Christmas lights everywhere. There were beautiful lights inside the main station. At home I had to say good-bye to my new friends. I had a great time here with Dicker Kumpel and the others. Love Karakolak |

Hi mommy,
I have arrived safe and sound here in Balingen. The first thing I noticed were some low voices... And then a ray of light came into my travelope! The first face I saw was that of a little dragonfly! Her name is Freya! And then I met Hotte Hü, a nice horse from Balingen. They gave me a very warm welcome and showed me around. Host mom gave us some caps for the next weeks, as it's going to be cooler and cooler every day...! Now we are ready for winter, St. Nicholas and Christmas! Hugs and kisses to you mommy! Hi Galiya apa,
this weekend we went to Saarbrücken for a Christmas party. The party took place in a club called SOHO and it was awesome. Hotte, Karakolak and me had a wonderful time and enjoyed some lovely glasses of champagne ;-)! I think you can see that we had some fun :-D! Love, Karakolak |

Heyhey Galiya apa!
I guess spring is about to come! When we woke up this morning we heard the birds singing and felt the warm air! The budgies also felt this spring feeling and therefore were very lively and chatty. So I went to their cage and had a chat with them, too. Then I saw this beautiful blooming orchid and I had to take a deep breath with its wonderful flavour. Of course we had to go outside into the sunshine. Nina apa gave us some sunglasses to protect our sensitive eyes. We also went up to the Christmas tree - and it looked so mistimed there! It only looks nice when it's dark outside... I can hardly believe that it's still winter!!! But very very soon we'll set of for winter-wonderland ;-)...! Yours, Karakolak |

Phiva Posted Dec 22, 2015, 5:02 pm |
Hello Galiya apa,
woooow I couldn't believe the thermometer when I saw how warm it was! Okay, the sun was somehow shining on it , but HELLO it's December! And therefore it's winter – that’s what I thought until now... Yes is was a very warm day although it's the fourth Advent today. So we decided to go for a sunny walk into the forest. Our dog friend Aris was with us and showed us around. He knows the woods like nobody else! He showed us some hidden tracks and wonderful clearings, where you could actually put a sunbed and relax with a lovely little cocktail ;-)! Then we played around and played a game of fetch. Aris is incredibly fast and agile, so it was very exhausting for a small dog like me ;-)! As the weather is so warm these days, we even found some blooming flowers and mushrooms. Aris told us that he had never seen blooming flowers or mushrooms in December before! When we passed a deers’ feeding ground we saw that it was empty. Of course it was, they can still get some fresh food! The sun was already setting when we went home, we still had some work to do ;-)! We wanted to make some Christmas decorations. We designed some tealight holders with a hot-melt gun. As you can see we did it very well and Nina apa was very happy with the result. Do you also like it? After that we had to take a little nap, we very sooo tired. So we cuddled up to Aris – he’s a wonderful heating machine ;-)! In the evening we sat together and relaxed around the Advent wreath! Love you! Yours, Karakolak |

Phiva Posted Jan 4, 2016, 1:40 pm |
Hi Galiya apa,
today is the day of decorating the Christmas tree. A tree without any trimmings and tinsel is just a boring creature, so we had to change that immediately. We took the candels first and put them onto the tree. Thus we got a bit closer to our perfect Christmas tree. But there were still some parts missing! So we looked for the Christmas tree balls – they were silver and glittering and wonderful. Aris supervised this whole action and also helped to put the balls in the right place. When we were done with our Christmas tree project, we were very proud of ourselves. Don’t you think we succeeded? Love, Karakolak |

MERRY CHRISTMAS, Galiya apa!
After a wonderful day of doing absolutely nothing but relax, and a wonderful Christmas dinner, it was Christmas Eve and therefore time for gift giving. Hotte brought a big parcel wrapped in gift wrapping paper. He said this was the present for Freya and me from our whole host family. We were sooo curious about it, we hardly couldn’t wait to open it. As we had unwrapped it, we saw a big white box – it looked very expensive… And even when we opened the box, we could not see what it truely was. But then we saw it! We were given some pendants for our necklaces! They are heart-shaped and red, so lovely! Of course we put them on right away! Hotte also said that these pendants will always remind us of him and our host family. What a lovely present! Hugs & kisses Karakolak |

Hi Galiya apa,
we’re going on holiday – yay! Ischgl here we come! Nina apa said that we should take off our pendants for this holiday, because it’s gonna be both a sportive and a party trip, and therefore we could easily lose it there…! We started very early in the morning, as we had heard that it will be a day of arrival for many people at the skiing regions. Fortunately we didn’t get into any traffic jams and arrived in Ischgl quite fit and relaxed after about three hours of driving. Having checked in at our hotel, we enjoyed the wonderful view out of the window. We had a perfect view on the party locations and the slopes of the valley run. In order to bring us into the right mood, host dad opened a nice bottle of champagne - oh wooow this tasted so good! I don’t think this was the last bottle we opened …! Now I’m very confident that this holiday will be very funny ! Love, Karakolak |

Ski heil from Austria!
What a wonderful skiing day! The sun was shining brightly and we had to put on some sunscreen, as the sun was really dangerous in the mountains. The skiing region has an altitude of 2867 metres, so it’s pretty high and the sun can cause severe sunburn up there. The slopes were perfectly groomed and we had a lot of fun to race them down . Bye, Karakolak |

Hello Galiya apa,
As I have never been to a German school before, and Freya already knows about it, she agreed to show me around at Nina apa’s school. I’m very eager for knowledge, I can’t wait to learn something more …! We started very early in the morning, but I was still very tired and almost cancelled our project – but after a nice cup of coffee I was fit enough to start the day. The first model to study was that of the DNA. It is really impressive that such little works of art are in every single cell of our body! Then she showed me how to use a microscope. It was so amazing! The next model frightened me a little – it was the skull of a dog! I have never seen such big teeth before! And now I’m wondering whether my teeth will also be like that when I’m grown-up… What do you think Galiya apa? Both of us were really impressed by the big human eye. We felt like actually being observed by somebody… Next lesson: human evolution. Freya showed me several skulls, starting from a gorilla over to an Australopithecus (a very early and extinct genus of hominins) and up to the modern human. She also showed me one of her favorite things there - a seashell. Isn’t this a wonderful picture? Afterwards I was taught about my own kind, dogs. We read an article about my species and looked at some pictures of my physique. Last but not least I was given a small introduction into how to use a Bunsen burner – but in the end I was too frightened to use it ! What a day! Yours, Karakolak |

Hi Galiya apa,
today we made a special trip to the northern Saarland. My host parents wanted to take a time-out of daily routine, and so Freya and me went with them to a wonderful hotel and spa. When we arrived, it was already dark outside. As we went into our room, we found a nice bottle of sparkling wine. Of course, we also tried it - it tasted really good! Furthermore, it was the perfect time for a wonderful dinner with lovely wine! After dinner we had a look around the hotel and found an old but very nice school desk. Freya and I took a seat and it was quite comfortable there! Just around the corner we saw a pretty decoration "Freunde sind wie Sterne"! In English it means that friends are like stars - even if you can't see them they're always there (for you)! What a lovely statement! Freya and me will keep that in mind forever! The next morning was very rainy and cold, so we needed a good breakfast for a good start into the day! And after having a perfect spa time, we went back home! Now we're revived and ready for new adventures ! Yours, Karakolak |

Hello Galiya apa!
Today it was time for Freya to leave! She wanted to go home to her mom! What a pity! I really like her and she's become a very good friend of mine! As a farewell present Nina apa had prepared something very special for her. We were allowed to create our own buttons with our own picture in it. So we had to take a good picture first! In the background you can see the church of Balingen, which is also some kind of the town's landmark ! Then we viewed the button machine, and it looked as if we could manage it on our own! So let's get started! First we printed out our picture and with the help of a pattern we cut it out the right way! It's all about team work! Then we used the machine and a lovely button came out of it! I also wanted to have one, so we did it again ! Then it was time to say goodbye! Hotte and I gave Freya some farewell goodies and also a biiig hug! I hope she'll have safe trip! Love, Karakolak |

Hi Galiya apa,
today a little parcel arrived at our home. Hotte and me were very curious about what was inside. We inspected it very closely... Then we heard some noise from the inside - it sounded like a low ee-aw... Then we opened it and looked inside! And guess what! It was Lucky Hü, Hotte's little brother! We were very happy to see him, and we became good friends immediately! We had a wonderful evening with a lot of stories to be told! Yours, Karakolak |

Hello Galiya apa,
when we looked out of the window this week, we saw a lovely winter-wonderland. So we decided to make another skiing trip into the Alps. The weather forecast was promising, so we started very early in the morning. And this promise was kept, we had a wonderful day in the mountains. We had a lot of sunshine, a lot of snow and a lot of fun. I guess you can see that in the pictures ;-)! Love. Karakolak |

Hey Galiya apa,
as the weather was so nice today again, we went for a walk in our little town. We passed the youth hostel, which is a lovely old frame house. This is very special for Germany and the most popular type of timber framing. Then we walked on and saw one of Balingen's most famous sights, the Zollernschloss. It's a little castle that was built around 1255 by the Earls of Zollern-Schalksburg. You can see its tower which is currently renovated. It's located at the banks of a little river, called Eyach. There you can find a great variety of fish and other animals. Before we went back home, we relaxed in a nice café drinking hot chocolate with an extra deal of cream ! Yours, Karakolak |

Dear Galiya apa!
Watch me, today I'm a happy, little Karakolak in big business, because I went to the office with host dad. There, I was allowed to support host dad in a lot of very important office actions. First I had to organize a lot of meetings and call a lot of persons with my new headset . Moreover I created some Excel calculations and business reports and sent it to the big bosses. Then I was sooooo tired and, after drinking a cup of coffee, I had to relax a little bit in the nice green chill out area. All in all, it was a very exciting and hard day, and now I enjoy the evening with host dad in Saarbrücken. Yours, Karakolak |

Hi Galyia apa,
this is my last update from Germany. Nina apa told me that you've found a new host for me :-)! Oh that's great, I can't wait to get to know a new country and my new host! I'm very curious about what to come...! But first, I had to say goodbye to Hotte, who has become a very good friend of mine! I hope to see him again someday...! That was the hardest part! Then I gave Lucky a hug, I don't know him for long, but I really liked him. And last but not least, I said goodbye to Nina apa and host dad! I had a wonderful time here and as a gift and memory for us I'll bring my button home ! In order not to be hungry too much, Nina apa put some sweets into my travelope - I'm not sure whether there will be some left for Yoko when I'll arrive ...! I hope for a quick and safe trip - JAPAN HERE I COME! Love, Karakolak |
